Alice Cooper Guitarist Orianthi

Caught Alice last night. I've seen Alice about 6 times now. Awesome show as usual. The thing that stood out the most was the play of Orianthi Panagaris. This girl can play her ass off. She was amazing. She did a solo that was like if Gilmour had a baby with Vai, and that baby had a baby with Jimi Hendrix. Simply amazing. Too bad she's been relegated to primarily session work and being a hired hand. This girl has amazing talent. Probably the best female guitarist out there. You can tell she's very heavily influenced by Carlos Santana, but theres a ton of Hendrix creativity and energy in her play.

EDIT: I'll add this also. I HATE the fact that I even mentioned she's a girl guitarist. She's a top guitarist period. Not woman guitarist. I'd say she's in the top 20 current and active guitarists, period.

I know! First got to know about her from the Michael Jackson documentary. She was supposed to play on that, but even NOT playing that got her into worldwide attention. This girl can seriously rip that guitar. Awesome, makes me want to go practise more :)

I saw Alice on a late night talk show recently and you are right.  That girl has skills.

It's really weird. She is clearly a very good player, but something about her play looks awkward. Maybe it's because her hands are small compared to the rest of the guitar.

Her skill is totally wasted on power chords, and then used as a gimmick in the token guitar solo. :(

I saw her live with Alice (and Alice's son's band) at his Annual Christmas pudding concert the other night. I was less than 3 feet away from her and everyone else when they were on the runway. She's a really great guitar player. I had already known of her previously from a song of hers on the radio. Good stuff.

Also caught Rob Halford there with a backup band (not the rest of Judas Priest), but that's not really relevant.

Orianthi rocks.  If you can get her first CD Violet Journey go ahead, but it's tough to find, iTunes only has Believe... which is also my favourite song of hers.  She's amazing.
