A few concerts announced today for next summer, including the first one at my local amphitheater that I attend so many concerts at:

January 12th - Epica @ Webster Hall, New York City, NY
February 29th - Devin Townsend and Haken @ Warsaw, Brooklyn NY
March 1st - Devin Townsend and Haken @ Paradise Rock Club, Boston MA?????
June 22nd - Ozzy and Megadeth @ Madison Square Garden, New York City NY
August 4th - Journey and The Pretenders @ PNC Bank Arts Center, Holmdel NJ
August 22nd - Amaranthe and Battle Beast @ Gramercy Theatre, New York City NY
October 17th - Hammerfall and Beast in Black @ Gramercy Theatre, New York City NY

the last three being the new additions and I want to go to that Devin show in Boston but it's definitely not for certain yet.  I've gone to Boston the last two years in the winter for a concert, I'm totally down to making it three years in a row as I love it up there for a good show.

Cram, is that Journey show the full ampitheater or just the seated part? That's a pretty big venue for that bill, isn't it?

I've never seen a show there where they pulled down a curtain or cut off sections.  It will be a full amphitheater.  It's a big venue for them, but much much smaller acts have taken the stage there.  It will sell well enough I'd imagine.  Of course I won't buy a ticket for that venue until day of.

And I imagine the lawn seats will be the price of a six-pack (that's what they do here in CT).  It's been a long time, as far as I can tell, but it's not unheard of to have the back of Hartford closed off.   Turns it into about a 6,000 seat theater.  It doesn't happen much because they put those shows into the Oakdale in Wallingford.

I've heard Journey is GOOD; I can take or leave the Pretenders.

I still have to plan, but you may get a text from me on those Devin shows; I'd like to see him at least once.

Journey was solid when I saw them twice with Def Leppard last year.  If that show wasn't in my backyard, I'd have to consider, but being so close to home and usually able to score a single concert day ticket makes it a no brainer to check out shows like that.

I'm really really looking forward to Devin, plus Haken is a cherry on top.

All right, finally see some bands that I want to get tickets for 2020.

I want to see Alter Bridge on these days and make a trip out of it and this time I will do some sightseeing and probably make a trip to Couer D'Alene, ID.

2/23/20 – San Francisco, CA – The Regency Ballroom
2/24/20 – Los Angeles, CA – The Wiltern
2/26/20 – Seattle, WA – The Moore
2/27/20 – Spokane, WA – Knitting Factory

I also note that Shinedown is doing a deep cuts tour as well at the Wiltern on May 14th.  Given that they have played the local Amphitheater here two years in a row, I imagine the LA theater show will sell out fast or be very expensive for a small venue, but here's to hoping I get a ticket at a good value.

Adding this to my list and just scooped up a ticket (I have a cheap seat I like in this theatre so wanted to scoop that up at the on sale time today)

February 19th - Live @ Count Basie Theatre, Red Bank NJ

I definitely want to check out the Motley Crue / Def Leppard / Poison tour.  I haven't seen any dates yet but I see this on facebook so I'm marking it down although I know this may be a fake date, seems possible though.  Here's my updated 2020 list:

January 12th - Epica and Starkill @ Webster Hall, New York City, NY
January 30th - Sleeping With Sirens @ Starland Ballroom, Sayreville NJ
February 6th - Sons of Apollo @ Gramercy Theatre, New York City NY
February 19th - Live @ Count Basie Theatre, Red Bank NJ
February 29th - Devin Townsend and Haken @ Warsaw, Brooklyn NY
March 1st - Devin Townsend and Haken @ Paradise Rock Club, Boston MA?????
March 13th - Rome & Duddy Friends and Family Acoustic @ Bergen Performing Arts Center, Englewood NJ
April 24th - Godsmack/Halestorm/Theory of a Deadman/Dirty Honey/Dinosaur Pile-up @ Prudential Center, Newark NJ
June 13th - Motley Crue, Def Leppard, & Poison @ Metlife Stadium, East Rutherford NJ
June 22nd - Ozzy and Megadeth @ Madison Square Garden, New York City NY
August 4th - Journey and The Pretenders @ PNC Bank Arts Center, Holmdel NJ
August 22nd - Amaranthe and Battle Beast @ Gramercy Theatre, New York City NY
September 9-12th - ProgPower USA @ Center Stage, Atlanta GA

Here's my list so far.  Not going to regret spending the money to make the trip to these shows.  Plus, I paid a bit much for the Shinedown show since it's a smaller venue than the outdoor amphitheaters they have been doing in the last few years and they are advertising playing deeper cuts.

Alter Bridge with Clint Lowery and Deepfall opening - The Regency Ballroom - San Francisco, CA. February 23rd, 2020.
Alter Bridge with Clint Lowery and Deepfall opening - The Wiltern Theater - Los Angeles, CA. February 24th, 2020.
Alter Bridge with Clint Lowery and Deepfall opening - The Moore Theater - Seattle, WA. February 26th, 2020.
Alter Bridge with Clint Lowery and Deepfall opening - The Knitting Factory - Spokane, WA. February 27th, 2020.
Shinedown - The Wiltern Theater - Los Angeles, CA. May 14th, 2020.

Following the tour is pretty cool, that should be fun.  But San Fran then La then Seattle?  That's a bit of a back and forth.

So far, the only thing on the books is:

Alter Bridge

>>>When the next leg of Geoff Tate's Empire/Rage for Order tour is announced, I'll go see that. And I have some hope that Fates Warning might tour, which is of course a no-brainer for me. But it might be a light 2020 for me overall.

- Billy Corgan (if he still does those shows in NY)

His last show is tonight  :lol He has said he won't do anymore acoustic solo shows since the crowds on occasion haven't been very respectful towards him.  I got myself a ticket to the sold out show tonight just this morning.  He's been so awesome at these that I don't want to miss the last one.  He did say he might tour by himself again, just with an electric guitar to drown out the audience.  I've been kind of obsessing with him and Smashing Pumpkins lately, watching interviews and stuff.  His Joe Rogan interview is great.  Guy is so interesting.  Even watched Breaking the Band on SP last night which is a cool show if you ever see it on TV (it's been on my DVR for months).

FLIP.  For some reason I thought they were in March.

Blonde moment, I guess.  I'm not making that show tonight (said the guy who hasn't showered yet and is in his house in Connecticut).  :)

The local amphitheater a couple miles from my house is doing a one day sale next week.  200 bucks for a season pass for the lawn. I may bite on this.  There's usually 30-40 shows a summer there, of which 5-10 I am usually interested in.  If its 5, thats 40 a ticket and not a great deal, but if its 10, thats 20 bucks and cheaper than any individal lawn ticket for a show.  But it works for all sold out shows too.  I'm thinking if I got this, I may end up checking out even more shows though.  Also, fi I want a seat, they offer seat upgrades for $20 in the app, so if they announce a band I want to see in better seats, I can upgrade.

As of now, they have four concerts announced, The Black Crowes, The Doobie Brothers, Alanis Morrisette with Garbage, and Journey with the Pretenders.  Journey was on my list of want to see already, but if I had the pass and was free that night, I'd go to all four of these shows.

Hey Cramx.  On the topic about the whole season pass, how did you reserve yours for your local amphitheater?  I did some stumbling and it turns out that FivePoint Amphitheater may have it.

http://livenationpremiumtickets.com/venue/33640/fivepoint-amphitheatre

Do I fill in season seats or lawn pass and they will get back to me on how to pay it?  The problem is that I rather not fill anything out until I see a price amount, otherwise, I may get hit with spam I may not like.

Edit: Oh nvm, there's a different link that shows the $200.00 prices and the amphitheaters available that has it and Fivepoint does not have it.  I tried.

Squeeze (well, Difford and Tillbrook, in a songbook format)
The Musical Box

Kicking around British Lion.   Could go either way... :)

Yeah, I've seen TMB now I think three times.  I get to see them at a small theater (500 seats) and I get pretty decent seats (always within the first four rows or so).   It's one of the few shows I go to to just kick back and zone out to the music.  I buy a wine, take my seat and usually close my eyes for the hour, forty-five or so (I've seen the visuals and they are great, but it's about the music for me).

Do you know anything about "The Genesis Show" tour/band/show? It's another tribute band, and they are doing I think the Abacab tour; that's in January, but I might go if I can make it (it's a tough time right after the holidays).

Ok, time to get a marker down, see how I do in living up to my aspirations this year...

So far, the intriguing shows are...

Haken/DTP
Caligula's Horse
Dragonforce
Jinjer

The first two are absolutes, the second two are iffy to pretty sure. Just checked on tix for Jinjer, and LiveNation had the balls to put 20 bucks of service fees on a 29 dollar ticket. Fuckers.

Lots of concert announcements lately, especially for the summer amphitheater shows that are starting to slowly roll out.  I'm starting to feel happy I bought that $200 lawn pass.  My list is starting to populate and make me feel excited for the year to come.  The ones with ??? are going to have to be decided closer to the date

January 12th - Epica and Starkill @ Webster Hall, New York City, NY
January 30th - Sleeping With Sirens @ Starland Ballroom, Sayreville NJ
February 6th - Sons of Apollo @ Gramercy Theatre, New York City NY
February 11th - The Used @  Gramercy Theatre, New York City NY ??? - sold out and expensive
February 15th - Queensryche and John 5 @ Starland Ballroom, Sayreville NJ
February 19th - Live @ Count Basie Theatre, Red Bank NJ
February 29th - Devin Townsend and Haken @ Warsaw, Brooklyn NY ??? - sold out and expensive
March 13th - Rome & Duddy Friends and Family Acoustic @ Bergen Performing Arts Center, Englewood NJ ??? - we'll see if I want to go
April 10th - Bad Religion & Alkaline Trio @ Convention Hall, Asbury Park NJ
April 24th - Godsmack/Halestorm/Theory of a Deadman/Dirty Honey/Dinosaur Pile-up @ Prudential Center, Newark NJ
May 2nd - Volbeat & Gojira @ GIANT Center, Hershey PA
May 14th - Symphony X, Primal Fear, Firewind @ Bergen Performing Arts Center, Englewood NJ ??? - we'll see if I want to go
May 16th - MMR.B.Q. Festival (Disturbed, Sublime with Rome, The Pretty Reckless, The Hu…) @ BB&T Pavillion, Camden NJ
May 27th - Caligulas Horse @ Gramercy Theater, New York City NY
June 22nd - Ozzy and Megadeth @ Madison Square Garden, New York City NY
July 28th - Bon Jovi and Bryan Adams @ Madison Square Garden, New York City NY

September 9-12th - ProgPower USA @ Center Stage, Atlanta GA
October 17th - Hammerfall and Beast in Black @ Gramercy Theatre, New York City NY

And the first concert of 2020 was last weekend when Epica finished their 10th Anniversary of Design Your Universe tour.  What a blast, they sounded maybe the best out of the 4 times I've seen them.  They are often too loud, but everything sounded really good including Simone who was amazing as always.  I also love how Simone interacted with me a few times on twitter the days before and after the show  Anyway, I got the mosh pit really going once they played the Obsessive Devotion and that was a FUN night.  Great way to start a new year!

Scooped up a pit ticket just now for this festival on a saturday in south NJ

Weird for Sublime with Rome (reggae rock) to be on the bill with mostly metal/hard rock, but I've always loved their shows and original music so that's a win for me to see them right before Disturbed PLUS all those other bands including The Hu  :metal :metal

Debating about buying a pit ticket (or settle for a cheaper seat) for this other radio station festival:

which would leave me with seeing Dirty Honey twice so I've only heard about them but never listened.  I'll have to check them out.

I saw Dirty Honey open for Alter Bridge in Raleigh.   They were all right.  If you liked Greta Van Fleet, you might like these guys as well.

Anywho, I saw this on Groupon and thought why not as usual?

Matchbox Twenty - FivePoint Amphitheater - Irvine, CA. September 24th, 2020.

I saw Rob Thomas last year at the Greek Theater in LA and I liked his set.  Naturally, the Matchbox Twenty songs got the best reactions of the night, so this was an easy call.  Tickets were only $30.00, in Row 30 of the 300 sections.  Yep, not really the greatest of rows to be on.  If Live Nation does their annual National Concert week and have $20 seats and has this show, and if I see a lower row like 15 or lower going for that price, I may buy the extra ticket and list the Row 30 seat.  We'll see.

Anywho, my list so far.  Not a lot of shows to start the year compared to last year.  Mainly due to getting ready to travel up the West Coast, ticket prices, some minor financial setbacks that I can bounce back on, and the fact that I don't want to travel to either LA or Inglewood as much.  There's only one show at the Forum that I may consider going to, but tickets are like $70+ for the nosebleed seats: FFDP, Papa Roach, I Prevail, and Ice Nine Kills.

Alter Bridge with Clint Lowery and Deepfall opening - The Regency Ballroom - San Francisco, CA. February 23rd, 2020.
Alter Bridge with Clint Lowery and Deepfall opening - The Wiltern Theater - Los Angeles, CA. February 24th, 2020.
Alter Bridge with Clint Lowery and Deepfall opening - The Moore Theater - Seattle, WA. February 26th, 2020.
Alter Bridge with Clint Lowery and Deepfall opening - The Knitting Factory - Spokane, WA. February 27th, 2020.
Shinedown - The Wiltern Theater - Los Angeles, CA. May 14th, 2020.
Matchbox Twenty - FivePoint Amphitheater - Irvine, CA. September 24th, 2020.

That's where it sucks your venue didn't offer the summer pass, that Matchbox 20 show is coming to me and it's on my "if I'm home and available, I'll go" concerts for the summer.  Might be adding Halsey to that list as well.  The summer tours are starting to trickle out and I'm getting excited for every announcement as it essentially fills up my summer plans.  Today they announced the country pass, 7 country shows for $400 lawn tickets  :lol meanwhile my whole summer lawn ticket was $200.  Sucks for those country fans who didn't eat up the whole summer pass before they announced the bands.  Maybe I'll check out Tim McGraw... just because I can.

First show of the year is in the books, Umphrey's McGee at the Beacon in NYC. Great show as usual from them, and because it was their first concert since Neil passed they brought out a guest female vocalist for a killer cover of Anthem to close their first set. February is going to be a busy month for shows

February 6th- Sons of Apollo @ Gramercy Theater New York NY
February 16th- Periphery/Plini @ Brooklyn Steel Brooklyn NY
February 20th- British Lion @ Gramercy Theater New York NY
February 22nd- Opeth @ The Apollo Theater Harlem NY
February 27th- Christone "Kingfish" Ingram @ Brooklyn Bowl Brooklyn NY
February 29th- Devin Townsend/Haken @ The Warsaw, Brooklyn NY

Cram, are you still potentially going to the Boston Haken/Devin Townsend show? I'm thinking about it.

Do you have tickets for the brooklyn show or boston? I dont and both are sold out and ridiculously expensive on the 2nd market. I'd love to go to both, right now I'm considering going to Philly. I dont know, I dont want to miss the tour but I'm not paying a crazy price either.

Me neither, discovered this same hard truth when I went to actually go buy tickets for all those shows shortly after making the post :lol Boston is probably off the table now, may have to see if I can work something out for the Brooklyn show. And then I'm strongly considering traveling to St. Louis and/or New Orleans to catch a couple of their headlining shows in March.

Ooo boy.  This show got announced yesterday.  Day after Matchbox Twenty in the same venue.  This is part of Nickelback's All The Right Reasons album 15th Anniversary tour which features a lot of their big hits (Photograph, Savin Me, Far Away, If Everyone Cared, etc.) so tickets may be hard to obtain on the cheap.  I always wanted to see Nickelback at some point in time if tickets look reasonable.  Having Switchfoot opening is a nice added bonus (even if I saw them at their own shows twice last year, both great shows) and having STP on it as well is another added bonus as a curio.  Here's to hoping.

Nickelback with Stone Temple Pilots and Switchfoot opening - FivePoint Amphitheater - Irvine, CA. September 25th, 2020.

The list is pretty dry right now, hopefully more interesting stuff gets announced as the year progresses. There's this Sons of Apollo show in March but I didn't like the new album at all, so I'll pass on that.

May ??th - Soen (exact date should be announced soon)
May 27th - Nightwish
July 2nd - Iron Maiden
October 2nd to 4th - ProgPower Europe 2020

Iron Maiden and Nightwish has me jelly.  I don't expect IM dates in the US this year but I'm still hoping for a Nightwish tour.

More and more summer shows being announced included that Nickelback/STP show Anguyen mentioned.  I may go to that if I can, not really a fan of either but could be a fun night if it works out that I'm home.  Also Dave Mathews Band announced for my amphitheater, another "if I'm home, I'll go" type of show.

I see Slipknot are being announced for some US festival shows, I really hope they come around again this year.  I definitely want to see more of their newest songs live which they are doing now in Europe.

Yeah hopefully they come your way soon. They skipped us on Decades tour so my last Nightwish show was during EFMB tour, like four or five years ago? Looking forward to this one, just hoping the album will be good.

ProgPower Europe should be amazing tbh, The Dear Hunter, Wilderun and Green Carnation and a couple of fantastic smaller bands are already announced and there are more bands coming (none of them ever come to Russia so that will be my first time seeing all of them live), so far that's looking up to be my event of the year.

I'm not really familiar with the Euro progpower, but if it's anything like the environment of the US version, I'm not sure I need the bands to be known for me to want to go.  It's fun to just be with a group of similar musically minded people, plus the US version is a huge party atmosphere.

Well, got an email from Live Nation on their Holiday Hangover deal where tickets are $25 (with fees included).  Nabbed this ticket.  Two bands that I know a good amount of songs and liked a fair amount of their stuff, but not really wowed by their catalog as a whole.  Still, a cheap ticket for a good show is always a sign for a good night out.  Also, it's a new venue I've never been to as well (although it is next to the Belasco Theater which I liked when I saw Nothing More last year).  I wonder if Cristina Scabbia will perform that one song she did with Apocalyptica for this tour.  I also saw that Devin Townsend had a show in LA that was also listed for this deal as well, but I got the notice too late and tickets under that deal ran out.  Oh well.

Apocalyptica with Lacuna Coil - Mayan Theater - Los Angeles, CA. May 11th, 2020.

I also got the ticket for the Nickelback/STP/Switchfoot show as well.  $43.00 for a row four spot in the farthest from the left section of the 300 sections.  I saw that this is also on Groupon for $30.00, but that gets me like a Row 25-30 seat and honestly, this might the case where I wouldn't mind paying a bit extra for a lower row section if it's reasonable which is surprisingly for a Live Nation/Ticketmaster Amphitheater show.

Oh dear, even with some minor financial hardships, I can't stop resisting buying concert tickets.  When you see tickets listed for under $30.00 for good shows on Groupon, you can't stop.

Alice Cooper with Tesla and Lita Ford opening.  Hollywood Bowl - Los Angeles, CA. May 31st, 2020.

I mean a nice day out in the LA area at a venue like Hollywood Bowl on a Sunday is always a sign for a good time.  I know Cramx had a great time seeing Alice Cooper last year, and seeing his thoughts about it convinced me to take a chance with this ticket.  Don't know how Tesla or Lita Ford is nowadays, but I know they fit well with Alice Cooper, so this should be a good night.  Probably will take the shuttle again for $12.00 for the roundtrip.  I just hope I don't endure traveling 6 miles in the span of an hour like I did with The Who last October during those times of those fires near that area.

Who needs to see Motley Crue suck pants for $100+ a ticket when you got Alice Cooper playing a show with tickets on the cheap.

I may also consider seeing Pearl Jam at the Forum in April as well, but those tickets are really expensive so I will wait it out.

Alice Cooper puts on a great show plus watching Nita on guitar is always exciting.  I saw Tesla last year for the first time, I was never into them before and I'm not all of the sudden a big fan after seeing them, but they sounded pretty good and it was fun overall.  I'm excited to have them as an opener, will make the whole night even better.  I don't know much about Lita Ford so that'll be a new experience for me (assuming I can get there in time).

Dang it all.  The more and more shows that keeps being announced at FivePoint Amphitheater, the more I really wished Live Nation offered that $200+ season pass for that venue.   Would have been nice to see Sammy Hagar & The Circle and Whitesnake as a curio, but it's not really something I'm willing to actually buy a separate ticket for.

I would actually want to go see Disturbed and Staind (more on Staind since I never seen them, even though I liked seeing Disturbed at the Forum last year), but much like Nickelback and Matchbox 20, I would have to wait to see if I can get a ticket on the cheap (though I probably would wait to see where my finances stand in like two weeks before pulling the trigger).

I caved.  Got a ticket for the Disturbed and Staind show.  It was on Groupon for $35.00 in the 300 sections and I think it's probably the best seat that I have gotten in all of the shows at FivePoint Amphitheater so far.  I think I'm going to be as centered in view of the stage in the bleacher seats from the left side of the 300 sections as I'm going to get and it's a Row 2 spot.  As mentioned before, I liked Disturbed when I saw them at the Forum last year.  Bad Wolves were good as well when they opened for Papa Roach, last August and Staind should be an interesting treat to see since I think this is their first big tour in a long while.  The downside is that this show in the GA sections are seats which seems a bit wrong for a show like this since I know Disturbed and Bad Wolves had some pretty good movement going around in the crowds.

Had an awesome time last Thursday at what was a punk/pop show.  I was definitely one of the older people there, as this music at this venue draws a very young crowd and also tons of teen girls.  You can hear the girl screams in my video  :lol There were four bands but I got at the end of the second band so I really didn't get to see them to say much, they seemed a bit more on the hardcore side of things, but the 3rd band was called Set it Off.  I had only started listening to them the day before, they are pretty much flat out pop and honestly have a bunch of really catchy fun songs.  They played for about 45 minutes and what sucked the most is that the songs sound like a full band, but live it was just drums and guitar so at least half the music was piped in which really sucks and for me, typically sucks the life out of a live show.  However, the crowd LOVED them, so damn energetic for this band.  The singer was really solid too, very entertaining and so into it.  They put on a good show, but it was hard to really love the music as it seemed both the drummer and guitarist were kind of garbage performers.  It was a one man show really with the singer but the crazy crowd made that set really fun.

Headliners were Sleeping with Sirens.  I stood in my spot near the side stage for their entrance which worked perfectly as the singer came out and chilled there for a few minutes before hitting the stage.  He came by and I gave him a solid high five, all caught on video right before the whole band went out and hit the stage https://twitter.com/Cramx3/status/1223634387113271300 (https://twitter.com/Cramx3/status/1223634387113271300)  So awesome, this is definitely one of my favorite parts about this venue and once they are on stage, I move around for the better view.  I spent about half the set in the pit too, the energy was still there from Set it Off, there was a nice big pit and tons of crowd surfers.  Very active crowd and energetic performance.  They sounded really tight too, thought the singer sounded great especially after reading his voice isn't as good anymore.... seemed on point to me (and in my videos).  I made it right to the front at the end as well.  Just couldn't of asked for a better time that night, awesome concert and while only 2 shows in this year for the first month, I feel it's been a great start for 2020 (the high five is already on my 2020 top 10 concert moments list)

:tup to be honest, having seen them twice, unless its a dud of a show, I doubt I'd write a bad review, especially from a MP show in NYC.  I wouldnt be surprised if some family were in the audience as well.  I can likely say, that if you enjoy good musicianship and showmen, you'd probably like the show even if you don't like the albums.  It's definitely something fun to do if you are looking for a night out.  But I'll have more to say on Friday

Coheed & Cambria has announced a NA tour.  Playing in both Riverside and LA in May.  Yeah, I'll do my best to make it to one of these shows.  Both venues hosted there are fantastic places to be in.  I know i'm not going to be as lucky paying $18.00 on Groupon for the ticket (where the bill also had Mastodon), but somewhere around $50.00 will make me a happy buyer.

And I got the Coheed & Cambria ticket via presale.  I opted to do the Riverside show instead of LA.  It's going to be the same amount of traffic either way on a weekday in May.  At least, in Riverside, parking will be cheaper at around $5.00 and the tickets is slightly cheaper for GA at $53.00 (same price I paid in seats for a Switchfoot show at another venue in Riverside close by this venue) instead of $59.00 at the Wiltern.  Plus, there's a nice food court next to the venue in Riverside so that's another plus. My May is getting pretty darn loaded.  Plus, System of a Down/Korn/Faith No More is doing a one-time show in the Banc of California Stadium on May 22nd as well.  Don't think I can get tickets on the cheap if it's a one-time show.  Edit: Yeah, I just checked the presale for the SOAD show.  It's $84.00 fees included for the worst seats.  Iron Maiden was cheaper than that for the worst seats in the same venue (around $71.00), but SOAD has bigger named support in Korn and Faith No More and Helmet so that's a big factor in price as well.  This is a hard pass.

Goo Goo Dolls and Lifehouse with Forest Blakk opening - Greek Theater - Los Angeles, CA. September 5th, 2020.

Jebus.  My September is so full of late 90s/00s alt rock and metal stuff.  I can't help it.  I like that sort of stuff.  Also, I had a email at 11 AM from Groupon stating that they had tickets for that Incubus and 311 show at Fivepoint.  Two hours later, I found out about the show, Groupon didn't have those tickets anymore.  Guess, I'll wait it out in other outlets if I can get a good seat on the cheap.

2020 Shows:

January 24 - Sons of Apollo in Pomona - Sorry but didn't really enjoy the show. Vocalist was kinda annoying too IMO.
February 4 - American Authors, Public in HOB Anaheim - I won the tickets. Would not see American Authors again, I would pay to see Public again though
February 5 - Silversun Pickups, Eliza and the Delusionals, Cuffed Up in Santa Ana Observatory - Silversun pickups was amazing. Cuffed Up is a new band and interesting I would definitely see them again.
February 8 - Dashboard Confessional in HOB Anaheim - Another good show.
March 4 - Opeth in Hollywood palladium
April 2 - Airborne Toxic Event in El Rey Theatre
May 13 - Coheed and Cambria in Riverside
May 14 - Lovelytheband in Santa Ana Observatory
July 24 - Green Day, Weezer, Fallout Boy in San Diego
September 24 - Matchbox 20 in Irvine
September 25 - Nickelback in Irvine

I said I was going to cut back this year but it looks like that is not going to happen. I haven't even included 2 shows that I can't go to because of a family vacation.  :metal

The venue for the Coheed show will be a different venue on the same street but a few blocks east of the venue. I actually like it more for metal shows since it is mostly GA standing.

Now that should be an amazing show.

Yup, that show is coming to my local amphitheater as well, and on a Saturday  :metal :metal

From last week, in case you don't follow the Sons of Apollo thread, the show was an awesome display of musicianship, especially guitar when you consider Tony MacAlpine was the opener and he also performed during the encore of a cover of Deep Purple's Burn.  That was definitely one of the highlights of the night.

Sons of Apollo and Tony MacAlpine LIVE @ Gramercy Theater NYC (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W4uDIE_3ans)

also, on a whim, decided to go see Thrice last night at my local ballroom.  Pretty packed show, not sold out, but definitely more people than some of the previous shows I've seen there.  Funny, there was a big pit... with only one person going wild in it.  Seemed like a lot of couples were out for a date night or something and the one sweaty guy going wild was what everyone was avoiding  :rollin worked perfect for me, I went into the pit and just pushed him and walked to dead center near the end of the set and got a guitar pick  :metal  I expect to have my full video up tonight

next up:

February 15th - Queensryche and John 5 @ Starland Ballroom, Sayreville NJ

just added:

June 20th - Megadeth, Lamb of God, Trivium, and In Flames @ PNC Bank Arts Center, Holmdel NJ

Updated list for the ones I am for sure I'm going to.

6/8/2020 - Symphony X w/ Primal Fear, Firewind
7/20/2020 - Megadeth w/ Lamb of God, Trivium, In Flames
7/22/2020 - Incubus w/ 311
8/5/2020 - Deftones w/ Gojira, Poppy

Really looking forward to all of these bands. After checking out Poppy live, they seem to be a good opener to liven up the crowd before Gojira.

I wrote full reviews in the QR thread, but the concert was really fun last night.  I thought John 5 was awesome and really elevated the show as a whole, fairly good turn out.

Queensryche and John 5 Live at Starland Ballroom NJ (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B86vF7v02Lk)

Got a pic with the QR drummer and former Kamelot drummer Casey Grillo, also bought a John 5 signed mask  :metal

Next concert is this Wednesday, Live (the band) @ Count Basie Theater

Cool. It still is weird seeing them as a 4 piece. My 2nd time seeing them without a Bassist. The first time, Nolly was having Visa issues.

Dang, I wished I had Black Stone Cherry and Saint Asonia opening for Alter Bridge in the shows I'm going to next week.  My May's already too loaded to consider flying out to one of those shows.

Primus is a definite possibility depending on ticket prices.  Korn + Faith No More is also a possibility at FivePoint which may be more tempting than paying a lot more and traveling a lot further to see them with System of A Down in LA.

7/10 - Primus - Chicago Theatre

Tried for Rage tix but they were ridiculous. Probably won't see much due to money issues. Have to be selective this year.

Saw the band Live on Wednesday night.  My third time seeing them, but first time seeing them at "their" show as in, not the opener or not part of a big touring package.  It was just them, in a theater.  No opener either.  The venue was sold out, I expected a solid set... they played for 75 minutes.  WTF?  Went on at 8:15 and were done at 9:30.  I don't get it.  Having said that, I think it was their best show I've seen of them.  They sounded really good and for once, the setlist was seemingly random.  In fact they didn't play a few of the hit songs and did some deep cuts instead.  Even though they dropped my favorite All Over You, I really enjoyed seeing some different songs instead.  Felt fresh even though it truly wasn't.  The other part that sucked was their encore included TWO cover songs.  The first cover of Velvet Undergrounds Venus in Furs was a real buzz kill.  They finished with Lakini's Juice which got the crowd really into it (including myself, that was the best part of the show) and then it was over.  I was a bit shocked.  The people next to me were as well, a bit of WTF? went through the crowd before the lights went on and everyone left.

No All Over You, Dolphin's Cry, or Heaven  :omg:

Oh well, it was a short night but very fun and my ticket in the last row was pretty cheap.  Brought a date and we had a good time.

Huh, I was having dinner in Atlanta the other night and just started shooting the shit with this guy who was talking Priest, and later in the conversation he mentioned Sabaton.  Small world.

Anyway, I saw Squeeze the other night; what a great band.   I was clapping and singing along the whole show.  And Glenn Tillbrook, despite not being a snappy dresser, is a WAY underrated guitar player.

(I'm having trouble with Imgur, but I'll put up a picture or two when I get that cleared up).

I'm here at Dweezil Zappa Hot Rats live. Last minute decision, good thing I got the tickets when I did. I bought the last one. Should be a good show.

Edit: And it was a damn good show. Some funny moments where the band did a jam with the drummer being Chewbacca, Keyboardist doing Predator noise, and the female multi-instrumentalist doing a darn good Cartman impersonation.

Saw Leprous yesterday on their second European leg of the Pitfalls Tour. I've seen them five times over the last two years and they keep getting better each time. While the last albums are definitely a different musical direction they still bring the same energy and stage performance while they sound fantastic and the lights add an extra dimension.

I was pretty skeptic about Pitfalls but right now I consider it their best and most consistent album with The Sky is Red being their best song.

Well, I finished my West Coast run of seeing Alter Bridge four times.  All shows were good, some were tremendous, and one of them was indeed the greatest concert I've been to of my life and one where I accidentally struck someone on the head with my wrist (where I profusely apologize).

Anywho, I'm done with traveling for now.  I may contemplate flying to New Jersey in May to see Alter Bridge with Black Stone Cherry and Saint Asonia, as there are some fans there that I always wanted to meet in addition to the great support, but that's a we'll see kind of thing.

Also saw last Friday that Five Finger Death Punch to commemorate their new album being out, that they are having tickets go under $30.00 total (fees included) for some of their shows.  This also included their show at the Forum and I've been waiting for something like this to pop out so that I can purchase a ticket on the cheap.

Five Finger Death Punch with Papa Roach, I Prevail, and Ice Nine Kills - The Forum - Inglewood, CA.  April 21st, 2020.

Not really a huge FFDP fan, but I'm hopeful that they put on a good energetic show and that the crowd should be a fun one to be in.  Liked seeing Papa Roach and I Prevail when I saw them last year and I liked a few Ice Nine Kills songs and I'm hoping they have good aesthetics to go with their horror-based songs.  Should be a fun night for a cheap ticket and expensive parking ($30.00 for parking at the Forum is too excessive for me).

Five Finger Death Punch with Papa Roach, I Prevail, and Ice Nine Kills - The Forum - Inglewood, CA.  April 21st, 2020.
Apocalyptica with Lacuna Coil - Mayan Theater - Los Angeles, CA. May 11th, 2020.
Coheed & Cambria with Chon opening - Riverside Municipal Auditorium - Riverside, CA.  May 13th, 2020
Shinedown - The Wiltern Theater - Los Angeles, CA. May 14th, 2020.
Alice Cooper with Tesla and Lita Ford opening.  Hollywood Bowl - Los Angeles, CA. May 31st, 2020.
Disturbed and Staind with Bad Wolves opening - FivePoint Amphitheater - Irvine, CA. September 2nd, 2020.
Goo Goo Dolls and Lifehouse with Forest Blakk opening - Greek Theater - Los Angeles, CA. September 5th, 2020.
Matchbox Twenty - FivePoint Amphitheater - Irvine, CA. September 24th, 2020.
Nickelback with Stone Temple Pilots and Switchfoot opening - FivePoint Amphitheater - Irvine, CA. September 25th, 2020.

I encourage coming to the dirty jersey

Was this your first experience touring with a band?  It's so cool to get to see a few shows in different places and experience the vibes and all that cool stuff, even better when the shows have different sets.

I saw Devin Townsend / Haken / The Contortionist last Saturday in Brooklyn, such an awesome show and I wrote up plenty about it in the Devin thread, but I'm going again tomorrow in Philly and took time off work for this so it's like a mini vacation and mini tour with the band.  Devin's been changing things up each night to keep it interesting too, plus the support bands make this show super awesome.  Philly is actually the first show of this tour that isn't sold out so I'm interested in experiencing the vibe.

Part of that vibe is the food.  In Brooklyn the place was run by Polish people in the Polish area of Brooklyn so there were plenty of good looking bartenders, delicious Polish foods, and Polish beer.  All were good although the place felt a bit like there was a Polish mob watching over... Cash only and some interesting characters  :lol but overall really awesome and I'd totally go back.  In Philly the show is right on South St. known for the Philly Cheesesteaks so I guess that's for dinner tomorrow compared to the pierogies and kielbasa the other night.  Also since I took the day off from work Ill get there early and explore the historic stuff too (which I've done before but I love adding these travel vlog type things to my youtube videos).

My most up to date concert list (and one concert conflict I just realized ugh)  I have a summer pass for PNC Bank Arts Center so some more might happen and some might not happen, we will see.  I seriously might go to Backstreet Boys for example but it's not on this list  :lol

Yep, first time following a tour with a band.  Was pretty fun.  Did some sightseeing, ate at some good places, bought a cheap day pass bus tickets in the respective cities I was at.  I wasn't the only guy that did it for these shows.  I recognized like 5-10 other people that was following Alter Bridge on tour, during this leg, in the shows I was at.  Heck, some of them were doing more than the four shows I was doing.  Some of them came from Europe as well.  It's very nice to have that camaraderie.  Helps makes the shows even more worthwhile than they already are and the band did at least 1-3 song changes a night so, at least, I get to hear at least one different song a night.

Sigh....., son of a beesting.  Breaking Benjamin announced a new tour and they are playing at FivePoint Amphitheater in Irvine for the 3rd straight year in a row.  They got Bush, Theory of a Deadman, and Saint Asonia as support.  Well, I missed my chance to see them last year.  I'm not missing this chance right now.  The day after seeing Goo Goo Dolls in LA.  I can make that work.  For once, I will not get tickets right away on Groupon.  I'm going to be patient and wait it out for a good seat at a cheap price on Stubhub.  I saw a good cheap seat in last year's show.  It's bound to happen once again.

Came here to add the same, that show is coming to my local venue as well.  The same venue also put for sale "ticket to rock" for $69 before fees for lawn and you get four of the rock concerts this summer.  My $200 pass for all shows is looking like a great value now especcially since the country mega ticket is about the same price  :lol  sorry to rub that in Anguyen  but also, that's cool you started recognizing people.  That's part of the fun too and how I ended up becoming friends with some of the smashing pumpkins biggest fans, by seeing the same people over and over at the Billy Corgan shows last fall.

Debating about seeing Skillet tonight at my local ballroom.  Seems I can get a ticket at the door for face value (or maybe better if some tickets drop on stubhub before the show).  Kind of dig their male/female vocals and up beat fun rock music.  They are totally new to me, but seems like something fun to do tonight.

I say go see Skillet, Cramx.  Saw them last September with Sevendust and they had a fun show with good production values for a small theater show and they put on a good set.  Singalongs were very prominent.  I think their drummer and occasional lead vocalist, Jen Ledger, has a solo project that's been opening these shows as well and it's more in the veins of electronic pop music, but I enjoyed her EP that she had out.

I wanted to see Skillet last February in Anaheim, but I was already committed to see Alter Bridge in San Francisco on the same day.

So with all this coronavirus going about, I still decided to check out Skillet at my local ballroom the other night.  It was pretty packed.  Unlike some of the more recent shows, the full ballroom was open and not much room to get around for me.  I got there relatively late, seemed I was the last one to arrive.  It was mostly families with their kids which is a bit different for me, but I guess it's because Skillet are christian rock?  I don't know, they are a new band to me so this was all a new experience.  I stood in my spot that I like at this venue and got fist bumps from everyone in the band right before they hit the stage  :metal  The performance was good... but I got to ask, was any of it real?  It all sounded a bit muddy but on point, including the female vocals where it didn't look like she was actually singing?  She certainly was a beauty to watch though.  The singer often wasn't playing bass either and the female guitarist shifted between her keyboard and guitar and yet you could hear the keyboard even when she was playing guitar.  This was kind of a turn off for me.  Felt like a kind of fake performance, although it was definiteyl fun and energetic.  I don't know how I feel here in terms of performance, it's not like anything they did was even technical.  I overheard someone next to me say this is "family designed rock" and I couldn't help but agree.  I do like a lot of there songs though so it didn't ruin the show by any means, but it made me not respect the band as much as I would have liked.  The stage show was top notch though especially for this venue which doesn't have the biggest stage.  The guitarists at one point had her head in the ceiling because of how low it is and yet they used these stands that lifted them up in one song  :lol  They also had a cellist for a bunch of songs which was really cool but it I also couldn't tell if any of it was real.  It all sounded too legit without a single note heard outside of the song.  At the end of their set and went back to my spot and got more fist bumps as they left the stage except the singer/bassist actually put his hand out so I adjusted my fist and shook his hand as he says to me "later bud" which I'm glad my camera picked up  :metal

Fun concert, but I'm not entirely sure I respect them as live performers.  The show came off more as entertainment vs. a musical performance.

I didn't have much time to actually watch my video yet to see if I can pick up on the musicianship as I had to quickly put this together before returning to work tonight, but here it is:

Skillet - Live @ Starland Ballroom NJ (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N8uebKdk_I0)

Overall for $30 flat and nothing else going on a tuesday night locally, I enjoyed myself.  I think my favorite part of the whole show was the "later bud" comment from the singer  :lol

So I got that "in before the lock" as everything comes to a standstill here from the coronavirus.  Not sure if Fridays acoustic concert is still going to happen (it's selling poorly so it can't be considered a mass gathering) but next week's Unleash the Archers show I feel is definitely up for cancellation, and considering one more week of this and who knows where we will be.  I hope that's not the case, but it seems pretty likely now.  Luckily, after that, I had nothing on my calendar for a month so I'm really hoping there will not be more impact of concert cancellations from all this but I don't feel too hopeful at the moment.

Yeah, I can see the criticism in regards to Skillet's live sound and there are times you would question which parts are actually live and which parts are more "backing" tracks.  I don't think it's as blatant as when Shinedown get these kinds of comments (especially when it comes to vocalist Brent Smith).

Reminds me when Skillet and Alter Bridge did their co-headlining tour, last fall, and people's thoughts regarding both bands was that Skillet was the spectacle/showmanship kind of band with their production values and Alter Bridge was the more "technically"-sound/focusing on musicianship playing kind of band.  Same case can be said as well when Skillet and Sevendust (with Sevendust filling the musicianship role) did their tour last summer.  Of course, everyone found those bands very engaging in different ways and approaches to deliver a live set which made for some great nights.

Still, I enjoyed Skillet's set, last Summer, and I didn't emphasize wanting to see them more for their musicianship.  I was there moreso for the songs and some solid production values and general family-friendly fun times.

Yea, it was fun in it's own way and everyone was really into it, nice big loud crowd... but after seeing Devin Townsend's show last week with no backing tracks and everything going off feel, I just really find that type of show much more engaging and interesting than the full production type of show even if it is visually awesome.

I hope we see lots of other bands do this, but at 7PM EST, Dropkick Murphys are live streaming a concert with no audience as they cannot perform with a crowd for their annual St. Pattys day shows in Boston.  It will be free on all their social media accounts

Got my summer pass in the mail for my local amphitheater around the corner from my house

and they just announced it's opening it's lots for drive through coronavirus testing.  Does my summer pass allow me to skip the line?  If I were to be in a case that I needed testing, I'd totally wear that to keep a joking spirit in these shit times.

I knew this was happening.  Five Finger Death Punch, Shinedown, and Apocalyptica/Lacuna Coil had rescheduled their shows from April/May to later in the year or going into early 2021.  Bummer.  I wonder if I will go to any shows that I have planned in May.  Probably not, but here's to hoping still.

I'm kind of waiting for Maiden and Rammstein to cancel their Sweden dates. As someone mentioned, it's probably for contract reasons they're waiting, they let the festivals and the gov. do the first move however I don't know how festival contracts for bands are drawn.

Just bought my first tickets in months:

July 2nd - Long Distance Calling in Oberhausen (Germany) - it's a live show in a Car-Arena which means we will watch the show from our car. New experience worth trying. At least I can bring my own drinks and have a badass IPA for the price of a regular beer :)

December 19th - Dool in Eindhoven

Citizens Bank Park (where the Phillys play) looks like they are opening up the parking lot to a series of drive in concerts in August... and there's one I might be interested in going to.  I need my live music fix and I'm intrigued as to how this works out, but I'm like 90% sure I want to go at this point.

So after wiping my entire 2020 concert schedule, I am tentatively adding one!  :metal :metal (even though this music is not metal at all)

August 19th - AJR @ Citizens Bank Park Parking Lot Drive In, Philadelphia PA

This thread hasn't aged well at all :lol

I'm still hoping to see something before the year ends, but I'm not counting on it. No concert plans for this year on the horizon so far. Basically the whole 2020 is apparently postponed.

Yea, this thread is depressing.  I didn't expect to see another show in 2020 and while it's not my favorite band or anything, I'm actually excited to maybe see a live performance from a national touring artist again, even if it is from my car (I have no idea how this actually works out), but my car does have a moon roof so maybe I can stand on the seat and stick my head out  :lol

I wanted to experience one of those drive-in shows and there was one at the National City Grove of Anaheim parking lot (which is next to Angels Stadium) a few weeks back.  Tickets for a parking spot was $200.00 though.  It was for Andrew McMahon and the Wilderness.  Not really the kind of thing you want to go alone in terms of getting bang for your buck.  That's for certain.

At least that's an option if anyone wants to. I think we have a few similar events next months for some local well-known artists but hey, I don't own a car. :)

Yea, so I found the presale code and the GA back lot is 150 before fees and the front lot is 200.  A bit expensive for a single person, but the idea is you can have 4 people in the car.  So the math is actually quite a bit cheaper than the single ticket I bought to see them last year if you got four people in on it.  If I go, I'll be going with my girl so between the two of us, it's not the most expensive show.  I'm definitely curious for the experience, plus just the itch to really want to see a live show.  At this point, I'm leaning towards going still even with the price tag.  Might hot box my car too  :hat  :lol

So that concert sold out right away and I wasn't paying second hand prices for that, I was only borderline wanting to go anyway.

But I spent a good amount of time yesterday planning my vacation in a couple weeks and pulled the trigger on buying this drive in concert:

October 2nd - Skillet @ Circle Drive In, Scranton PA

It was pretty expensive but I'm making this my final stop in my road trip through the northeast US (states I'm allowed to travel to and from without quarantining).  I like these type of symbolic moments because while I don't love Skillet, they were the last concert I attended March 10th of 2020.  My last concert moment was shaking all of the band members hands as they walked off stage and the singer saying "later bud" to me.  It only feels right to see them again albeit in a much different scenario.  Since I spent so much already on the ticket, said fuck it, I'll get the merch bundle as well which includes a blanket and signed poster.  I could use a good concert experience right about now, hoping this scratches my concert itch.

It does!

I caught a lot of livestreams. The CM Isolation festival, Green Carnation, the two Sonata Arctica shows, one Amorphis show, Insomnium's Winter's Gate + oldies, and then Evergrey. Looking forward to the next Insomnium stream on Oct 10 and catching the remaining Enslaved ones.

Enslaved is also playing a limited show in Oslo in November, but I have a feeling the pandemic is going to be absolutely raging again by then.

206 days later, I finally saw another concert!   :metal :metal

A drive in concert in PA.  My last night of my epic northeast US roadtrip vacation.  Weather was perfect, a bit cold, but not a cloud and the venue was on the side of a mountain with the stage on an incline (so everyone had a view, albeit far away) and the back of us was facing the city of Scranton in the valley below.  The moon was full the night before, but you might have just assumed it was a full one for the concert, super bright with a red/orangish Mars very bright right next to the moon.  I think the setting worked really well here.  It was rain or shine event, if it rained, I don't know how I'd feel about the whole experience.  They do a quick check of your entire car before scanning your ticket.  Open trunk, I had a suitcase so she opened it and looked in, but not deeply.  I brought lots of bottles of water and some snacks, no questions asked.  Probably could have snuck in anything you wanted really, I'd have snuck in booze if someone else was driving  :yarr Anyway, the sound wasn't the greatest.  Not loud enough for my liking, they had the option to tune to a radio station, but that also was not loud and really seemed to only make sense if you were going to watch from inside the car with the windows shut (like maybe if it were pouring?).  Anyway, you had about two parking spots of space for your car and the area where you were allowed to chill by your car.  In the middle of the lot was concessions, bathrooms, and merch which you could freely walk around, just needed to have a mask on.  It was all handled well, getting in and out was simple.  The whole idea of a drive in concert seemed dumb to me when the idea popped up when the pandemic started, but I can say, I would do this again.  Even moreso if you could fill a car up with friends to make the most of it.  The worst part is the ticket price per car makes it quite expensive for a single person.  But I already dumped so much money into the ticket, and because I had my car, I figured I'd splurge a little more for the merch bundle and I can safely store it in the car (not hold onto it all concert).  Also, being with a car.  I brought a tripod, set it up with my camera and recorded the entire show.  Something I've never done before because you can't bring tripods into shows.  I think this method totally puts an end to the idea of "you can't enjoy a concert if you are filming it" because I just stood next to it on the tripod and rocked out while letting it record.   :metal :metal As for the performance, you can see for yourself:

Nice!  :metal I'm happy for you and anyone else who gets one.

Your precise number made me curious about checking my dates. Sadly, I beat you, but shortly. I went 218 days without a concert.

Have they told me in 2019 "Next year you'll spend 218 days without a concert", I would have figured myself in an accident with both my legs broken. I would have not been able to imagine anything else keeping me from live music that long.

Well, we all know 2020 sucked and there's not much to say about concerts or even worth opening a concerts for 2021 thread...

But I did review the 10 concerts I did see in 2020 and made this top 5 concert moments of 2020 video if anyone is interested:

Cramx3's top 5 concert moments of 2020 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ksQkpgrcPc)

and even further, I was messing around with this idea and figured why not... so I streamed the making of this video (well, most of it, I started a few days before I decided to stream it).
