https://earthsky.org/space/life-on-venus-phosphine-biosignatures
Short version: scientists believe they've found the presence of a gas called phosphine in the atmosphere of Venus, and the only known ways for phosphine gas to arise on a rocky planet is for it to be produced artificially in a lab, or via anaerobic microbes.
I recommend we all get very excited about this before we end up finding a boring explanation.

Very excited about this! So excited I think I'm gonna send kpop in your roulette now.

I see that Carson Napier has been busy!
Please someone know what I'm talking about :lol

I'm of the opinion that there is life all over the universe. Maybe not advanced life that is flying around in spaceships, but definitely bacteria.
Cool news though.

I do not.

They've known the possibilities of this for quite some time now because there are parts of Venus' atmosphere that are the same temperature as the surface of the Earth. Not exactly breaking news.

Agreed. Possibly many types of unknown life forms.

The possibility that it could exist, potentially, is completely different from finding compelling evidence that it might. That's like saying finding a wormhole wouldn't be a big deal because we already think it might be possible.
Also, this news just broke. It is definitionally breaking news.

Scott Manley just did a video on it:
Why Astronomers Think A Poisonous Gas On Venus Could Suggest Life On This Deadly Planet (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GWj85r02Oiw&ab_channel=ScottManley)
Btw we have a astronomy thread fyi: https://www.dreamtheaterforums.org/boards/index.php?topic=35392.msg2689869#new

I'll await peer reviewed journals before getting too excited.
