My motivation for starting that thread the other day about what inactive bands we all listen to the most was when I thought about how much more I listen to bands that are active, and how new releases often spark listening phases and whatnot.

To explain, in the past few months, I had barely listened to any Radiohead, but with that new song out this morning, I listened to them a lot today.  And will likely delve back into a Radiohead listening phase again.  Same thing happened recently with Neal Morse and Death Cab, both of whom released new albums in the past month plus.

On the flip side, those inactive bands never have new stuff come out anymore, so while I have moods where I want to listen to them, they don't have those new releases to spark listening to the old stuff, which is why they generally get listened to less than active bands.

Make sense?  Anyone else experience similar things?

Agree.  Bands that are active seem to spark my interest more than inactive bands.  I mean, live performances, new albums, regular interviews, it keeps your interest up in these bands.  I find bands that split up or go on hiatus etc. tend to lose my interest more.  There's something satisfying knowing one of your fav bands are touring and in the studio working on new material.  Also, with fresh material coming from them makes it more interesting.  If a band splits up after 3 or 4 albums, there's only so much of those that you can take without losing interest IMO.
Everyone else, except Wolfking is wrong.

To be honest there are so many classic bands that i haven't listened to as much as i should (The Beatles, Yes, ELP etc) that i constantly find some interesting music to discover.
On the other hand, i really like to search for new and unknown bands, because i believe the passion and creativity is really high on some new albums.
So i guess it's a mixed bag for me, it keeps me happy when i discover new exciting music, being old or new doesn't really count.

(Given that English is not my first language, please excuse any faults in my expressions :))
