Well, for 1983 nothing touches Saxon's "Power and the Glory" for me.  But from this list I'd probably go with Dio - Holy Diver.

I can see how this is a good list. They're all huge, and three of them were smash hits. They're all respectable albums. Most of them came as a real letdown for me, though. Love, Bark, and 1984 were all big steps backward for me. Even Holy Diver as a follow up to Mob, and his solo stuff was fairly hit or miss anyway. I'm probably going with Pyromania simply because, down here, at least, it was both fresh and it was pretty much a game-changer.

That is a great album, worthy of being in the company of these albums.

I’d take Alcatrazz No Parole, Y&T’s Mean Streak from 83
Perfect Strangers, Queensryche ‘S The Warning from 84

1983 and 1984 are right in the wheelhouse of what I consider to be the greatest period in hard rock/metal history -- in addition to the five albums in the poll:

Accept - Balls to the Wall
Anthrax - Fistful of Metal
Armored Saint - s/t and March of the Saint
Bon Jovi - s/t
Deep Purple - Perfect Strangers
Dio - The Last in Line
Dokken - Tooth and Nail
Fastway - s/t
Fates Warning - Night on Brocken (only really significant as the debut of a band that went on to do amazing things)
Grim Reaper - See You in Hell
Sammy Hagar - VOA
Iron Maiden - Piece of Mind and Powerslave
Judas Priest - Defenders of the Faith
KISS - Lick It Up (I don't like it, but still...)
Krokus - Headhunter
Yngwie Malmsteen - Rising Force
Mercyful Fate - Melissa and Don't Break the Oath
Metallica - Kill 'Em All and Ride the Lightning
Motley Crue - Shout at the Devil
MSG - Built to Destroy
Queensryche - s/t EP and The Warning
Raven - All for One
Ratt - s/t EP and Out of the Cellar
Saxon - Power & the Glory and Crusader
Slayer - Show No Mercy and Haunting the Chapel
Suicidal Tendencies - s/t
Triumph - Never Surrender and Thunder Seven
Twisted Sister - You Can't Stop Rock 'n' Roll and Stay Hungry
WASP - s/t
Whitesnake - Slide It In
Y&T - Mean Streak
Zebra - s/t

Etc., etc.

Edited because Thunder Seven ain't a Twisted Sister album!   :lol :lol

1981 is my favorite year of music, but 82, 83, & 84 are 8th-10th grade years and so robust with great albums.
would have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related

1983

9. Heavy Pettin'-Lettin' Loose

For anyone not familiar with this album...

They were a lot like Def Leppard. It's not quite as metal as High n Dry, but not quite as over produced heavy pop of Pyromania.
It sits right between those two albums. It's worth a listen if you were an early Def Leppard fan.  I loved it when I was a kid.
Their second album, Rock Ain't Dead blew monkey chunks though.

Hah! I thought it was awful. Hamie's singing completely changed. On Lettin Loose, he was way more powerful and direct. On RAD, he sounded so cringy.
The only song I thought was decent was Sole Survivor.

It's like he got bad advice on his vocal in what they were going for. Lettin Loose is more NWOBHM, where RAD is moving towards the Hair Metal movement of Bon Jovi.

+ 1 .....million

YCSRNR is the best one, but honestly, the first 4 albums are all much better than their “ho-hum” hits would imply.

Rising Force was obviously amazing  JSS was born and Malm beyond unreal,, it felt like Malm was getting the sound he wanted instead of fitting in on Alcatrazz and Steeler ,,, looking back quite a run of early stuff and singers

Sure. If I extended this to a Top 20, it'd land in the 16-20 range.
