Maybe Harmony you should take up the certainly annoying task to update each day the thread title with the kind of song requested, it will draw better attention to the thread I guess....

Stads, have you seen this (https://youtu.be/Y40o5ddhxcI)?
I didn't know you saw U2 Tim. I'll assume in Foxborough?
I saw the War tour in the Orpheum in 83 and The Unforgettable Fire tour in 85 at The Centrum.
I didn't know you saw U2 Tim. I'll assume in Foxborough?
I saw the War tour in the Orpheum in 83 and The Unforgettable Fire tour in 85 at The Centrum.
Is that Orpheum show the 'legendary' one? Didn't they play a show there that essentially broke them in the States?
I saw the first leg of The Joshua Tree show in Hartford ("Outside is America... outside is HARTFORD, CONNECTICUT!" Uh, Bono, have you BEEN out there? You wouldn't be so excited about it... :)) and that was a game-changing show. Don't think I've ever felt that kind of energy before. Not "Maiden Metal" energy, or "Guns'n'Roses dangerous" energy, but a sort of... I don't know how to put it. Like you were watching something that was WAY more than the sum of it's parts, or way more than just the time it was being played. Like it was something that would resonate.

Marilyn Manson - The Beautiful People
It reminds me of Marilyn Manson, who I’d rather forget.
I remember getting my license and the 1st song I cranked in the car on cassette no less was "Neon Knights" Black Sabbath.
Blood and Thunder - Mastodon :2metal:
Day 5 - A song that needs to be played loud
Metallica - Disposable HeroesThat's what I was coming here to post. Good choice.
Day 6 - A song that makes you want to dance
The Mars Volta - L'Via L'Viaquez
Tower Of Power - Soul With A Capital S
Creedence Clearwater Revival - Looking Out My Backdoor
Radar Love - Golden Earring.
A song that makes me want to dance? Nah, next.
A song to drive to - Joe Satriani - Driving At Night
Black Sabbath - Snow Blind

Where I sit with the broken angels
Clutchin' at straws and nursin' our scars
Blame it on me, blame it on me
Sugar mice in the rain

Fairies Wear Boots, Sweet Leaf, Hand of Doom, Killing Yourself to Live, the list goes on.
Day 8 - A song about drugs or alcohol

Actually the whole album Clutching at Straws would be a fit for this one, with the exception of White Russian

I love The Sweet. Desolation Boulevard is one of my all time favorite albums. I have Level Headed on vinyl.
Pity the Child - Murray Head
Pity the Child - Murray Head
Cool never seen that before, don't think I've heard anything from Chess to be honest.
I've said this before here, but my first experience with Jesus Christ Superstar was a college play. I loved it and bought the 1970 recording. I knew Deep Purple, so Ian Gillan was familiar to me. The rest of the names in the liner notes were not. There are also no pictures. Whatever, that's fine. Then I saw the 1973 movie. Kinda cool, realized it was a different cast (other than Barry Dennen and Elliman). Judas was black, which made sense, since the guy on the 1970 recording was black. Wait... huh? He's not black? But, he sings with so much.... soul! How is the Judas on that recording not black?!
A song about a boy who grew up knowing his parents didn't give a shit about him who goes on to become one of the best chess players of the world.

Harmony, thanks for your link. I like concept albums and am listening to it now.
Billy Vera and the Beaters - At This Moment
I was a big fan of the 80s TV show Family Ties and they played this song on a few episodes with Michael J Fox's college girlfriend (and real-life wife) when they began dating and later when she left him on the show.
Braveheart soundtrack - probably the most emotional movie soundtrack that I've heard. James Horner hit a grand slam with it. I know people give the movie shit because of some of the factual inaccuracies, but I still love the movie for what it is and man does that soundtrack add so much to that movie. Specifically when Wallace sees first-hand when Robert the Bruce betrayed him when it comes to a song that makes me sad.
I'd be surprised if you never heard the song One Night in Bangkok - which was also Murray Head from Chess.
Harmony, thanks for your link. I like concept albums and am listening to it now.
Yes!! The clip I posted was from a mini revival if memory serves. The remastered double CD is fab. Highly recommended.
James Horner wrote amazing film scores. I've never seen Braveheart.
I only know of The Patriot for other Horner scores. Guess I need to see what else he's done.
I generally do not get sad when listening to any music...
Ark - Silent Is The Rain

Yes - Roundabout
I get tired of Roundabout halfway through. :lol
Day 11 - A song you never tire of hearingNot a very interesting choice for this forum I guess but...
There is just something about Chris squire's note selections throughout that song that I find interesting. And I agree that the song kind of falls apart about half way and is almost an unorganized " jam ". But for some reason I never get tired of hearing it as stated in the subject line.

King Crimson - Starless

One wedding I did, the father-daughter dance was "Call Me Irresponsible." Chatted up one of the guests, found out the bride got pregnant, which helped move the schedule of the wedding date forward, shall we say.
Day 14 - A song you would want played at your wedding
Also, are we already on Day 17? I don't think I recall giving a response for 17 different topics.

Ok - Day 15 - A song you like that's a cover by another artist.Feeling Good - Muse (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CmwRQqJsegw), a cover of Nina Simone's version. I only just realised that her song was itself a cover and it was originally written by Anthony Newley and Leslie Bricusse for a musical.
I have probably heard that at some point, but as it's not on any studio disc, I don't listen to it ever. But that made me think of:
Doctor, Doctor by Iron Maiden (UFO).
Which made me think of: the recording of Perfect Strangers (Deep Purple) Bruce did with Dream Theater.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d-kmhmQxkeY
Dream Theater - Take Your Fingers From My Hair (originally by Zebra)
I've heard both. The original is iconic.
Van Halen's 'You Really Got Me' (Kinks)by far, along with 'Pretty Woman' (Roy Orbison), and 'Dancing In The Streets' (Martha and the Vandellas)
Both of mine are DT covers: King Crimson's Larks' Tongues in Aspic 2 and Elton John's Funeral For a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding
Sorry Jammindude, I should have quoted, I was referring to: I'll go with Cross-Eyed Mary, originally by Jethro Tull, and as covered by Iron Maiden.
Cover: (I went with something that most people don't know is a cover, as opposed to a blatant cover):
. . .
"I Will Always Love You", by Whitney Houston (originally done by Dolly Parton)

Time Warp (from Rocky Horror Picture Show)
Note that I actually have done this as a duet a handful of times. My friend Rachel and I would always do this whenever our group of friends ended up at a bar where there was karaoke, and we would always fall on the ground at the end of the song like they do in the movie. Hehe. :hat

You could claim songs from Led Zeppelin's debut as being "from" 1968 since the album was recorded that year, although not released until 12 days into 1969.
Day 18 - A song from the year you were bornReal slim pickings for me, I don't listen to much from any time around the year I was born - 1985.

I would pay to see videos of this if they existed (and I mean that in a truly complementary way). I went to a few midnight showings, my ex was a huge fan, and we even hosted a few parties at our home with bed sheets on the furniture and a tarp on the floor, in order to make for an easier cleanup from the water, rice, toast etc that was tossed about.
By sheer coincidence, number one and two on my personal list of "Greatest Songs of All Time":Good Vibrations is SO GOOD! Have you seen the Polyphonic video on it?

Not bored at all. I legit couldn't think of one song for the last category.

That's a great choice, right there.
TAC when I first heard his voice, I thought of the lead singer from Vanden Plas doing Gethsemane. Not because of the religious connotation but his actual voice. Nice vocal range.

Day 24 - A song by a band you wish were still togetherReturn of the Jedi - Reuben (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lw-hH6Rmm2s) - don't be put off by the harsh vocals in the first minute, it's mostly clean vocals.
Deep Purple (Mark II) - Flight Of The Rat
Queen - Funny How Love Is
Just wanted to add one more to yesterday's song. A song people need to hear.
Gary Moore-One Day (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cjXmTN_Bqt0)
I wish I could hear a new Gary Moore song, so it's probably fitting for today's theme as well.
That guitar still makes me tear up.
No mention of 90s-era Dream Theater? :neverusethis:
Nothing to really say here... along the lines of Stadlers' list of bands, the 'classic' era bands I wish were still together, I'm not sure I'd enjoy them if they still were. I mean, are the ones that are still together even worth listening to anymore (Stones, Aerosmith, Kiss etc...)? Have they done anything relevant in the past 20 years?
Maybe It Bites / The Tall Ships (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3DFsrm3Oj9w) ?
Deep Purple (Mark II) - Flight Of The Rat
Queen - Funny How Love Is
You're cheating (or portending a future day's theme). The numerous lineup changes in Deep Purple and the death of arguably the most important member in Queen notwithstanding, both of these bands are still together.
I did, however, overlook Zeppelin in my prior response.

If we can throw out a band with a deceased member, then virtually any Rush song and lots of Queen songs would suffice (or maybe "(Anesthesia) Pulling Teeth" by Cliff Burton/Metallica). On the other hand, if we're talking about solo artists (or bands where everyone's dead), then it becomes much harder.

Jimi Hendrix Experience: Little Wing
Emerson Lake and Powell: Touch And Go
Anything with Ronnie Dio.
I've heard of Little Wing, but if I've heard the song, I don't know. Don't like Hendrix at all.
Even Kirk Hammett did that song on Binge and Purge. :metalI've heard of Little Wing, but if I've heard the song, I don't know. Don't like Hendrix at all.
Little Wing is a fantastic song that has been covered by dozens of artists over the years - Eric Clapton with Derek and the Dominos, Jeff Beck, Sting, SRV, Chieftains, etc. I like Hendrix to a degree, but his version is not my preferred version by a long shot. So you might like some of the other versions.
25 or 6 to 4 - Chicago (Terry Kath)
Which is it? 25? Or 6 to 4?

Little Wing - Stevie Ray Vaughan (from "The Sky Is Crying") - 7:00-ish
Little Wing - Sting (from "...Nothing Like The Sun") - 5:00-ish
Little Wing - Concrete Blonde (a b-side, but from the "Still In Hollywood" compilation) - 4:00-ish

I've never heard of Chieftans, but I'm not a fan of any of those other artists.Little Wing - Stevie Ray Vaughan (from "The Sky Is Crying") - 7:00-ish

Really don't like SRV, and Sting's solo stuff always seemed pretty lame to me. In the early days of our relationship, my wife bought me a Concrete Blonde CD. All I remember is a song called Joey and another one with something about vampires. I pretended to like it for a while, but I don't recall liking the singer's voice too much.
Nonetheless, I'll give these versions (along with the Hendrix version, which I'm 45 seconds into and already don't like) a quick listen.
EDIT: I got bored with the Hendrix version after 3 minutes. I switched to SRV and it sounded no different, so I quit after about 90 seconds. I didn't find a studio version by Beck. The version I listed to seemed about the same as the others, except that his guitar had more distortion. I tried Concrete Blond. It was better because it was about 20+ BPM faster, but then the singer started singing. I hadn't even gotten to vocals on the Hendrix or SRV versions! Of course, Hendrix's vocals make anything worse, and I don't like SRV's singing either, so it's not like vocals would have improved anything.
Sorry, guys. Extremely bluesy stuff is never going to be to my taste. Also, this confirmed that I don't think I've ever heard the song before.
Hey, if you don't like it you don't like it. I appreciate you taking the effort. I like the Sting and CB versions (they're not that far off) because of the dreamy quality of arrangements. The SRV version doesn't have vocals, it's all instrumental, but it's also, as you noted, bluesier, so that's apparently a trade off.
Thanks, though, sincerely.
Of course, Hendrix's vocals make anything worse...
Seeing SRV from the 10th row was mindblowing. Also my ears paid for it. He plays so loud.

Phew... I thought it was just me who thought that.
Let me add Roxy Music - "More Than This" as well.
Stay (I Missed You) - Lisa Loeb
I literally listened to this 5 times in a row the other night. All the mid-90s feels were evoked.

Day 26 - A song that makes you want to fall in love
Def Leppard - Pour Some Sugar on Me
Oh, are we doing songs that make you want to puke now?
SOOO many Liz Phair songs. She is probably my all time #1 female rock star "crush". But I think maybe the #1 choice for a song of hers that makes me melt like butter would be Shatter.

Some songs can qualify for multiple days.
All I know is that, most of the time I've heard PSSoM, I've wanted to fall in love with the girl on the stage.

I'd go with H.W.C.
I knew this thread would be entertaining but this is even more than I bargained for! :Rollin

I don't know if you're referring to me and pg's Liz Phair posts or not, but just as a side point.... I thought it was really funny that I was commenting on a Liz Phair video on YT once, and a gay guy commented and one of the things he said was, "Liz Phair is the girlfriend that every gay guy wishes for their straight friends." I about died laughing. May have been the best compliment I've ever seen on a YT video.
Day 27 - A song that breaks your heart
Because it came up in the car today;
Gary Moore - Still Got the Blues
Such a loss. Legend. I'm feeling a Gary Moore kick coming on.

Computer issues made me miss yesterday. Sorry about that. We are almost done.
Day 29 - A song you remember from your childhood
The Beatles - Rocky Raccoon
My mom tells me that I was obsessed with this song when I was little and wanted her to play it over and over. I think it might be the earliest recorded song I can remember listening to.
I could pretend to be cool and post some immortal classic
