Shredders of Metal
« on: October 18, 2020, 02:54:40 AM »
I dunno if this should be in the TV section, but I stumbled across season 3 of BangerTV's Shredders Of Metal on the tube today.

The first two seasons were guitar players shredding head-to-head and had Alex Skolnick among the judges.

Season 3 is drummers and they have Chris Adler on the judge panel.

Really good fun to see these local musicians hammering it out.

I've seen little bits of that.  Most of the guitarists though were pretty average from what I saw so I didn't dig through that much.  I remember seeing a few that we're pretty bad and watching Skolnick was the highlight.  He's such a cool dude though and was always a gentleman towards everyone.
Everyone else, except Wolfking is wrong.

Most of them made me sound good. They were pretty deluded about their talent.

I wonder why no decent players bothered with it?

Ah, those guys deserve more empathy than that, I think. I didn't expect to see another Petrucci there, just some metal-tainment. Good on em, I think. I just love that they've done three seasons of this. It's a great example of what YouTube can do compared to mainstream TV.

I'm also a guitarist and yet this last season was easily my favourite so far. Even if the drum sounds left something to be desired, it was still a lot easier on the ears and the level of musicianship among the drummers was way better. More of this would be alright with me and I wouldn't mind if they did a bass/vocals/keyboard editions as well.

Our debut album "Eläimys" is a trip I can whole-heartedly recommend to anyone into Pain of Salvation, Opeth, The Mars Volta, Magma etc.

Nice. I'd love to see more variations on it.

I always thought that the talent TV shows of the last couple of decades missed a huge trick by not pulling in the musical side, and just ended up really annoying, reality karaoke shows. Actually there were a couple a while back here in the UK that had some songwriting coaching and stuff but they quickly removed all of that, unfortunately.
