Fables has a lot more structure than Flesh Aquarium but oh well. They're certainly not for everybody!

So I listened to In A Flesh Aquarium today.
It was actually LESS weird than I thought it was going to be.

And it's also one of the greatest things ever. Of all time.
I felt its length in quite a few places.

I doubt it's gonna top Fables for me, but yeah.

fuck, ive been thinking of resurrecting this thread for forever. i still listen to parts of fables basically every day (kind of a fixture in the car). was thinking of re-posting my Exod comments from gorille's top albums list thread (think thats the one[?]) to maybe get chat back happening (and cuz no one acknowledged the overwhelming correctness that was my comment).

i still find flesh aquarium more consistent, but holy shit does fables ever reach dizzying heights with its highs.

Both albums are pretty neck and neck for me. IAFA has Desert Urbania and Feasting Fools but Fables has Words and Quantum Symphony. God damn it these guys are better than everything ever regardless.

I believe I like Fables more. Oh well they're both better than almost anything ever.

IAFA is growing extremely fast for me, fuck I might start liking it even more than Fables. It just has no bad songs...
And while I probably like the controlled madness of Fables better, the sheer insanity of IAFA is awesome too.

'like'

so true. not that Fables has any 'bad songs', but it has a few lower moments.

And while I probably like the controlled madness of Fables better, the sheer insanity of IAFA is awesome too.

:tup its been agreed by many that Fables is more coherent. but i really like the controlled madness vs sheer insanity comparison.

this thread's rejuvenation didnt last long. maybe i'll go ahead and repost my Exod comment from Gorille's top 10 albums ever thread:

the one thing i would say about in a flesh aquarium (and any newer-era unexpecT for that matter) is that Exod ALWAYS has the right keyboard part up his sleeve. think about it, out of all the variety of sounds and approaches to playing (not to mention the sheer 'amount' of parts), you'll never for one moment think, *i dont think that's the right keyboard part for this section*

there are a lot of keyboard players out there that i think very highly of, but i can't make the same claim about all of their playing.

I think I like Flesh Aquarium better.

i suspect Gorille flips back and forth every couple weeks...

I expected that. So, I saw them live once and wasn't really impressed. Tried listening to that album and couldn't manage to spin it more than a couple of times. It's weird shit and I couldn't grasp. I will try it again though, because it might just be worth it. One last thing; which do you like better, IaFA or Fables? And what are your favourite tracks from this album?

Reply from Gorille85:

I love Fables more actually. But since I had the "no 2011 albums" rule, I couldn't put it at #1. Favorite tracks from IaFA are "Psychic Jugglers" and "The Shiver". Favorites from Fables are "Unsolved Ideas of a Distorted Guest" and "Until yet a few more Deaths do us part (the last three tracks)"

They're a bit hard to get into and not for everyone but once they click... damn!! :tup

Yeah I agree about Exod. And well I liked Fables more when it was released but with time I think I have to give Flesh Aquarium the top spot.

Major bumpage.

Fables is fucking amazing. I've liked it for a while, but it really clicked just now.

I like Flesh Aquarium better, but Fables is an outstanding album in its own right.
Orion....that's the one with a bunch of power chords and boringly harsh vocals, isn't it?
LOOK AT THIS AWESOME SHIT AHHHHHH

Picked up Flesh and Fables in the last few months. I thought I would like them more than I do after hearing some samples, but so far they are just a novelty. They haven't completely clicked for me, but I am intrigued enough to keep giving them a fair shake. Very unique.

So according to an update that was just posted on the band's Facebook page today, they've broken up.

Not terribly surprising, but depressing nonetheless. :'(

In A Flesh Aquarium is still absolutely amazing and Fables is great too. Shame we might never get to hear a follow-up to it.

while this news isn't exactly unexpecTed, I still find myself wanting to cry.
saw em three times, and one of their performances 9 years remains the greatest show I've ever been to.
we even named out daughter Leilindel, a pretty good indication of what this band meant to me (couldn't  quite bring ourselves to name her twin brother Chaoth, or Syriak, etc.)

Never got to see them live.  Still remember passing on a few opportunities because they were on Sunday nights.

 Sad news
