I think Hayward from The Moody Blues might be getting there.

I’m always looking to give The Moodies their due. I’m not sure any of us would be here without them.

Amen to that.   :tup :tup

Thanks for the additions. I guess I was mostly thinking of rock artists which is why hadn't listed obvious ones like Willie Nelson. But hey it sounds like 8 decades is a thing so my post is already obsolete  :lol.

Not sure if it counts, but Clapton had a live album recorded and released during Lockdown.

if live albums count, the list of artists would be rather long.

Two guys that came instantly to MY mind were, of course, Brian May and Roger Taylor.  As members of Smile, they released the 45 'Earth' / 'Step On Me' in December of 1969.

Then they were in a crazy little band called Queen.  Afterwards, in the '00s it was Queen + Paul Rodgers.  They released the Queen + AL 'Live Around The World' in 2020.  Various solo and collaborations throughout the years;  most recently in 2021, Brian with Kerry Ellis, and Roger with his sixth solo studio album (which debuted at #3 in the UK).

Don’t think Tony Levin has been mentioned yet, but his first recording was for a 1968 album by jazz pianist Gap Mangione. That was also Steve Gadd’s first recording credit, and I imagine he has recorded something in every subsequent decade.

TAC had mentioned he played on Alice Cooper's 'Welcome To My Nightmare'.  So then I look up his discography, and was amazed and surprised that he played on John Lennon's last two albums.   :omg:

Yeah, Tony Levin is one of the most prolific session guys in history. He’s had an astounding career.

It just occurred to me that if you include The Soundhouse Tapes release, Iron Maiden officially qualifies for SIX decades.

Here in the UK we have the celibate God-Bothering weirdo Cliff Richard, who not only has recorded his warmed-up diarrhoea over 8 decades, he's also managed to score a UK top 5 album in each of the last 8 decades. I've said it before and I'll say it again - the UK record buying public has terrible taste in music.

Interestingly enough, Cliff was name-checked in the original "God Gave Rock and Roll to You" by Argent, but the lyrics were changed for the cover version by Kiss to remove the reference.

Cliff was my first musical love as a small child!  He did the odd ok pop song in the first half of his career.

Alice Cooper himself makes this list.  First album 1969 most recent album 2021.

That’s what I get for having tunnel vision. A bit embarrassed for not having pointed that out myself  :-[

Rod Stewart, Elton John & Neil Young have albums in every decade from the 60's onwards.
Paul Simon.  Hasn't released an album in the 2020's but has recorded one song for a compilation.

Hasn't Paul Simon already recorded stuff in the 50s with Art Garfunkel? That would make this decade his 8th  :omg:

Simon & Garfunkel started in the 60s.

Paul was born in 1941, for him to record in the 50s he would have started very very young.

This is what Wikipedia says:

Quote
Between 1957 and 1964, Simon wrote, recorded and released more than 30 songs. He occasionally reunited with Garfunkel as Tom & Jerry for some singles, including "Our Song" and "That's My Story". Most of the songs Simon recorded during that time were performed alone or with musicians other than Garfunkel. They were released on minor record labels including Amy, Big, Hunt, King, Tribute and Madison.

Okay, didn't know that, I was going only by "official" Simon & Garfunkel releases and the first one is from the mid '60s.
