Good evening everyone!
My name is John and I am an Audio Engineering student currently finishing up my Final Major Project. It just happens that I also play electric guitar as a hobby. The reason I share this content (I generally don't do that ) is because it is very close to my heart but also a decent enough project to share. Dream Theater is if not my most favorite then surely in the top 3 of my favorite bands. And this is obvious especially in these two tracks (13 and 9 minutes long respectively). They did not have to be that long ,it just happened...
Finally, I would like to say that this is - mostly - real instruments played by real people, a fact that elevates and promotes the tracks to a sum greater than just the parts. I would like you to have a listen and -why not- comment on factors such as Guitar inspiration and playing, Recording, Mixing Mastering, and whatnot. The track "The Longest Journey" has some hidden (or not so hidden :P) sections and elements as I consider it kind of a tribute track to some of my favorite music.
Hope all the best!
John

I just listened to the Longest Journey, and I'll listen to more a bit later. Those are some great arrangements that are very fun to listen to. The guitar solo section is awesome btw! Great melodic playing and I love how it slowly builds up.
The production sounds good overall, the only thing that seemed a bit overkill is the snare sound. That's just my personal take but it might sound ok to others. To be honest, I really need to listen to it on a decent sound system instead of my phone which I will do later. That way I can give a more accurate and fair take on the mix. Thanks for posting these songs, you have a great thing going on here! :tup
Btw, welcome to DT forums!

Thank you for the welcome!
I appreciate the fact that you had a listen to the tracks and for your kind words. I believe there is something in there for everyone.
Hearing back the songs I do agree with the fact that there are some high-mids in there that are exaggerated especially affecting Lead guitars and Snare timbre. This is mostly a Mastering issue that I get feedback on but I would not consider them "fatiguing" high end or fizz. Both Mid-Side EQ and expansion on these frequencies create somewhat of a buildup in this frequency area. If you happen to listen on a better system than my own (meaning Yamaha HS7s) it would be interesting to know whether they are too much of a big deal.
Until then
Regards
John
