I SHIT YOU NOT.
It's going to be epic.
Christopher Lee — known for playing Saruman the White in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, Count Dooku in Star Wars III: Revenge of the Sith, and lots of crap Max Von Sydow turned down – has recorded a metal concept album about Charlemagne with Italian power-metal band “Rhapsody”. Read that sentence as many times as you need to. Yep. That’s what that says. Now you might be mentally-prepared to check out the widget below containing the music MetalSucks describes as “just ridiculous. [...] makes me wonder if this could truly be the same man who once so lit up in the screen in Police Academy: Mission to Moscow.”
Tread cautiously, MetalSucks. He shed the blood of the Saxon men. Also, he’s 87. I’m pretty sure you get one free kill if you make it to 87. That’s why I’m sleeping in a hyperbaric chamber so I can live to be 174, hop into a time machine (they’ll have them by then shut up), and take out both Seltzer and Friedberg before they can make any movies.
There's a player at the bottom, be sure to listen!

Christopher Lee is my hero :hefdaddy

This is no surprise to me at all, as I know he has worked with Rhapsody in the past.

Sounds horrible.
I'm totally going to buy it.

This might just be your unfailing sarcasm at work, but yes. And so am I :P
If only for:
I SHED BLOOD OF SAXON MEN, I SHED THE BLOOD OF THE SAXON MAN, I SHED THE BLOOD OF THE SAXON MAN, I SHED THE SAXON MAN!!!

I wanna play this band while I'm on a date just to see her reaction.

ANGELS ARE CALLING
FROM DIVINE LOST CRYSTAL REALMS
RIDING FROM HEAVEN
FOR THE MAGIC OF THE WIZARD'S DREAM
Honestly I can't wait to hear this. If it is at all influenced by Rhapsody than it will be epic. The cheesy factor does not bother me when listening to power metal. The samples sound cool and I am glad that Christopher Lee is making music that stays true to his taste.

I love this picture.
I'll probably listen to the album just to hear what it sounds like, but honestly I doubt I'll lay out actual cash for it.

Move over Pure Reason Revolution
New album from PRR in 2010? Source?
Jamie Willcox and Chloe Alper are doing regular updates on Twitter. "I'm really excited about the year ahead of me. New album and touring are high on the agenda!!," etc. etc. They've been doing a fair bit of recording lately.
Seems to be ruining Jamie's sleep a bit, actually, so I imagine it's pretty damn intense in the world of PRR right now!
"I'm just listening to Track 1 from the new album...Its nearly finished! I cant wait till this records done so I can play it live! Exciting!"
"Another sleepless night with a 4-bar loop running around and AROUND my head!! Grrrrrr...."
"More and more vocal harmonies...you can never have too many....right?!?!?"
"I have a billion different vocal harmony ideas surging through my brain right now... Thus making sleep near on impossible...Grrrrr..."
Chloe's a lot more cynical, but there's a lot of cool noises being made about a new PRR if you keep an eye on 'em.

So, what's the scoop? Does Christopher Lee just have bad taste, or is he too old to know that they suck? (you know, one of those old people who think that once you package something into a contemporary medium like rap or metal, everybody will immediately like it)

He just loves power metal, it is as simple as that. He has done works with Manowar and Rhapsody so it's not like he is unfamiliarity with what he is making. I know it is hard to believe but there are people who do like this kind of music.
-
The samples were so bad they managed to become funny in the "ill listen to a song once and laugh at it" kinda way.

Nope, just you.
-
Is it intentional that the sounds in those songs sound like from a $50 Casio keyboard?
rumborak
-
Most likely. I think Rhapsody should have had ample experience with keyboard voices by now.

What does rhapsody have to do with this?

Probably that bit.
Also, I think it's worth mentioning that Saruman would be an awesome name for a power metal band.

Well, it's obviously going to suck, but good on the old guy. Seems like one of those awesome things he'd love to do is finally getting taken off the bucket list.

I seriously lost it when I saw the guy playing guitar on a sword.

Honestly.... not my first reaction.

This album is the greatest example of :metalol: ever.

Wow, I heard Rhapsody's "Sacred Power of Raging Winds" back in 2004, and I thought the voice in the beginning sounded like Saruman. That's pretty sweet!
-
Ok, sorry to bump this thread. I just got this cd and am listening to it. It's horrible. Just horrible. It's seriously book on tape. It's at least 80% talking, a little HORRIBLE singing and very little if any metal so far. I got it cause it's Chris Lee, and even though he is cool on it, the writing is just beyond bad. This could be one of the worst CD's I have ever heard that wasn't intentionally bad and that didn't involve a bunch of teenagers.
-
Yeah its pretty damn awful. Hilarious, but awful.
-

I seriously think the creation of this idea went something like this.
"Hey man, christopher lee wants to make a cd about charlemange."
"No way, I did a report on him back in high school. I'll just dig it up and put some lame music behind it and we're done"
"Anything I can do?"
"Yea, find the worst singers ever to play the other roles"
"on it"
-
You spent money on that? Was it at least someone elses money?
-

I'll gladly spend money for Sir Christopher Lee. I bought it for the novelty value.

I love my cheesy power metal, what else were you expecting?
-

I was expecting cheesy power metal. I did not get cheesy power metal. I got a book on tape with some music behind it and some bad singing.

I laughed so fucking hard at this.
Also... Cheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeese

I watched the promo video... my god that's horrible. 87 year old Lee brandishing a sword = :rollin

You must be confused

I dunno, I know there are LOTS of other bad cd's, but I haven't heard them. This one is just horrible.
-
I think I am even more intrigued now that I hear that it is a book on tape.
Something different from the usual Christoper Lee / Rhapsody style to break it up so that the next time they work on an over-the-top album about shedding the blood of the saxons it will seem even better.
That, and I love Charlemagne and Christopher Lee.
Also, I just read that this album features Rhapsody, Manowar, and a 100-piece orchestra. What?
