EDIT BY BOSK1: As of 3/12/10, there was a glitch that caused most of you to lose your membergroup status. If you had primary or secondary membergroups (including Alumni status for those who have donated), please re-post them in this thread so we can manually fix them. Sorry for the confusion. :(
Back by popular demand! Users may have noticed that in the dark theme the old stars display as bars (except for the green Alumni ones for some reason, which still display as stars). This may be rectified at some point, but at the moment it does the same thing so it's not really a priority. Here is the original first post (for those who aren't aware of what all this means):
Users who wish to have their membergroup/title reflect the time frame of their overall involvement in the Dream Theater forums of the past and present may post here to let us know what title you feel you should have.
Options below were suggested by Hyperplex originally, as you can see. Many thanks, Hyperplex! (Included below is my explanation for how stars will most likely be assigned).
EZBoard Elder - Requirement: registered and posted on the original DT EZBoard between June 2000 and July 2002
DT.net Veteran - Req: first registered and posted during the first years of the DT.net vBulletin board, July 2002 through ~2004 (give or take a few, if users' memory serves correct)
DT.net Member - Req: first registered and posted on DT.net in 2005 or later
DTF.com Member - first registered and posted during the existence of DTF.com, after the shutdown of DT.net
DTF.org Member - first joined and participated in the community at the current site, after the Board Split
Alright, because stars are currently being used for other membergroups, here's how I've added the above ones and incorporated the star system:
EZBoard Elder - 5 stars
DT.net Veteran - 4 stars
DT.net Member - 3 stars
DTF.com Member - 2 stars
DTF.org Member - 1 star
Alumni members who already have green username links and special Alumni status should post here only if they wish to have their group switched to one of the above ones. You will unfortunately no longer be green in color if you choose to switch.
So, go ahead and start posting here to let us know which group you belong in, if you want to be switched.
This could take awhile, please be patient -

ok you're all caught up. If you're an alumni though, your green stars and alumni usergroup will take precedence, so your general look doesn't change.

I joined two years ago, no more than 3 weeks after the split. I was a member pre-split (as in a week before the split haha) but never posted so idk what that makes me.

Well, the new dtf.org had the first post made on it by admin on May 18 at 1:45am, so I backed it up a day. I know things weren't down more than about 24 hours because I didnt' spend longer than that at the interim forum of (I think it was) Thal's.

Once upon a time, the two forums lived in harmony. But one day they decided to take over Cybertron, and we were cast out, and now live in hiding on one of Cybertron's moons gathering Energons ready to take it back.

I'll be in the deepest part of the dungeon, you have to collect three pieces of shiny stones because that would make the rescue more romantic, then collect all the chickens for the village people and cut all their grass and break all of the pots, and after that make sure you lose the stone somehow, and go get me seven pieces of something equally pretty, then come get me. I've also sent something to aid you that will constantly point out things so obvious you must be impaired to not have seen them without her, she will also proceed to steadily annoying you more and more, with increasing urgency throughout your quest.
Don't forget to do all the extra side-quests on the way, but don't forget that you're in a hurry.

Don't normally pop over to general discussion so ive just noticed this thread.
I was a member on DT.net around 2004 (think thats 4 bars) but after that got shut down, I didnt join any of the other forums until this one came about and even then I think it was late last year I joined.
Can I still get the bars eventhough I havent gone through all the forums and changed my username since the DT.net days?

I don't remember exactly when I registered, but it must have been around 2000 or so, because the board was all blacks and browns. It didn't even occur to me that it was the "Scenes from a Memory color theme" until Six Degrees came out and all the colors on the board changed.
I'm sure that makes me an Elder, which seems oddly appropriate.

I was registered and regularly posted as a forum member at www.dreamtheater.net back in '02/'03 when the theme was 6 Degrees of Inner Turbulence. I can see every member status save for the VIP's. I mainly use chrome and safari (on the ipad).

It's a theme thing. In SMF Core you yourself display as ****.

Switching to one of the new themes, Wasteland has 4 proper green stars, and Blob has 3 yellow squares. I wanna get my stars and have them be green clovers.
The one thing that still doesn't pan out is that in my usual SMF Core, plenty of other people with 4 stars have them display properly. In one thread, Yorost had the 4 proper yellow stars, and Cool Chris two posts above him had 4 asterisks. There's something about different about the way those two are configured [insert crude joke here].

Yorost is a DT.net veteran (Round since 02~04) and has such has 4 yellow stars ( yellow squares in the default theme ). I donated and as such was included in the alumni group (4 green proper stars and green name). :tup

Scorp, the bars are actually based on your history in the DT/DTF community and not on your join date. The stars are for the peeps who donate to help keep DTF running.
Someone PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong on this.

It's not quite that simple, this is the fifth board the community has been on. DT.net 1, DT.net 2, -Itchy explosion-, Temp Board where we decided to continue, DTF.com, -civil war-, DTF.org. You registered date only represents when you registered for DTF.org, not the community.

ok, this is interesting. I was looking for something else in some old emails, and I ran across one with the subject "Action Required to Activate Membership for dreamtheater.net!". It is dated October 30, 2003, or right before Train of Thought was released.
I always had a vague recollection of joining and posting a bit (but mostly lurking) on an old Dream Theater forum. Turns out it was dt.net! The very pants I was about to return!
So, this is kind of odd since I still consider myself such a noob here, but do I get four bars as a DT.net Vet?

I'm not sure what this all means - but I was actually a member of the original forums at dt.net.
I remember having a convo back around 1999/2000 about whether Queen were prog or not (things don't change that much!) in a thread, and mark bredius commented.
I also remember using that chat function a couple of times and talking about Eric Johnson with some guy.

I started browsing occasionally in '99 when I discovered DT, but don't think I posted, not even sure I signed up at that point. I had definitely signed up and was posting in January of 2002 in the lead-up to SDOIT.
It was still a periodic thing though at that time. It ebbed and flowed, and I don't think it was near-daily until sometime in '06. After the split here in '07 I was initially at both places, but my growing disillusionment with DT eventually led to me spending more time at the other forum and elsewhere. Actually, I think back in '04-'05 I was spending more time at the Rudess forum than here. I finally decided to come back here August last year or so.
So I guess January of '02 is my safest join date. Wow, that makes it over 20 years. Time flies.
