Yes, finally THAT day has come!
I don't question whether the $12 I donated to Toby Driver for this was well spent. I absolutely LOVE motW and having this come out finally this year just adds to how great a year 2009 is/will be..even just for nostaglia w Soundscape, Transatlantic, this and hopefully Kevin Gilbert.
oh man, tomorrow I will check get to check this out along with the debut EP from Water & Bodies (and I'm seeing Protest the Hero for the 1st time!). Friday May 15th is going to be a highly memorable one for me and my music events of 2009!

It is my great pleasure to introduce:
maudlin of the Well - Part The Second (2009)
1. An Excerpt From 6,000,000,000,000 Miles Before the First, or, The Revisitation of the Blue Ghost (1999-2009)
2. Another Excerpt: Keep Light Near You, Even When Dying (1997-2009)
3. Rose Quartz Turning to Glass (1997-2009)
4. Clover Garland Island (2007-2009)
5. Laboratories of the Invisible World (Rollerskating the Cosmic Palmistric Postborder) (2005-2009)
----
It's done. Please visit https://www.maudlinofthewell.net to listen and to download (more on that below).
It has been a truly extraordinary experience getting to make this record. It is absolutely humbling that so many people felt this strongly about maudlin of the Well! We would like to thank all of you for your support and generosity. Before I get to rambling, some things:
There are three versions, mp3, WAV, and FLAC. FLAC is the highest quality, followed by WAV, followed by mp3. The mp3s sound great, however, so don't be shy or think you're getting something second-rate grabbing them. Each format is contained in a ZIP archive with the album artwork and lyrics in jpg format.
We decided last minute not to do CD ISOs, and in their place have simply included a zip archive of 16b/44.1kHz .wav files.
Each archive has an associated .torrent file. BitTorrent will be the only method (at least for now) to get the FLAC and WAV versions. The mp3 archive is available for direct download from the website.
If any of this technical stuff confuses you or you're not sure which version to get, please just download the mp3s direct from the site, I promise they sound fantastic.
WE NEED SEEDERS! If you are bittorrent capable, please grab the torrents and leave them up when you are finished downloading! The first few hours are certain to be rocky for torrenting, but if enough people get their hands on it and get it seeding, it will work out.
So that's it. Please download, listen, enjoy. And thank you all once again.

I'm listening to it right now. Good stuff. Not as heavy as some of their stuff so far, but pretty good.
I'm amazed that they don't seem to have many fans on a progressive metal forum that's generally open to this kind of music. =/
-
Just downloaded this and I'm liking what I hear. Really awesome stuff. I'm going to have to look into the rest of their discography now.
-
Downloading it now. I've never listened to them but I enjoy Kayo Dot, which I'm assuming is very similar.
-
Just saw on joebob's facebook. :metal :metal :metal :metal

"In a blog post on the bands Myspace page on July 27th of 2008, Driver revealed that a fan donated enough money to record a new album. Recording started on February 10th of 2009, and Toby told a fan over his Facebook page that the album was finished a month later. IT HAS BEEN RELEASED AND RAWKS FACE"
:lol

Damn you, faemir, I was just about to post that, too!
Well, if Wikipedia has that strong of an opinion, I may as well download this. . .

some similarities, but A LOT of differences. Why I love this project, and KD thus far for me (I've heard 2 albums) has about 20% good music and 80% boring filler. KD isn't Metal and the melodies, when they do come, don't stand out nearly as well as motW.
btw, here's the cover art

Listening to the album now. My first experience with motW, and I'm quite impressed. I might have to check out their older works (if I can find them).

4 stars.

it is just rym, and it's pretty early in the year, relatively given what else is yet to leak, but to see it #1 I'm actually really happy.
I wonder if some people have checked it and the other motW albums out just as a result of that, having never heard-of them before.

That's what I did.

Get ready for the hipsters to vote it down.

I'm so out of the loop when it comes to all of these great-sounding experimental prog slash post rock slash post metal bands. It's an area I'd like to get into, but there's so much of it out there, it's far too daunting at the moment.
Not to mention that it isn't the easiest music to get hold of, when you're not the sort of person who just carelessly downloads absolutely everything.
-
Never heard of them before. Downloading now, I'll try to listen to it today.

It is a massive genre, but there are some fantastic bands out there. And even if you are someone who torrents, it's incredibly difficult to find a lot of this stuff. I've never seen a torrent for a single motW album (besides this one), and only a torrent for 1/3 Kayo Dot albums. And those are some of the larger bands in the genre.
-
the motW catalog is out there..maybe not by Bit Torrent, but it's not too hard to track them down.
-
I've found many torrents. Maybe it's because I'm that awesome.
Also, torrents are unnecessary for this album, since the album is perfectly fine and downloadable via the band website. Also feels cleaner that way, lol.

Well they only distributed one version on the website, the rest was by torrent, including the FLAC version.

Well, yeah, in this case, clearly.

Probably not the greatest reason to necro, but I am just in love with album recently. And even this whole band in general. Been listening to Part, Bath and Body Map over the last few days. Just really great music. I'd urge anyone thinking of checking out this band to download this album (legally from the band, for free) by clicking https://maudlinofthewell.net/packages/motw-pts-mp3.torrent assuming you have a torrent client (if you don't uTorrent is very small and simple to get) :)
-
Wow this is really kewl. I'd like to hear their earlier stuff.
-
I need to give this another good listen or two actually. It's interesting seeing how different it is to the old stuff.

This. I actually just heard Part the Second last week and I thought it was fantastic.
-
Downloaded this last night and listened to it most of today. Great stuff.
-
Downloading now. :tup
-
This album is goldy. The first track is pant-wettingly good.
-
The torrent file appears to toast...I woulda seeded for a bit too.
oh well.
-
Uh, just download it directly from their site. All of the versions are available for direct download now.
-
I did.
Not my cup of tea.

Right, always wondered. Googled it a few times. Never found out.
What exactly is up with the capitalisation of this band's name?

They probably just wanted to be irritating and different.

Oh man, they didn't capitalize the first letter in their name, I'M SO IRRITATED AHHH.
-
:lol
I think that they just did that so that it would look cooler on the cover art.

Oh right, so it's not insistent? And it's perfectly valid to call 'em Maudlin of the Well?
That's nice. I can't stand it when bands try to be artistic with grammar - only reason I asked. It comes across as very contrived and pretentious. See also, Portugal. The Man, etc. etc. It's a dumb name that seems like a disingenuous attempt to try and make them look all clever - instead, I think they look like dicks.
"Because it looks good in the font," on the other hand, is a reason I can happily get on board with!

Yep, me too. I'm glad you agree and weren't being sarcastic.

Clover Garland Island sounds like Joe Satriani
-
Just had to say that I'm really lovin' this album right now, esoecially the first track.
-
