My balls have left the building. This is amazing and the arrangement is awesome and he plays everything.
It's actually MORE than one octave cuz of the key change at the end so it's like octave+1.

Good lord. Tommy's back must be hurting under the weight of carrying all that talent. The man can do anything he sets out to do. What a voice.
-
Tommy is amazing. Been a huge fan for the last 10-12 years.
He released an amazing cover of Eagle Fly Free earlier this week.

I'm glad to see he's getting a nice paycheck in Sabaton, but he's way out of their league.

I had no idea who this guy was until this video. So I looked him up and saw he was in Sabaton as the guitarist and backing vocalist. The first thing I thought was, what the hell is he doing with these clowns? :lol
Anyway, this dude hits some extremely impressive notes here. Very talented vocalist.
-
Sabaton are hardly 'clowns' but I agree his talent is wasted with them, but it's a payday.
I'LL SEE YOU IN MY DREAMS (GIANT) - Cover by Tommy Johansson

Dang I've never heard of this guy. Someone get him to do Gethsemane from Jesus Christ Superstar.
And I remember hearing that song in high school, loving it, and having a hell of a time figuring out who the band was.

My favourite cover from him is still to this day: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IKvlnMAt-bM&ab_channel=TommyJohansson

Incredible cover of Elton John's 'I'm Still Standing'
https://youtu.be/nkkcKQN5ntU

I learned about this dude from the Swedish Hits Go Metal and yea, insane voice (even though I don't find a ton of personality in it). I didn't know his name until I saw the Phantom video a day or two ago.
So I decided to look into him and find out his main gig is.....a guitarist in Sabaton?!?!?
WHY!?!?!
Nothing against Sabaton, but that's it?

He's been around for years. He's fronted his own band since he was in his teens, Reinxeed. I learned of him though his work with Golden Resurrection, which is Christian power metal band with the singer from Narnia. They made three albums in the early 2010's and they are awesome.
He joined Sabaton not that long ago. At least he's now getting paid!

That commute must be a bitch.

Reinxeed were reformed and renamed Majestica, so far they have one brilliant album and a Christmas album...

That Christmas album is fantastic. It's an album of Christmas songs I don't mind listening to outside of the holiday season.

I loved this. The style of that cover gave me The Night Flight Orchestra vibes, only with more power metal added.

Came across this cover:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fPAaJ8yoXXA
This is an Italian song, from the mid-90s, by a pop duo called 883. They were HUGE in Italy at the time. Not sure how he came across it and decided to cover it, but this is something else :) He does really well with Italian too, the guy's talent is clearly insane. The beginning is pretty faithful to the original, then of course it goes all euro-power on us. The amount of cheese in the original tune was already off the charts, and this brings it up a notch. A ton of fun for me, for sure, given the whole history with the song.
Of the people in the forum, I'm sure MirrorMask can appreciate

Today's video...
Blondie-Call Me!

First of all, I love classic Blondie, and Call Me is one of my favorite songs by them. This literally gave me goosebumps.

Tommy keeps pumping out incredible covers, this time it's 'Holding Out For A Hero'

Today's release from Tommy is Gary Moore's Empty Rooms.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5qkQwnJdgpo
Tommy loves Gary Moore and has covered him a few times and has payed homage to him a number of times in his career. He really pays tribute in the soloing. He doesn't Tommy-ize the solo. Those are Gary's chops from the 80's.
Still one song that never fails to move me, and he crushes it! :hefdaddy :hefdaddy :hefdaddy
-
Yeah watched it over and over, the extended solo is amazing, he just nails it, his tone playing and feel are so good.
I'd love Tommy to do a cover of 'The Loner'.
-
That original video of Gary's was damn good https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1uGQjnc9Jsk
Question: why does Johansson not show his face 90% of the time when he's playing keyboards or guitar??? I've always hated that type of camera work throughout the decade.
oh, and yeah, he does yet another terrific cover :tup
-
His last few covers haven't done anything for me. I had really high hopes for Viva Forever but the arrangement is blah.
I really hope he does Into the Unknown some day.
-
I loved his Call Me cover.

I love the Power Metal arrangement and think it fits well with the lyrics.

Probably so we can watch his fingers, we see his face enough when he is singing.

A new Christmas themed video everyday until Christmas!!

At the Sabaton show in late August in Italy, supporting Helloween, he had a talking spot where he showed off a great italian. He even sang a couple of bars from an italian pop singer. Days later, he released a full cover of that song, Una Canzone d'Amore (A love song). Totally didn't see that coming :D

Yep, I posted the link a few posts above...certainly didn't expect to see a power-metal cover version of a Max Pezzali/883 ballad. And you are one person that can certainly appreciate the shock value of the whole thing

That's a great song, but Tommy's version is a little too happy for the original.

Murder In the Skies - another amazing Gary Moore cover, using a PRS guitar that used to belong to the great man himself.
