Title: Angus Young has called Van Halen a POP band

But yea, he's right. At the time, Van Halen was more pop than AC/DC was. That's all he said.

Is this supposed to be a bad statement to make?  If so, why?  It's just one famous musician stating an opinion about another famous band.

I was a fan of early Van Halen and was most decidedly NOT a fan of AC/DC.  But I would never really dispute that Van Halen was "more pop" than AC/DC.  Even if it was intended as a shot, it's not really a controversial statement.

Mid to late they added keyboards.  To me, it's the intent of that statement.

Why feed into a di b question about another band. I think Angus obviously wanted to get it out. 

In the end I could care less but it just seems petty.

The audio was bad, but wasn't he directly asked if he considered Van Halen a major rival to theirs? He said no, that they're more pop than ACDC are. That's it.

Not seeing the big deal here.

Pop is short for popular.

Van Halen is pop.

AC/DC is pop.

Led Zeppelin was pop.

What's the problem?

I know. And I obviously know that being called a pop artist is different than merely being popular.  Angus meant it to be a slam, like, "We just rock out, and they are more into having hits on the charts," but that is silly.  AC/DC rocks.  Van Halen rocks.  Both fall into the imaginary subgenre I would refer to as "party rock."
