It’s just not a good epic. There’s no cohesion or connectedness and nothing about the structure makes sense.

I would guess that he was referring to Illu as being that "only" epic (it being 20+ minutes long, featuring multiple movements and all that) as of now. Some of the MM-era pieces do have somewhat epic(esque) proportion on some level IMHO though. (BITS, BAI, Outcry, PBD probably) What do I know. All of them pieces I love though. (and who knows, maybe DT15 will have one or more 10+ minute pieces or even one or two 20+ minute pieces. I'd welcome either variety.)

I'd say Breaking All Illusions is there one live Epic. It's been played on all but 2 tours. One was a major concept tour, and the other was a New Album and Anniversary tour, so it had to left off to let them play their new album epic. Or 2 if you consider At Wit's End an epic, I do.
