My old singer and I started a cover of Summer Nights last year and kinda stalled on it. I got the lead out of my ass and finished it up today. Hope you guys dig it.

Friggin' nailed my favorite part: the flood of guitars right after the intro. Ed always made it sound like an avalanche of guitars and you got it. Usually I hate the vocals on these kinds of things, but that guy kind of got it. There's a little pitchiness on the chorus, but for what this is, I think it's pretty damn cool.

Thanks, it was a lot of fun putting this together when I live in PA and he lives in OH!
Since EVH used a Steinberger, I had to play the intro part in standard, then pitch shift it up after the fact. Plus the drums are all programmed in EZ Drummer 3. I took a lot of listens to the song and went measure by measure hand programming the part. The solo was a serious pain in the ass, honestly. I'm not super good at recording and mixing and such yet, but like you said, for what it is, I'm pretty pleased with it.

That's pretty cool though.

Glad you guys dig it. I keep tinkering around and leaning new recording stuff all the time. I enjoy it.

I do dig it; my "it is what it is" was not a criticism at all; I just wanted to make clear that I understood this wasn't done at Abbey Road with the full resources of the BBC behind you. :)

Haha, no, I understood. Thanks for clarifying. This was done on a laptop with a Line 6 interface and a couple small monitoring speakers. The guitar tone was a custom made one I found on Line 6's Customtone site. Someone made an unbelievable OU812 tone and it was perfect for this.

Nice job! Hangar’s best song in my opinion. I do t care what anyone says; 5150 is a bangin’ Van Halen album.

+1 on the 5150 love. Summer Nights is a killer tune. I was so bummed this one got played on the PA before Sammy's concert recently. I wish they did it live instead.
