Vote for which grouping you like best.
It's all about the later 60's in this one!
I will go with 5.
-
It has to be 5 for me.
-
F--- me; very close between No. 2 and No. 5, but I'll give the nod to five, since "Gimme Shelter" (always in contention for my favorite song ever, by any band).
EDIT: Huh. Not only have I never heard "Two Hangmen", I've never even heard OF it. So I went to YooToob, called up a video, and low and behold, the first comment was from Terry Talbot, the guy who wrote the song! That's cool! (Still never heard the song before, though).

5 kills all others.
-
Anything with Jefferson Airplane in is the one I'd vote for.
-
5, even with the Stones there. The other 2 songs give it the win for me.
-
hard pass on this one, not a big fan of this era of music.
-
I don't know many of the songs here as my knowledge of 60s music is greatly lacking, but Let It Be and Gimme Shelter make strong cases for both their respective groups. Gonna listen to these before answering.
-
Too much stuff in this one that I either don't know, don't know well or don't know by name.
The best songs in this group are Let It Be and Suite Judy Blue Eyes, and I'm gonna go with the Let It Be group because of Time of the Season. In the other group, Spirit in the Sky sucks, and I don't know the other song by name.
-
Group 5, by virtue of two near perfect tunes.

Not only have I never heard "Two Hangmen", I've never even heard OF it.
Same here.

These two words used together trigger involuntary cringing. As do most of the song titles in this thread (at least, the ones I recognize).

I'll take it to the next level: I've never heard of Mason Proffit.
From Wikipedia: "Mason Proffit was a country rock band from Champaign, Illinois. . . . Brothers Terry Talbot and John Michael Talbot played together in several local bands around Indianapolis, Indiana and later in Chicago. . . . 'Two Hangmen', written by the older brother, Terry, and released on their first album, Wanted, became a regional hit."

I'll do you one better: Why is Garmorra?

Wasn't that one of the monsters from one of those Godzilla movies that used to get played on Sunday afternoons?
-
Ditto on never hearing of Mason Proffit or Amboy Dukes.

Clearly you have not heard me belt out my Grace Slick.

I just know Amboy Dukes were Ted Nugent's band before he went solo. "Journey to the Center of the Mind" is the only song of theirs that I've heard of (whether I've actually heard the song is a different question).

Did psychedelic rock rule the late 60's?

Absolutely... Summer of Love, Woodstock, all the counterculture stuff going on, etc.

It's a great song, although I think it was definitely one of those regional hits, where it was big in some cities and non-existent in others. Our local classic rock radio station played the crap out of it like crazy back in the day and still features it on their classic show.

Damn I wish I had equally never heard of Ted Nugent.
