Dimmu Borgir
« on: February 28, 2011, 03:22:06 AM »
Whats everyone's thoughts on this band? Saw them at Soundwave and they blew me away!

I went out and bought their new album the next morning "Abrahadabra" and i must say it is EPIC!!!

Think, Ramstein meets Devin Townsend Meets Symphony X and you get the idea!

If you havent yet, check them out they are unreal!!

I'll only be able to come to soundwave late, so I will miss them when they come to Perth :(

i'm not very into Abrahadabra, though it definitely has good songs on it (looking at you, song-named-after-the-band).

i jumped on board the Dimmu train around when Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia came out. love that record, Death Cult Armageddon, Spiritual Black Dimensions, Stormblast MMV (heresy!), and Godless Savage Garden, but my favourite is Enthrone Darkness Triumphant. they were really at a height in their songwriting then, and it's been on and off each record since.

Yep, definitely love this band!  Can't say which one is my favorite, but Abrahadabra is pretty far up there.  Death Cult Armageddon is also really awesome.  I just really love the symphonic elements of their sound, especially when they use a real orchestra.  It just has the soundtrack-metal feel.

Does anybody else feel like Dimmu Borgir could do an AMAZING cover of "The Imperial March" from Star Wars?  haha

Avenged Sevenfold got me into metal, SikTh got me into technical metal, and Dimmu Borgir got me into extreme metal. One day I just decided to go into HMV and buy the record with the most extreme looking cover I could find in the hope of finding a new genre I enjoyed. It was Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia, and about 5 seconds into Blessings Upon the Throne of Tyranny I had a new love. That album is fantastic from start to finish, definately my favourite, although Death Cult Armageddon is very close. I also love the really old albums, they have a great atmosphere, although I'm not too keen on their newest releases.

Enthrone Darkness Triumphant will always be their best, if you ask me. God damn what an album.
