Sorry, but I really like 'Black Hole Sun' and 'Prophets of War'

I wish 'Another One Bites The Dust' by Queen never happened....because it led to 'Body Language' and the LP 'Hot Space'.

But....the worst song is the crappy song that is now in some WalMart ads, that was a 'nails to the chalkboard' decades ago, and now haunts me again.

'You Can Ring My Bell'

(oh, add the 'Crazy Train' intro due to all the 3rd downs at college football games)

Sad thing is, I've probably heard it more times than you, and a male Country cover of it several times as well. One of the many joys of working in a grocery store...

I hate that fucking song.

i think i have a particular distaste for that song because it's dull as hell and overlong but unlike, say, your generic radio pop or rap song, it also thinks it's the pinnacle of high art and just projects this horrendously pretentious atmosphere that it absolutely does not deserve, like, congrats, you... recording a boring guitar line with a bad amplifier and recited a really unpleasant poem over it? what do you want? a cookie? no, go back and write actual music worth the time spent listening to it, god. the 2.0 i gave might've been generous in hindsight, not gonna lie

Stadler, Lightning Crashes is a great song. :P

It was the first 15,482 times I heard it.   But it's not even that; the first album was good, the second album was great, but it's the train scenario; they had a hit with that, and it seemed like it encouraged them to follow that vein almost exclusively, and that wasn't what I thought their magic was.  Ed Kowalsadhisdiafhasidfhaisdfhaksdfhaowcjuwicz wrote that and then thought he was Eddie Vedder, Jr.

That's my beef with the Train song.  "Drops of Jupiter" makes me cry every time I hear it, and "Calling All Angels" is close, but once they hit it with the cute little sing-songy tune with the clever hipster lyrics everything seemed to follow that formula.   Pffffft.  No thanks.

Only live so far. We'll have the displeasure of hearing a studio version of that in a year or so. All he has to do is stop singing in the deep voice. I was thinking it's not just a Barlow thing, but Jon wants Stu to sound like the guy from Volbeat.

Take any of Volbeat's big songs and that's another submission for this thread. Talk about a tremendously bad voice... The songs themselves are catchy but that voice, oh my god, it's so bad, it actually makes me upset at times when his delivery is so obnoxious and unintelligible.

Not sure if there are so many Germans here, but for years now there is a mania for Helene Fischer in Germany, a singer whose music (in my opinion) is terrible. But actually I think the mania might be decreasing by now.

When Germany won the football world cup 4 years ago (I know - great timing considering the match yesterday :D ) I was at a public viewing place in Dresden, right at the Elbe, beautiful spot. And then we actually WON the freakin thing and we were all SO HAPPY- and the first song that was played was THIS ONE:

Italy's victory in 2006 was accompanied by endless repetition of the riff of Seven Nation Army by the White Stripes. Dunno and don't care how the two things came to be associated, it could have been a lot worse I guess but at a certain point it became obnoxious seeing people going "po - po-po-po po-pooo poooo..." all the time  :D

Here's a fun excuse to emerge from obscurity. I was going to say Seven Nation Army first and foremost. It's a fine song with a cool riff, but it somehow spawned the most insufferable sports chant in human history. I refuse to ever participate in it and I mute the TV whenever a crowd gets it going. I'm cool with "LET'S go SPORTS Team! *dun dun dadadun*" I'm cool with "D-FENCE *clapclapclap*" I'm even cool with doing the wave. The Seven Nation Army chant needs to be retired as soon as possible.

Other than that, I'll go with the "Doncha wish your girlfriend was hot like me" song because nothing good can ever come from its existence, I'll go with the "Crank Dat Soulja Boy" song for ruining 8th grade, and I'll call with the "I heard there was a secret chord that David played and it pleased the Lord Halleljuah" song for being a prerequisite to every talent show, piano recital, and sappy slideshow in the universe.

I only found out it existed because an italian singer, Elisa (the one I mention in my sig) made a cover of that. That was the way I discovered the song so I even prefer it over Jeff Buckley's version or the other ones, including the original.

To many people, the Buckley version is the definitive one; I won't disagree with that.

I'm talking about the way it's morphed into the "message" song du jour.   Kate McKinnon singing it on SNL because her choice didn't win.   I get it, it's a song of catharsis, and love lost, the tragedy of dealing with a broken heart...but the over-use is dulling it's impact.

Interesting.  I'll give you that Lightning Crashes was probably overplayed, but as I don't really listen to the radio, I haven't heard it in a really long time.   I haven't really followed Live's career, but regardless of what happened with their song writing, I dunno.  I don't think it calls for wishing the song out of existence. :)

I did live it, and I have good news and bad news for K Lox.

First the bad news....you can use "cool" and "Sister Christian" in the same sentence.

And with my example comes the good news... Sister Christian is definitely NOT cool.

Edit..Night Ranger f'n blows.

I mean, here comes this band with Ozzy's fill in guitarist paired with Dave Murray's twin brother ln guitars. The lead track is Don't Tell Me You Love Me, which is an absolute cracker. I remember buying the album and it was a pre-Winger Winger experience. What suckage!

It's not even that. If it sucks, then it sucks accross all genres.

So I've been making Spotify Playlists by year. This week I've done 1977 through 1984. Let's just say that 1978 and 1979 have plenty of Blondie! ;D

You're killing me.  "Sing me away, sing me awa-a-ay, oh yeah!"

The riff for Penny... C'mon.  Adrian Smith would have loved to have written that (and may have; listen to "Back In The Village")

They're just good clean fun, live.  It's not deep, it's not profound, but it's fun.

Ed Sheeran annoys the fck out of me. He’s so popular, mainstream radio seems to suggest he’s the only worthwhile artist to listen to.

Quite frankly, with the stuff I listen to on mainstream radio at times, if Ed Sheeran is the only thing worthwhile to listen to and the only thing on radio, I probably listen to mainstream radio more.  I dig the bloke's music.

Probably, if I hear a terrible song once, but never hear it again, I don't really care. It's when it is repeated on and on and on when it becomes annoying. That said, lifting this song from the 80s soundtrack thread:

I've had the time of my life  :omg: >:( Annoying from the start and not getting better the 14326th time this piece of shit is played.

I looked up a list of Chris Cornell's biggest hits to throw a bone toward Stadler and see if there was something good there. I went through over 15 songs. All of them horrendous. How any of them became big utterly baffles me. "Show Me How To Live" and "Doesn't Remind Me" - ugh. Sorry Stads, still fucking unbearable. :)

This is such an odd question - why did you pick Sheeran? I've heard like two of his songs so I can't even form an opinion on him beyond "I don't listen to him."

I cannot say with any certainly any of my male peers at that time would have known who she was, let alone have a crush on her. I've never heard China in your Hand either. And I remember liking Heart and Soul!

Heart and Soul was T'Pau's big US hit, but China in your Hand was their big UK hit - It was at number one for about a billion weeks and was played to death at every occasion for years thereafter. It's still a big karaoke and wedding dance tune to this day.  Carol was cute in a "girl next door" kind of a way - but if anyone knows any ex-UK Armed Forces who were there when she did her "show" for the troops in the Falklands, they might tell you a different story...

I've seen T'Pau live several times back then. They put on a good show and were much more rocking live than in the studio and Carol was "lewd" to say the least.

I generally like people with red hair, so she was right up my alley  ;D

Given that I am not an "ex-UK Armed Forces member", do tell (or point to somewhere I can read up).

I don't mind redheads either, just not her.

Check out the live video from the show they did in Mexico not long ago; she looks and sounds really good (and I don't necessarily mean that in a sexual way; she sings great and has a very commanding presence on stage).
