Hey Indi - no suggestions to add to the list, cause I can't think of any and that list is pretty long, but out of that list, the one that stands out to me is Du Hast from Rammstein. Honestly, I don't even like them that much, but to me that song stands out more than any of the other choices, and that's besides my love for DT and how much I like a bunch of the other songs on that list. Du Hast was pretty significant in that it got a lot of airplay (at least by me) despite all the lyrics being in German. AFAIK, they never had a hit like that again, but much like PMU did for DT, I think Du Hast put them on the radar of many people.
I mean, Rhapsody's debut was in '97, so there's that, if he's into that sort of thing.
Or Stratovarius's Visions: Black Diamond, Kiss of Judas...

wolfking beat you to Stratovarius. Gimme your fave from Rhapsody's debut!
Thanks Soundscape!
A couple of those have been already submitted, but great job nonetheless.
My brother listening to Metheny would be like a dog watching a magic trick, while Genesis (and Yes) is not his cuppa; we're already tempting fate with Marillion :lol
Oooh, this is a fantastic idea, let me take a gander at my collection.
Question, are we looking for stuff mostly in the realm of metal/rock? Or are we looking to expand your brothers musical horizons?
Or Stratovarius's Visions: Black Diamond,
I'm just going to go with my absolute favorites of 1997, regardless of genre and let you sift through them.

Foo Fighters - Everlong (Alternative Rock)
Enslaved - 793 (Slaget om Lindisfarne) (Progressive Black Metal)
I see Devin Townsend - Bastard was already mentioned, but that would be another one.

Yeah, their debut was inside the Billboard Top 10, and Freak Show reached number 12.

And really, whether or not you like it, you should put a Radiohead song on there from OK Computer. It's objectively the best album ever according to RateYourMusic and lots of music nerds. And I like stirring up the pot with pointless discussions. Where's WildRanger when you need him?
I would have went with Sign of the Times or You for Queensryche.
Happy you like that Dickinson pick.
Perfect Hammerfall song too.
I've always been drawn to Where the wild things are, it has a cool vibe too it and kinda diffrent.
One day, and I've already missed the 1997 stop on this train. :sadpanda: Oh well, all the best stuff has already been mentioned. Love to see the mention of Big Wreck, though likely not heavy enough for Big Bro. And Vanden Plas / Rainmaker ... Top 10 Prog-metal song of all-time for me. Maybe Top 5.
I'll weigh in when we get to '98.
Jeez, some people suggesting like 20 songs is clogging up the list. :lol
Also Indi, if you're going to take a week to do each year then it won't be ready in time for September 12th. There are 23 years you need to do, and only 10 weeks to do it in. :P
This is like a whole new way of running a roulette!

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say, Mew, Dredg, The Tea Party, and Godspeed You Black Emperor all get cut for sure. Not sure about the 5th one.
It took only 8 seconds of riffing to make me realise Mogg / Way is safe.
Fates Warning: I want him to listen to those lyrics
That's a good Edguy album.
That's a good Edguy album.

Massive fan, but could never get into the debut.
For 98:Anything but Burning Times.

As always you are the voice of reason, but I really don't have it in me to regulate help.
Maybe each person is only allowed to suggest a certain number of songs? May take a little longer but will make it fair across the board. That was my suggestion but I completely appreciate Indi doesn't want to have to police it. :lol But it would be really cool if people could limit themselves voluntarily for, say, the first 24 hours of each year, just to give others a chance to post their top suggestions. And then after that a free-for-all.

By doing that, Alex will still get a shitload of suggestions in that first day, and then some extra top-up ones after, which wouldn't really be any different to how these first two years have gone. So I don't think it would hold anything up. :)

In that case, can I make a plea for kindness and ask people to voluntarily try and keep to like 6 or 7 suggestions, at least initially, to give the rest of us a chance? :P
Yeah I've already given up seeing people already in the double digits. No hope for me, clearly my tastes will not work here lol

Uriah Heep-Everything In Life
How's 1998 treating you, Indy?
1998 is teating me way better than it did in real life
Iced Earth: My Own Savior. Kicks more ass.
Blind Guardian: Into the Storm. Must follow the will of the world.
Rhapsody: Emerald Sword. He really enjoyed Cadash and Golden Axe.
LTE: Paradigm Shift. I already know his preference.
Opeth: April Ethereal (over Demon of the Fall). That was a focking earful.
Death: Spirit Crusher. Ha was a fan, plus they win my prize for Most Amazing Band with Vocals I Can't Stand.
Shadow Gallery: Stiletto in the Sand. Perfect introduction.
Bruce Dickinson: Chemical Wedding (over Book of Thel), the phaaaaaaaantom of the opera is here, inside your mind.
Ayreon: Across the Rainbow Bridge (over The Castle Hall), I dig it, not sure big bro would.
Gorguts: Obscura. I have found it. Help!
Devin Townsend: Bad Devil, cute. Not bulletproof though.
Phantom's Opera: Heartache. Extremely risky.
Power of Omens: Alone I Stand. Everything I hate in prog metal, but some drumming he really needs to hear.
Trans Siberian Orchestra: Appalachian Snowfall. Doesn't beat Stiletto in the Sand as token instrumental intro.
Von Groove: All for Rock'n'Roll. I'd really love to smuggle this slice of 1986 inside 1998.
Korn: Freak on a Leash (over Got the Life), by virtue of the scat section.
King's X: Groove Machine. No doubts about this.
Helloween: Midnight Sun (over Hey Lord), it should have made the United setlist.
Hammerfall: Heeding the Call (over Dreamland), it should have made the United ripoff setlist.
Soilwork: Entering the Angel Diabolique. Now I've got the instrumental outro.
Amon Amarth: Ride for Vengeance. Sure. Holy shit though.
Edguy: Out of Control. I'm warming to these guys.
Arch Enemy: Bridge of Destiny. Absolutely wonderful. There, I said it.
Fear Factory: Shock. Don't like it, he does.
Iron Maiden: The Clansman, over Women in Uniform.
Meshuggah: Corridor of Chameleons (over New Millemmiun Cyanide Christ). Not sure bro is a djentleman, but he should dig the heaviness.
Metallica:Whiskey in the Jar.Overruled, because the best version is already on playlist 1972. Let's Turn the Page.
Monster Magnet: Powertrip (over Space Lord). Rocks hard enough.
Nightwish: Gethsemane. In, knowing he can't hear those couple of one comma flat spots.
Symphony X: Smoke and Mirros, over longer and more boring stuff.
Therion: The Rise of Sodom and Gomorrah. Tell you what, yes.
Borknagar: The Black Token. Goblins everywhere.
Eldritch: Bleed Mask Bleed. Doesn't hurt.
Labyrinth: The Night of Dreams, tiptoeing on the ledge.
Threshold: Freaks, over half album. Not so hot though.
Van Halen: Fire in the Hole. That fat outro forced this in.
Primal Fear: Chainbreaker. Judas Priest always gets you in this.
Virgin Steele: A Whisper of Death, easily in.
Grave Digger: Knights of the Cross. Clinch.
Axel Rudi Pell: Carousel. Can't say no.
UDO: With a Vengeance, literally.
Motorhead: Better Off Dead. 1.5 seconds were all I needed.
Freak Kitchen: Mr Kashchei and the 13 Prostitutes. Already certified awesome, too bad he won't spot the noble reference.
Marylin Manson: Rock Is Dead (over Mechanical Animals), has a slim chance.
The Offspring: The Kids Aren't Alright. Not submitted, by executive decision.
Pearl Jam: Wishlist. As above. I know, but the sister in law has a Wishlist verse tattoed on her shoulder. Gotta throw her a bone.
Joe Satriani: Crystal Planet. Gorgeous, but not a total lock.
Slayer: Point (over Bitter Peace). Sure, in, but bleargh.
Anthrax: Catharsis. Last second entry.
Uriah Heep: Everything in Life. Gotta love them.
Did you check Anthrax’s Catharsis Alex? It’s one of their best Bush Era tracks.

Or if you're looking into adding a couple of ballads (not power ballads, just excellent ballads) to the list, I suggest Kamelot - A Sailorman's Hymn which I think is amazing.
Creed - What If
Edguy-Babylon
Didn't see that Tim did a Chad and stole one of my bands in Bodom.

I don't care at all, was just an opportunity to have a dig at Chad!
Dammit I forgot to suggest Atlantis Falling by Iron Savior for 97 :(
Alex, I'm sure you're aware, but Control Denied is Chuck Schuldiner's band, and is basically the members of Death with clean vocals.
The rest of Scenes ;)
Angel Dust - Bleed
Dreamscape - I Leave the Past Behind
Katatonia - A Darkness Coming
James LaBrie - Mullmuzzler - As a Man Thinks
Sonata Arctica - Replica or My Land
Tiles - Modification
Vanden Plas - Far Off Grace or Iodic Rain

Ahhh, 1999. Now we're closer to the stuff I used to listen to as a kid when my older sister was probably blasting KROQ (local LA alt rock radio station) or random CDs. Found a lot of stuff.
Switchfoot - "Sooner or Later (Soren's Song)" or Company Car
Staind - Mudshovel
Blink 182 - What's My Age Again, Adam's Song, or All the Small Things (all three are major staples from KROQ)
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Californication
Limp Bizkit - Break Stuff or Nookie
Sevendust - Denial, Waffle, or Home
Bush - The Chemicals Between Us
Foo Fighters - Learn to Fly

Once this thread hits '03 I'll be cheesin' it up. Just you wait
By just a hunch I feel 2000-2005 is just monumental in metal.Once this thread hits '03 I'll be cheesin' it up. Just you wait
Once this thread hits the mid-00s, I'm gonna have a LOT of trouble keeping my suggestions to just 10. That's when my musical exploration kicked into high gear.
Pretty much the same for me. Right around 2004 I started digesting much more music. Plus there's so much great music throughout the 2000's in general.Once this thread hits '03 I'll be cheesin' it up. Just you wait

I don't want to denigrate people's taste in music, but I can't believe people are putting forward Creed songs as the best of each respective year...NO shit.

I can't believe it made the playlist.
We must all really suck.
At least we haven't seen any Nickleback suggestions!

Oh, it'll be coming. When we get to their era, I got some I can give a shoutout to.
I've never been able to connect with Mullmuzzler.
:dunno:

I prefer them because it shows James' vocal range. His later albums, while musically really strong, just don't do anything for me vocally.

James' solo albums are the reason I was totally against Peter Wildoer being in DT.
I do love the Mullmuzzler albums and Elements of Persuasion though.
James' solo albums are the reason I was totally against Peter Wildoer being in DT.What was wrong with Peter's drumming? I guess you might mean that his drumming didn't suite DT which I agree on however imo he's great on those albums. In general he's an awesome drummer and the stuff he plays with his main band Darkane is very creative.

There's nothing wrong with his drumming whatsoever. :)
I'm going to suggest 2000 songs pretty soon. Some of them might even be from the year 2000This Walrus is jumping the gun. Who ever heard of an impatient Walrus?
Actually I'm just gonna get these out of the way for 2000
Edguy - Frozen Candle
Iron Maiden - Ghost of the Navigator
Fates Warning - Pieces of Me
Jørn Lande - The Day The Earth Caught Fire (it's a cover but rocks) OR Gate of Tears for an original
Rhapsody - Dawn of Victory
Helloween - Mr. Torture OR Deliver Us From Temptation if it's available
Stratovarius - Phoenix

I’ve been sending Caroline’s Spine, who are a lot like Creed in some ways but with a sense of humor and less into themselves.

Decent band. Roy Thomas Baker, who produced Queen, Journey, The Cars, etc, also produced one of their albums. They were promoting it when they opened for Queensryche during the HITNF tour. I really enjoyed their performance.

(I'm adding the completed playlists in the OP, 'cause I live to serve)Though you may find your service restricted at some point, as post's do have a character limit. So you may prefer to include links to the post that has the playlist for each year instead, either now or when it gets to a point where it no longer lets you add more!
Also, not sure if you caught it Alex, but you've got Evergrey twice on the '99 playlist. Not sure if you're trying for 50 unique bands for each year. I doubt you'll get 50 unique bands year-over-year, cuz too many will show up on subsequent albums.

Let’s get weird (they only probably get less heavy from here for me):
Beer for Dolphins - Ankle Bracelet
Geddy Lee - Grace to Grace
King’s X - Smudge
Kip Winger - Cross
Mr. Big - Static
Platypus - 25

No sure how I skipped over Ayreon - must've scrolled right to the "B"s by accident. Anyway, you definitely want something from The Flight of the Migrator; The Dream Sequencer is all prog and no metal.I was actually thinking on picking Chaos, such a great and explosive opener. +1 for including a drumsolo!
My recommendation is either Dawn of a Million Souls (Allen), or Into the Black Hole (Dickinson). Chaos is a great instrumental too.
I like your thinking MrBoom. FYI, Alex... Ian Parry is the vocalist on The New Migrator - same guy that was in a band with Arjen in the mid 80s (Vengeance); writer/composer/vocalist of The Consortium Project albums; and vocalist on the Elegy album/track I recommended.
Oh fudge, I forgot about My Favorite Headache. Good call.
Geddy Lee - Working at Perfekt
Here's my albums release calendar for the year 2000

I'm not going suggest any songs, but I do think it would be rather sad if nobody recommended something from Kevin Gilbert's
The Shaming of the True.

We moving to the 2000s hey, oh lard ol mighty have mercie this will be tough!
Ayreon - The New Migrator (Decided to pick not the most popular on that album, however I think it's killer though!)
Devin Townsend - Kingdom
Hammerfall - The Way of the Warrior
In Flames - Bullet Ride
Linkin Park - One Step Closer
Pantera - Revolution Is My Name
Symphony X - Egypt
Iron Maiden - The Wicker Man
A whole millennium turned, and I'm still absent-minded. Updated. Sorry, guys. You are forgiven.
Nightingale - Scarred For Life
Millennium - Hourglass
Sinergy- Midnight Madness
Deftones - Digital Bath:facepalm: I can't believe I forgot about Deftones. Add Deftones - Knife Party :)

I'm not sure if I've sent them to Indi in a roulette or not, but I've thought about it many times. Songs like Power To Love and Wheels Are Turning would be interesting to him because to me they're super theatrical... almost like they could be part of a musical, they have that pep to them.
I'm very much alive, sorry to disappoint :lol
Apologies for the absence, but work came back with a big ass vengeance and I had to hustle and rush into the old rythm.
This week I'm on stage, so things stay frozen. Afer that, we'll make history with a crazy heavy metal race against time. :metal

No 3-hour bus rides to the company?
Indi sleeps under the stage 6 feet apart from everybody for the next 3 months.
Are there stage productions happening somewhere in the world right now?
Those 6 feet are the reason I'm working around the clock right now. Everyone on stage must be at a safe distance, every entrance/exit must be isolated, the stage props handling is a chess game.
Gotta give this a little bump, just to give Indy a friendly reminder. :corn
I, too, hope he can circle back on this. I've got plenty of songs from the nu-metal/post-grunge/alt metal era ready to go......
Not everyone is like you Tim, a shut-in pop-culturally speaking. :biggrin:Fixed that for you

We are talking about our wants to an idea of a birthday present to a members family member.
We've jumped the fucking shark for our own need.
WAIT FOR INDI TO ASK FOR AN OTHER YEAR FOLKS!
It's not about us. It's about Indi, and his birthday present.
I get it. It's fun as all hell but let's not push Indi for our own needs.
So we have to do years 2000-2019.
What if we do it for him?
What if we each take a year, or two?
Everyone should prepare a list of 8 to 10 songs for each year, and whoever is in charge of that year puts the list together?
So for example,
Each of us will post 8 or so songs for 2001, 2002, 2203, and so on.
Let's say Chad has 2001. Chad will compile a Top 50 for that year. Let's say Ariich has 2002. Rich would then compile a list from the suggestions for 2002.
I think everything would have to be on Spotify, no?
What do you guys think?
We can compile suggestions for each year prehand about let's say 60 for each year, that way Indi just needs to listen to 1140 songs in one go, easypeasy. :lol
*Not entirely serious

Not entirely joking either I'll bet.
I get it. It's fun as all hell but let's not push Indi for our own needs.
You drunk? I don't have any needs. Just an idea to help. That's all. Man, I didn't think it would be so controversial.

Lol. Not drunk. Everybody seems so impatient for Indi to start this up. It isn't even a game.
This is the main reason I haven't run a Roulette.

You haven't run a roulette because people are impatient?
Apologies, guys. I'm having a hell of a time setting things for the France show in motion, and said things are getting a little bit ugly (people - and friends - fired for refusing to work with masks on and whatnot). Forced vacation was less stressful, in a way.
Nonetheless, I really feel guilty for leaving you hanging this way after the wonderful effort you put out. Rest assured I'm not giving up, and should the deadline come too fast, I have a beautiful plan B: giving my bro one playlist every day starting from 9/12, therefore gaining at least twenty days of breathing room.
Tim and Kade, I am really moved by the idea you had. Very thoughtful and noble. I do thank you, big guys, as I thank Joe and Chad not agreeing with that idea for equally thoughtful and noble reasons, and everybody else for trying to troll me back
I think I can restart tomorrow with 2000's results.

You haven't run a roulette because people are impatient?
Yeah. 100%
I know for a fact that I wouldn't keep up with one round in 5 days to a week. So yeah, that's why.
Yeah. It's your roulette. You're setting the rules and timelines, not the participants. If you're clear from the beginning that the rounds will take two weeks, then it's two weeks. Everyone who doesn't like it can just skip your roulette and that's it. I know I'll definitely play.
I'd be in too! :2metal:Yeah. It's your roulette. You're setting the rules and timelines, not the participants. It's still icky.

Alas, it didn't.
