Honestly, that's kind of what I expected/feared. Zierler is my musical barometer for fans of metal around these parts whose tastes are in a vague haze, like yours, so at least I have an idea of what to aim for and avoid in metal. Difficult listen for sure, although I am disappointed you're not a fan of Kelly Carpenter's voice. Guess I'm not gonna send Outworld. :lol

For the most part, Ihlo have a much warmer melodic and harmonic approach than Tesseract do. The only time Tesseract really went so richly melodic was Altered State, which unsurprisingly you and I like the most of theirs (it's the only one I love). There's a nice subtle build to this, I'm liking it, just wish it had some more personality to it.
Spent almost the entire song waiting for something to happen, there's some questionable songwriting choices, but I find it engaging enough.
Really digging the atmosphere, I'm pretty positive this will grow on me even more.

There's some stuff to like here, but this one element is mostly killing my enjoyment.
I recognize this is a grower now, it took me some time to get over the repeated melody in the verses, it was ruining what was mostly a fun and very smoothly composed little song. When the vocals get more intense and the song transitions to a bit of a heavier passage briefly is when it gets truly interesting. I feel like it's similar to the Frank Ocean song in that regard, though this song does it better for my taste. Fast back and forths, memorable melodies, and a great bass sound. I'm really curious to check out the album, even if I'm not 'sold' just on the fact that it's a bit of a short tune that doesn't give me enough opportunity to truly figure out how much I would be into it.

Jesus be blessed as that is a pretty good review. Eventhough it is straight out blasphemy to rate any of my next submissions higher than Frank Ocean. 7-9 are damn near unplayable in their original states these days imo especially if it's your first time. 4-6 are still really accessible though cause 16 bit era is great. 1-3 are iffy but all three suck tremendous booty in some ways

Really glad you liked the Caravan Palace though! Their first three albums are all fantastic - the first is probably the most consistently good IMO so ends up being my favourite, but my favourite individual tracks are mostly on the second and third.
