How many stars (1-5) would you give to this Metallica album?
Besides "One" what's your favorite track from this album?

One of course is great. I chose Frayed Ends of Sanity. Blackened is all right. Don't really like anything else.

Easily the best Metallica album, and still one of my alltime favourites.
Favourite track is Blackened, One is amazing, but probably ranks #3 of the album for me.

Tough call on best songs, the whole album is just so damn good (in spite of the production). I went with the title track.

Blackened is likely my favorite. Though I can't say I've listened to the entire album front to back since High School (90s)

4 stars because of bad production (mostly the lack of bass issue - SHAME ON YOU LARS) and I went with AJFA.

I chose the title track because the lyrics are so damned good.

I love this album. I know the production isn't amazing, but it's just fine and doesn't ruin my love of it at all.
Oh, and my favorite track (even including One) is Dyer's Eve.

I’d say it’s 4.5 stars but I rounded up to 5 since it really is that awesome. It’s let down slightly by some unnecessarily drawn out parts but those are very minor gripes. Blackened is my favorite song on there and probably my favorite Metallica song overall.

This one might be ok when it’s finished, but the way it sounds takes amy enjoyment I may have had away.

This one might be ok when it’s finished, but the way it sounds takes amy enjoyment I may have had away.
Pretty much ditto for me - nowhere near MoP or TBA in my ratings.
I enjoy the run of the first four songs (esp One and Eye of The Beholder) but from there I'm not a huge fan.

5 Stars./Blackened
Dyer's Eve is also kickass, but I love them all.
Love the production for it's "originality". The thing I loved when it was released, and still do, are all the stops & starts and "proginess".
After this, TBA came as such a shock and disappointment.

Pretty presumptuous to assume that One is everyone's favorite. Blackend is my favorite, and the favorite of many others according to years and years of data in the P&S forum.
I gave it 3 stars. Love a few songs... like a couple of more.. the rest is pretty forgettable.

RTL is peak Metallica. I just do not see the magic of AJFA unfortunately.

5 stars. I chose Blackened as it's my favorite Metallica song.
I get the thumping it takes on the production, but I enjoy the dry & dark sound. It gives this album it's own distinguishable voice. Speaking of voices, it's Hetfield's best sounding album. Lyrics on this album as a whole are their best. Title track lyrics are incredible. There's not a song I dislike.

4 stars, minus 1 for that production. I probably could have voted for Blackened or Dyer's Eve, but I decided to throw some love towards To Live is to Die. That middle section hits me right in the feels every time.

4/5 - still a classic album, but not quite on the same level as MoP and RtL for me. As for the individual songs, AJFA just pips Blackened.

3 stars...terrible production and a bit too much filler.
Blackened is my favorite song (and would be even if I were also considering One, which is no better than the third best song on the album and maybe not even that high).

I remember it also being played all over radio around that time period and a bunch of my friends in high school all going to the show. Funny that HoS never did much for me - probably my least favorite song on the album.

I agree. It's definitely my least favorite on the album. I can still remember Jason marching like a Nazi on stage during it.
