I adore this album, most of it at least.  I think it kinda runs out of steam towards the end.  I rarely get all the way through it without pulling it out before the end.  I feel the same way about disk 2 of SDOIT, it drones on for too long at the end but is otherwise a magnificent piece.

For me, Home represents a major speed bump. The album has such great flow before AND after.
I realize it is important for the narrative, but musically it has to be the most inflated piece in their catalog. I love the ending though.

Agreed. It doesn't fit with the great run that kicks off the album, and doesn't fit with the run after it. It's the bloated chunk in the middle. It's still a very good song, but it's the most overrated part of the album by far.
Only King could mis-spell a LETTER.
Yep. I think the only party in the MP/DT situation that hasn't moved on is DTF.

Agreed on TSCO - it' been played on every freaking tour and video lately, I'm sick of it. Over the Edge seemed to use it on every single promotional video for the last two albums. Overdone, time to retire it for awhile.
No light at the end of the tunnel due to budget contraints

Plus it doesn't even work too well outside of the album's context. As a standalone song, it comes off as cheesy and preachy to me.

For me, Home is one of DT's finest moments, mainly because it took me forever to like it, but once it clicked with me, it melted my face off. One of prog's best treats.

I think it easily works the best as a standalone song, and I like how the lyrics work both ways.
In the context of the album, it's about reincarnation, and remembering Victoria specifically, but as a standalone song it works just as well as a song about coming to terms with death, and the memory of those we've lost.

I don't find the lyrics preachy at all, and I think JP generally walks the line very well of writing spiritual songs without being too specific or religious. The lyrics are perhaps a bit cheesy, but let's put it into context here. On an album about a woman being killed by a jealous lover over a brother and being reincarnated as a dude who visits a hypnotherapist and then gets killed, relatively speaking it is really not the song I'd single out. :lol

It is catchy enough, I suppose. :neverusethis:

It helped my friend come to terms with the unexpected death of his girlfriend. It can work well outside the context of the album depending on one's disposition.

Notice that I said "to me" and even if I didn't, I don't think it ever needs to pointed out on any forum that opinions and mileage may vary from person to person.
