@Bosk: I completely agree with you. I'm just surprised you're so hostile towards the idea. Like I said, for some reason I thought you were a practicing Christian. But maybe I had you confused with Hef.
He is a practicing Christian, as am I.  But although our specific beliefs differe somewhat, I am glad that neither one of believes in the rapture.

Also, this idea is pure genius.
Hef is right on all things. Except for when I disagree with him. In which case he's probably still right.

Capitalism works off of demand, not need. Apparently there is lots of demand for people to get screwed over!

No one demands things until they are first offered it.

I'm going to couple my pet rapture insurance policy with volcano insurance.

In reference to the upcoming rapture:

Quote
An atheist and entrepreneur from North Hampshire, Bart Centre, is enjoying a boost in business for Eternal Earth-bound Pets, which he set up to look after the pets of those who believe they will be raptured.

He has more than 250 clients who are paying up to $135 (£83) to have their pets picked up and cared for after the rapture.

They would be disappointed twice, he told the Wall Street Journal. "Once because they weren't raptured and again because I don't do refunds."

For what? That the rapture didn't happen?

No, that he's not giving out refunds. I bet someone will get pissed off enough to sue him. We do live in America, after all.

It's a form of insurance.  Insurance is paid coverage in the event something happens.  If nothing happens, you don't get a refund, because you had paid coverage.  That's the way that insurance works.

Yes, but that doesn't prevent someone from suing him anyway.  It will prevent them from winning, but it won't prevent them from suing him, which will be expensive for him.  Oh, wait--as an insurance guy, I'm sure he has an adequate E&O policy in place in the event he should ever be sued for anything.  With a nice, big deductible.  That isn't refundable.

I don't think he will be sued. Image the public embarrassment it could cause for the one suing if the media picked up on it.

I'm willing to bet that the average American would gladly take a large settlement for the price of being publicly embarrassed for a short while.
