Because here at DTF, making fun of Glenn Beck makes nearly all of us feel good.

Seems Beck wasn't just "seeing things" that he'd bring to talk about on his show. He's now being accused of scouring the internet for other crazies so that he could pass it off as his own material. Now conservative bloggers and other right-wing "internet researchers" are coming out:

Yet not everyone gets credit. Robert Spencer of Jihad Watch, who has written extensively on the Middle East, received a call earlier this year from one of Beck’s television producers about a show on radical Islam. “He was doing his Sharia and caliphate show,” Spencer says, “where he did a country-by-country survey of the Islamic movements in those countries and the likelihood that those countries were going to turn into full-fledged Islamic states, with Islamic law fully-implemented. I gave [the producer] all that information. She called me like five times that day. I was on the phone with her for a total of probably three hours or more. That entire Sharia-caliphate show was me.”

Spencer says Beck used everything he recommended. The producer, meanwhile, “was effusively grateful, and said ‘Glenn is going to be sure to cite you on the show.’ But, of course, he did not.” When Spencer complained, he received an invitation to come on a later show, anchored by a guest host. His contributions to Beck’s caliphate show were never acknowledged.

Cliff Kincaid, the director of Accuracy in Media’s Center for Investigative Journalism, had a similar experience. In the fall of 2009, Beck’s producers promised him a spot on Beck’s television show to talk about his investigation of the Soros-funded Free Press. After several long conversations with Beck’s producers, however, the invitation evaporated and Beck did the show alone, using Kincaid’s research as his own.

“It’s hard to get an explanation as to why these things happen except they [Beck’s producers] told me Glenn wanted to handle the issue himself, which means he wanted to appear to be the expert,” Kincaid told TheDC. “It’s his show, and he’s got a right to do that, but it is disconcerting that those of us who work hard on these issues and gather a lot of information expect to get some credit for what we’ve done.”

Douglas Stewart, a blogger for Yahoo’s Associated Content, wrote an article recently describing how the State Department likely knew about the Egyptian uprising before it happened. He sent his story to several radio producers, including Beck’s, hoping to publicize it. While Beck did mention his name on the air, Stewart said he was shocked to hear the host read almost his entire article on the air, virtually verbatim, as if it were his own.

A short time later, Stewart found seven paragraphs of his own material pasted into a “study guide” about Egypt on GlennBeck.com. There was no indication that Stewart had written it. Stewart complained in two separate emails to Beck’s webmaster, but never received a response.

He is not a bomb thrower like Oberman ( fired) and that empty head Madow..

Beck is like a loopy teacher his style is sorta out there.

OK, but before you turn this into another thread about how all the liberal commentators ever are liars and all the conservative ones are heroes and patriots, that's not what this is about. This is about how the kinds of "researchers" you admire are trying to take down Beck. Robert Spencer is one of them, if you haven't seen. My person opinion is that Beck could have easily attributed them, but thought he was being smart by not doing so. The site you just mentioned, for instance, tells us on the first page that the "Egyptian revolution was designed to take women a step backwards." How utterly ridiculous. In a word, these guys on the blogosphere are even more "out there" than Beck, who's managed to isolate much of his mainstream audience already anyway. If what I see on the first page of "Jihadwatch" is any indication in general of the kinds of things Beck's "educators" are telling people, I understand why he wouldn't want to link them-- the real crazzies-- on his show or webpage. For the sake of his own reputation, before the fact that his show was based on the mad ravings of the circular, partisan, incessantly speculative and self-citing blogosphere became too plainly apparent.

and anyone who is following Egypt ( Ummm like Hillary Clinton said yesterday) that they are concerned now by radical elements becoming more mainstream again..

You said its "utterly ridiculous" what you see on Spencer page, slamming Spencer! you brought that up..that article about Egypt. read your post? and you  also said "Beck is scouring for CRAZIES" and Spencer is not..

I'm unsure what the firestorm really is about Beck, who knows, I like him, but I know he is a bit loopy. I dont see it a mutiny, but an oversight. Im sure Beck and Spencer are friends. Robert Spencer is way above Beck as far as total knowledge on the Jihad facing the West.

"Friends" in the sense that they're working toward the same cause, but some people genuinely don't like it when you make a habit of passing people's knowledge as your own. Spencer got repaid with a spot as a guest host on the show, but it looks like the other people who Beck "forgot" to credit weren't treated nearly as kindly.

Basically that.  But interesting revelation, although not overly surprising, and that's not even a jab at Glenn Beck.  I just suspect this type of stuff goes on ALL THE TIME in journalism and TV, and is a lot more prevalent than people think.
