Opeth Survivor (Round 1: Orchid)
« on: August 31, 2016, 10:44:13 PM »
My vote will have to go for "Requiem". Everything here is great, but my bottom two on this album is Silhouette and "Requiem". "Silhouette" to me offers more, but "Requiem" is great nonetheless. Now, only if the mixing was corrected and the beginning of "The Apostle of Triumph" was properly put into "Requiem," then it'd be a toughie for me. So "Requiem".

Isn't it The Apostle in Triumph?

Anyway, going with Requiem as well.

True, fixed that. :lol

Also wut at that Forest of October vote. I get that people like different things, but how it ranks lower than Requiem astounds me.

Jesus Christ, Forest of October is easily the best track on this album :lol

I hope that In Mist She Was Standing wins this, definitely the best one on the album. Overall I think Orchid is underrated, apart from the opener, I would say that both Under the Weeping Moon, The Twilight is my Robe and Forest of October holds up really well.

How come I'm the only one voting for ITFOW, which is just a shitty rehearsal recording? ??? In fact, I don't think it should be even included, because it's just a bonus track.

I didn't even see it :lol

Yeah, that one doesn't belong on the album..

Yeah, voted Requiem without really thinking. ITFOW is just atrocious because of the sound.

I actually don't hate ITFOW. It's not my favourite on the album or anything, but I like it for what it is.

Thinking about it, maybe I confuse it with Eternal Soul Torture which I got as a bonus track on Morningrise. One of these bonus tracks sounds just like random noise because of the really cheap and bad sound of the recording.

Nah, Into the Frost of Winter does sound like shit, but it's certainly interesting to listen to, it has some pretty cool musical ideas in there if you can get past the bad production.

Maybe it's just that I was positively surprised by the song because I heard how shitty it sounded and then I listened to it and it was still better sounding than what I expected it to sound like (I expected it to sound like Ulver's Nattens Madrigal, which sounds atrocious). Anyway, I will vote for ItFoW too after Requiem is out, it's not my favourite thing ever by any means.

I tried listening to this album today to participate in the survivor, but couldn't force myself to finish it. On that note, I'll join in once we reach MAYH.

:loser:

I voted for Silhouette even though I knew what song is going out in round 1. I think opener is my favorite song here but every songs is pretty cool, no standouts, consistent album as a whole.

I'm with you. Both Orchid and Morningrise are purchases that I've regretted ever since.

I'm just going to exclude Frost.

And I thought Morningrise was a really strong album. Has some of my favorites: To Bid You Farewell and Black
Rose Immortal and Advent.

Morningrise isn't bad, but I prefer Orchid. Not really a fan of Nectar or Black Rose Immortal, so that's like half the album gone already. However, I like pretty much the entirety of Orchid (though nothing on it is as good as The Night and the Silent Water, I will admit).
