Another case in Italy.

I know it might be hard to believe, especially for those who know these girls, but they said in an interview some years ago that they like Dream Theater. I'm talking about Paola e Chiara, an italian pop music female duo. I guess they're little known outside our borders, but in Italy they're quite famous. Here's a pic and a video:

Davide Moro, captain of Empoli Football Club, a team which plays in Serie B (second division) but also played some seasons in Serie A (our major league) is a really big DT fan. He also happens to be a really good singer, and of course he sings in a DT cover band! (here is their version of A Change of Seasons https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aokYRChVBYc)  He uses to show his love for the guys wearing in every game his own custom captain armband!

Mikael Akerfeldt from Opeth said he's a big fan of them on that series of interviews with him and MP.
I always kind of doubt if he is or if he was just saying that for the interview.
That's the feeling I get too...
I think he is a fan, although he hasn't followed them actively in the recent years. This is what he said in 2003 (I know it's an old post, but at least it proves that he HAS been a DT fan): https://www.ultimatemetal.com/forum/opeth-archived/64552-mike-portnoy-likes-opeth-2.html#post1091898

However, no I don't dislike Dream Theater. But I'm not so fanatic about them as I used to be.

I have all their albums and "Awake" and "Falling into infinity" + "Scenes" are all great albums. 2nd Cd too, but the cheese factor on that album is incredibly high with all the cheesy saxophone "Beach" sounding solos...still a good album.
The first I don't like so much because of the singer + the latest I thought was kinda un-happening. I've seen them live on every tour since "Awake" and that gig I can say was marvellous! Also on the "Scenes" tour they did a massive show in Stockholm. But last time I saw them they seemed tired and "old" almost. Especially in comparison with Pain of salvation which did a great gig. (I like them MUCH better live than on record)
I even left before the DT show had ended.

No, I am not as big a fan as I used to be but I'd guess I'm still a "fan", and I love John's guitar playing!
I'd like to see DT elaborate more with the sounds the got on "Falling"...I like the more mellow "Peruvian skies" type of songs.
Still, he did do this back in 2009. It may have been just a favor he did for MP, but I don't think he would have done it if he hadn't liked the music.

heh. Good gig that. My mother was really metalling out to that song.
This is as exciting as superluminal neutrinos. The sexy thing is that this actually exists :D

When I read the thread title, I thought you meant fans like this guy.

There is a prominent chemistry professor who has been spotted with Dream Theater at multiple cities on the East Coast. :neverusethis:

And this guy

Well, that's not really a surprise. He used the opening chords of ACOS to close his acoustic guitar set, opening for Dream Theater  :lol

yea he did. Fantastic opener. Too bad I missed most of his set because I won't up in the lobby of the theater chatting with Charlie Dominici.
I just don't understand what they were trying to achieve with any part of the song, either individually or as a whole. You know what? It's the Platypus of Dream Theater songs. That bill doesn't go with that tail, or that strange little furry body, or those webbed feet, and oh god why does it have venomous spurs!? And then you find out it lays eggs too. The difference is that the Platypus is somehow functional despite being a crazy mishmash or leftover animal pieces
