Animal Drive - The Look (Roxette):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nA2_mvYr5Xk
I love metal covers of pop songs and this is one of the best I've ever heard. Great production and video.
-
Oh yeah, they're Croatian band, the singer is one of the best if not the best Croatian singers. He also does solo acoustic shows.
Also, their debut wasn't too bad.
Gonna leave this cover of Die Young here, if anyone's interested
https://youtu.be/PBBt5y2iMvQ
And one of their original songs
https://youtu.be/IdPPCv5UETI

good band. Not the most original but yeah..........very strong singer.
-
I really liked their actual release - Bite!
But maybe this thread should be directed to share the covers we love? Petfish, if you're up for that rename the thread.

Awesome. It sure seems like a lot of these "amateur" bands have better production going on than pro bands.

Done!

What are the chances that anyone who posts a video actually let us know who and what it is before we click the link??
-
Why? So you can say they blow without having to watch the clip? :)

It's just that I'm not staying up all night blindly clicking into youtube links. I want the right of first refusal. :lol

Mine was originally in the thread title so I fixed it for you.
Here's another:
James & FJ - Wrecking Ball (Miley Cyrus)

Exit Eden have done a great album of pop covers.
Total Eclipse Of the Heart https://youtu.be/AD6VAZFHWLY
-
Well, this is always the most obvious to me when this topic comes up:
Nevermore - The Sound Of Silence - https://youtu.be/2Tuls4GTebs
I have also pimped this cover quite a bit. I'm not sure if it exactly fits the category but is a much heavier take on the original. It's from the original singer of Flyleaf.
Lacey Sturm - Roxanne (Live) - https://youtu.be/z8U6-xcE2vU
Disturbed has done several. Shout, Land of Confusion, The Sound of Silence.
Halestorm has also done a few.
Bad Romance - https://youtu.be/Ll4NJs3NBIU
Get Lucky - https://youtu.be/scZY7VNV-Go
That's off the top of my head. I know there's more.
-
Speaking of Halestorm, I liked their cover of Damn I Wish I Was Your Lover from Sophie B. Hawkins.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gzfdUAtnXAI
I think they also did 21 Pilots' Heathens (I hate that song honestly, never heard the Halestorm version though).
-
I don't remember how metal it is, but The Reasoning covered The Chauffeur by Duran Duran:

But then how can I Kiproll you??

Mate, there's a lot of shit out there and Tim's a busy man.
-
Not a cover of a pop song, but one of my favorite from 'back in the day' was Ugly Kid Joes cover of Cats in the Cradle. https://youtu.be/B32yjbCSVpU
A recent one by Toque (who do covers of Canadian hits) is a cover of The Headpins Don't it Make Ya Feel - https://open.spotify.com/track/4cKZV09D5XgKEif6OLTXS8?si=2sze_EUcQnSDPgfT4ALZ_A
-
One of my old favourites: Realm's interpretation of Eleanor Rigby :metal

Chaos Addict (feat. Dino Jelusic of Animal drive) - I will remember (Toto)

I love metal covers of pop songs
Have you heard of Leo Moracchioli? He's done a crapload of covers of pop songs from different eras. I'm not really into covers per se, but some of these are pretty great.

Threshold did Supermassive Black Hole
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DH6y7LD2GG0
(if Muse can be considered "pop"... maybe?)

This guy's power metal cover of Katy Perry's I Kissed A Girl (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vil-s82_LM0) is one of my favorites. It actually shreds. Love it

Katy Perry kissing a girl? I’m in.
A power metal musician kissing a girl? I can only suspend disbelief so much.

:lol But you always get the girl after killing the dragon!

Wow, that's weird. I was watching football and on one of the commercials was some hipster band - sounded a little rockabilly/punkish - doing a cover of "My Way" by Sinatra (well, Paul Anka, really) and I was like "God, I'm so OVER the ironic cover of classic songs by smart-asses that don't get it", and then this thread. :)
I'm really weird when it comes to covers. I love the song "Baker Street", I like the Foo Fighters, but I hate their version of it. To my mind, misses the essence of the song. I dig Ugly Kid Joe's "Cat's Cradle". I'm in on almost every one of Cheap Trick's Beatles covers. I'm in on almost all of Oasis' covers (Heroes, Street Fightin' Man, You've Got To Hide Your Love Away, I Am The Walrus...).
There's a fine line there.
-
I like Five Finger Death Punch's covers more than I do their original songs.
And Within Temptation's Q-Sessions tracks are generally better than the originals.

I love me some WT but never really checked this out. Now that I see the tracklist, I think I only know three of those artists and two of those songs.

Skyfall is amazing
-
Vision Divine does a fun cover of Take on Me.
-
Edguy's cover of Falco's Rock Me Amadeus rules
-
I don't know if this applies or not, but I do like Queensryches' version of Scarborough Fair.
-

and on that note, I like their cover of "Welcome to the Machine". Sounds a lot punchier than the original from Pink Floyd.
But when it comes to metal covers of POP (Rap too?) songs, sometimes they work other times it sounds off. Here is one I don't think it works so well.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gMKC7mPUkYQ
Eminem - Lose Yourself

That was an excellent cover. Go find the MTV Unplugged version and you can see me in the audience!

Another one that I really like is the cover of Hallo Spaceboy by Pagan's Mind
-
Bangles "Hazy Shade Of Winter" kicks ass

Any of you guys aware of the Replicants? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Replicants_(album)
I love that album.

That's a great one! Definitely one where, at the time, I thought it was an original and was surprised to learn it wasn't.
Also, Suzanna Hoffs.
-
Great suggestions. I'm loving the Rock Me Amadeus and I Kissed A Girl ones.
Halestorm does great covers as well and put out a covers CD between each full album but out of the 3 they've done so far I'd say Bad Romance kicks the most ass.
My next suggestion is Danger Silent - Crystallize (Lindsey Stirling):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gGE_tS-SYZQ
Somehow they managed to squeeze in clean male, clean female (even if it is autotuned, that's the effect they wanted I'm sure), growls, and a rap into it and it sounds like they're meant to go together.

I love that album.
Was it you that sent me this in my album roulette?

+1
Upon the mention of Scarborough Fair, I have to mention Bon Jovi's cover of Mrs. Robinson - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YSSAeTdQiFk (it's only 3mins. Not sure what the last 1/2 of this video is all about).

Interesting cover. Reminds me of the band, Starset, at the beginning. Now I'm hoping that Starset and Lindsey Stirling (who I like and saw her show a few weeks ago) can do something together in the future. It worked with Lindsey and Lzzy Hale. It should work with Starset (who does incorporate electronics and more spacey vibes in their music).

I think I did...

Surprised we haven't had this gem of a video mentioned... Blind Guardian - Mr. Sandman (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EfQPr6GChC8)
And then Alestorm covered a EuroVision song - Alestorm - Wolves of the Sea (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cCUmDJ0eU80) - and Alestorm - I Am A Cider Drinker (Wurzels cover) (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jpHstUt2Y10) and of course the great cover of Stan Rogers's Barrett's Privateers but that one's more folk than pop

Absolutely came in here to post this guy. He's amazing and his cover of Adele's "Hello" is the greatest thing ever:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LtQUJMBH8uE (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LtQUJMBH8uE)
Another favorite of mine recently has been New Found Glory's take on "Head Over Heels" ... I can't stop listening to it, just unbelievably good:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xPUm52erIJA (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xPUm52erIJA)

How about this version of "Hello" by Cole Rolland:

-
"Friends" theme in a minor key 80s piano power ballad:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UmdkGH3Plgo
Yeah, it's not a metal cover, but it's freaking intense and raw. Respect.
