John Petrucci contributing to a Video Game?
« on: October 07, 2014, 06:16:19 AM »
So I was just watching a random video on Youtube, when the guy mentions this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D7_OrMcBEe4&list=UUEFymXY4eFCo_AchSpxwyrg#t=310

In case the timestamp doesn't work for you, skip to 5:10.

This was something interesting that I had no idea about, but I can totally see JP doing this back in the early to mid 90s, and if you check out the intro to the game, it certainly sounds like his style.: :metal

Yep, he wrote the Prologue and Epilogue, while I believe Yusuke Takahama wrote the rest of the game music. It's more along the lines of generic 90s computer game rock, but still a pretty enjoyable soundtrack.

This was pretty common knowledge back in the day, although I haven't seen it mentioned in forever. I can't remember if I've ever actually listened to it, but it sounds pretty cool.

Yep. I think the only party in the MP/DT situation that hasn't moved on is DTF.

Huh, I never knew this... That intro tune was pretty cool though. I usually don't get into game music but that was definitely enjoyable!

Yeah, at one time this was pretty well known.  But over the years it has become less relevant.
Hef is right on all things. Except for when I disagree with him. In which case he's probably still right.

The epilogue is pretty amazing:

Sounds like something Periphery would do nowadays  :metal

EDIT: Also, so srs prologue for a pinball game.

"Petrucci is an avid Sega Saturn gamer, and has revealed in interviews that he never tours without one."

From the JP article on the DT Wiki  :D

Yeah, this was new information for me. I mean, I haven't even heard of the game, let alone that JP did two tracks for it. But that's really cool. I'm definitely gonna try and find good quality game rips of these tracks.

I guess it might've been common knowledge back then if you were a DT fan, but hell, I haven't even heard of DT back then, nor had a Sega Saturn, and plus I lived in Eastern Europe, and in Soviet Russia guitar shreds you.

I'd never heard of this either. Listening to the soundtrack now, it's pretty rockin' for a pinball game soundtrack. Some tracks even have (really bad) vocals.

I heard him play it live at a clinic in 96/97.  I thought it was fun but nothing more.

Didn't they say the Raw Dog was the first song they wrote for a video game?

As a whole band, that would still be true. JP may have forgotten about it anyway. I doubt he's as obsessive as we are!

I think JR should totally write video game music. And movie scores. And I mean real movies, not Sister Sensei. :lol

Not to mention that Raw Dog was just released on a CD promoting the game. None of those songs are actually in the game at all.
