OK, this is simple. If you use Spotify a good bit, go to your Liked Songs playlist, put it on shuffle, and list the first 5 songs that come up. Don't skip anything because you think it's silly or embarrassing. There are no such thing as guilty pleasures; you like what you like.
Also, put how many songs are on your list (just for kicks).

I mainly use Spotify for checking out new stuff, my main music library is still on a classic 160gb ipod :metal I could essentially do the same thing my listing the first 5 songs from my 5 star rated playlist.

I never have but I'm going to give it a try moving forward. I've always just added songs to certain playlists, or just kept using my recent search to find artists again. Between that and the "On Repeat" and annual playlists of songs I've always done it that way.

Yeah, I am less frequently listening to whole albums these days (usually just while I'm driving oddly enough), so this thread makes more sense for me.
I'm probably half and half full albums vs. playlists/individual songs. I like the what song are you listening to thread for this reason, but whenever I bump it, it seems to fall right back down, people are too entrenched in the album one.

Celldweller definitely isn't for everyone, it definitely piles on the cheese a lot more than Nine Inch Nails does. :lol But yeah, Wish Upon A Blackstar and End Of An Empire are both very good albums.

Maybe, but I think Klayton is a little more self-aware. NIN, as much as I like them, sometimes has an overly serious quality that seems unaware of how over the top and ridiculous it is. Kind of like a lot of black metal aesthetics, it's played so straight that it's laughable.

I guess, but NIN feels too genuine to be "over the top" or "ridiculous" to me. Albums like The Downward Spiral and The Fragile aren't just edgy for the sake of being edgy; they're legitimately dark albums.

Eh, buying and recording at Sharon Tate's house, the snuff films, music videos crucifying a monkey, that sort of stuff to me is very much shock value designed to push people's buttons. He was a bit more artistic and slightly less over top version of Manson in ways at the time. His work in general has aged better than Manson's for a variety of reasons (getting more into film scores for one thing has certainly helped), and I'm sure he had some genuinely dark emotions he was working out, but part of his method is just in the long line of upping the ante from Alice Cooper, KISS and such.

3rd time doing this ;D These are the 5 songs that came up today and a little something else:
1- Bound By Gravity by Haken: I haven't listened to Affinity in a long time but it's the album that got me into Haken (and not the first one I heard).
2- Talk Shows on Mute by Incubus: Anything from A Crow Left of the Murder is a win. Not a go to song for me but not one I'm skipping.
3- Boom! by System of a Down: :metal this was close to the end of peak SOAD in my book.
4- It'll be OK by Limp Bizkit: wow my Spotify is taking me back to early 2000s big time. Had to check which album is this on - not a song I've heard more than a couple of times including today.
5- Gang of Wolves by Bend Siniter: I'm a fan of their earlier style circa 2006-09 but even their more pop sound is great. I think I heard of them thanks for MPs album of the year list.

I think this is round 3 for me so here it is:
1- Foresaken by Dream Theater: not my go to song by any stretch though I do like the hook.
2- Creamer (Radio is Dead) by Limp Bizkit: This may as well be the second time ever I listen to this song. I had to click on it to see which album this is at.
3- Re-hash by Gorillaz - one of my all time fav opening tracks. To this day I revisit it at least once a year. Such a catchy tune!
4- Cry baby cry by The Beatles - most of the White Album is top notch - I enjoyed this one a lot.
5- Ilyna by The Mar Volta - this one is less appealing to me these days v. when the album came out. Not a song I look forward to hear but not a skip either.

Their last couple of albums feature Iuri Sanson on vocals. He's a beast. The early Hibria albums with him are incredible.

Yea I’m set in my ways and don’t want to rely on my phone for my music. My iPod is 11 years old now, but it’s still going.

Nice. My Fiio is almost 9 years old at this point (bought it used back in 2017), and it keeps working just fine, except for the wheel thingy, that's starting to show its age. Sound quality is excellent and on Line Out, it can sound quite loud on my speakers. Wished I had the money for a more modern iteration, but I can't really complain.

My one from '07 had a hard-drive failure 3-4 years ago, so with the remaining two one has a battery that is toast, and the other only outputs audio from the headphone jack in one ear, so both are only really usable at home via USB. Before using iPods I had Creative Labs products, but those are long-defunct.

Yea dude, I started with a 20gb Creative then moved up to a 32gb (with colour screen :omg: ). My iPod is showing it’s age. The headphone jack is shot so I had to buy one of the headphone adapters that connects to the 32 pin port at the bottom. The battery isn’t too bad considering, it needs charging every few days. It crashes every now and then but I’m proud of it :lol

I'm pretty loose with my Saving. I save about 6-10 albums every week. I comb through new releases every Friday, drop the needle and save what sounds decent. Plus recommendations in all of the various DTF threads.
Playing in roulettes allows me to explore what I have right under my nose.

Nobody's Wife was HUGE in Europe when it came out. Great song. The album (her debut, Together Alone) is quite nice overall, although that's definitely a stand out.
She did a ton more, but I only know a couple more of her albums - the second (Urban Solitude) and the third (Graduated Fool).

I think the title track and "Nowhere Haven" are better, but at least half of the songs on that album are incredible.
It is. The four she's on (two being bonus tracks) are some of my favorites on it. I was really hoping during the pandemic that he would do a third solo album, and he talked about it, but it seems like it didn't happen, or is delayed. Love for the two of them to work together again, but I'm not holding my breath.

I think Dave Grohl has totally mastered the pop rock mix. Wasting Light has a bunch of great examples - Walk, These Days, Band & Forth. Probably the last album of theirs I've really dedicated any considerable amount of time to.

100% agree. Wasting Light is one of my favorite Foo Fighters album, when I look at is as a whole. Very little (if any) filler, lots of great songs. None of their subsequent albums grabbed me quite as much.
