The Pancaker and his mysterious 10,036 posts
« on: December 19, 2012, 05:39:56 AM »
So, who is this cat anyway? He's been inactive from here for years and, despite my being in this community since 2006, I have virtually no recollection of him or what his posting style was like. Anyone recall why he stopped posting or what he was like? It just seems weird for someone who left here with probably one of the 10 highest postcounts at the time of his departure to be so relatively cloaked in mystery since I've also had other members here ask me about him during random chats.

He only made 36 posts at dtf.org. He had 10k posts added as a joke by bosk, iirc. Then he disappeared very soon after.

Yep. I think the only party in the MP/DT situation that hasn't moved on is DTF.

lol, I was going to say: for someone who's never been around in years, he must have been prolific at the time to be on par with someone who's been here six years.

:lol And ya know, I had pondered almost that exact scenario when I was making the OP but was afraid to mention it since I figured bosk or someone else may just lie and run with it to try to test my gullibility. I saw someone with the same handle at 5/8. I wonder if he's the same dude

lol, I was going to say: for someone who's never been around in years, he must have been prolific at the time to be on par with someone who's been here six years.

And the disturbing thing is that I've been on hiatus from here for almost 2 years during lapses in my access to regular internet usage and only had a postcount around 1000 as of the beginning of 2010 so if I posted like the way I have during the last year and the also the first half of 2010 for all 6 years, I'd probably be around 40,000 posts. That's borderline depressing.

He's Chilean and had a cool avatar of a hand.  Was friendly.  But yeah, fell off the map, as many do.

He must have done something memorable to provoke bosk's post joke  :lol

You just posted 10 times a day for two years and a half. Rather then being depressing, that speaks highly of your affection towards this community.

Very true. Strangely enough, it wasn't until I finally started posting pics of myself (about a year ago) that I began to actually be noticed around here. Prior to that, I was definitely very forgettable.

For a short time we had some kind of waffle meme -- waffle on top of a bunny and the like -- so I believe he was involved in that, being in the pancake camp and all.

That picture alone should have won at least three DTF awards. Wasn't there a "Best User Photo Of All Times"?  ::)

I just don't understand what they were trying to achieve with any part of the song, either individually or as a whole. You know what? It's the Platypus of Dream Theater songs. That bill doesn't go with that tail, or that strange little furry body, or those webbed feet, and oh god why does it have venomous spurs!? And then you find out it lays eggs too. The difference is that the Platypus is somehow functional despite being a crazy mishmash or leftover animal pieces

Truth be told, if I had to list as many DTFers as I could off the top of my head I probably wouldn't think of you. But every time I see your name, I know it's someone who's been around here for years and that it ain't someone new. I suggest throwing posting quality to the wayside and posting a lot more like I did. Just comment on anything that catches your attention. Things like: when someone mentions anything you really like, someone is bummed out and you can cheer 'em up with some consoling words, etc.
