Who are they, IYO?
I think they are bands who got a big mainstream attention and that's a main reason why they're so famous with youngsters today as Slipknot, Disturbed, Avenged Sevenfold, Lamb of God and the likes. That's a bad thing. Unfortunately some talented, great metal bands are totally "out of the spotlight" and they suffer to be obscure metal names to a wider young public, whilst these commercial bands are pretty successful and popular.

Wearing or waving? Does it have to be a national flag? When I saw Rammstein, they held up a flag from the state of Illinois on stage. I've seen over 60 concerts in Illinois and not once has a band ever held up the official state flag on stage as a thank you to fans, so that was unique.
Or a flag with the band's own logo, which is infinitely more metal.

Speaking of Sabaton, they sell national flags with their logo on it, just like in the picture. That's pretty metal.

They also rolled out a massive Swedish flag over the crowd themselves in their live Swedish Empire DVD.

I think Sabaton is literally the most flag-waving metal band.

What about us??

In the 21st century? And are they metal?
-
Not sure they were metal in the 20th century! :lol

That's not a Swedish flag.

That was not a point of this thread. You took this thread literally.

Why is that a bad thing? Those bands are representing how metal music is in the 21st century and those are the bands that a lot of people can relate to, especially the youth. Like it or not. It's how music evolves.

WildRanger is clearly either a teenage hipster who thinks they know everything or a 40+ something who wishes music was as good as it was back in the good ol days, that isn't surprising

How about this one?

To get famous you need to big mainstream attention. :lol
That Led Zeppelin sucked when they became famous I tell ya.

Also the real answer is that rock and metal haven't been mainstream in at least a decade because what's mainstream in the 2010's has primarily been rap

For sure. Only a few bands like the Foo Fighters broke through.
-
That's more like, the early 00's :lol
The only "rock" band with any mainstream success in the past 5 years or so has been Imagine Dragons and I call them """rock""" very loosely
-
It is weird to see their albums sales decrease big time but the venue and tours are getting bigger. Weird time for music.

Do you mean "break through" in the last five years? Because the Foos have certainly had mainstream success in the last five years.

I think these bands being around a kind of a good thing as they are representing a heavier style of music that gets forgotten. These bands being around isn't the reason 'out of the spotlight' bands don't get recognition. All four of those bands also have good qualities too and are talented.

PSY.

Yeah, I meant Polish.

I think it's a natural progression of declining record sales and the popularity of streaming services. The artists have to earn their bacon somehow, so they'll play more gigs. You can find all your favourite band's albums and B-sides from YouTube, but there's no app that can really replicate the live experience.
