Not a fan, so I could only vote for two:

Many Miles Away
-

May be able to knock it down to 40 for that!

Played the hell out of my Police Greatest Hits CD back in the day. Can't imagine going out of my way to listen to them now.
Message in a Bottle
Invisible Sun
Every Breath You Take
King of Pain
Wrapped Around Your Finger
-
Don't Stand So Close to Me
Spirits in the Material World
Synchronicity II
King of Pain
Wrapped Around Your Finger
Oh and allow me to add that the song from that list that I absolutely ABHOR is Roxanne. I HATE that song with a passion. UGH!
-
Dammit! Didn't mean to vote for Message in a Bottle; was supposed to vote for Walking on the Moon instead. The "Sending out an SOS" bit at the end spoils MIAB for me; goes on far too long.
Anyway, I only voted for three others, Roxanne, Can't Stand Losing You and Every Little Thing. My fifth choice is going to a song not on this list: When The World Is Running Down, You Make the Best of What's Still Around.

Don't Stand So Close to Me
Spirits in the Material World
Synchronicity II

You and me both, brother. I'm a big fan of the Police, generally, and really think they have some gems in the catalogue (I'm a huge fan of Sting's voice when he sings those long legato lines in his upper register - think "Synchronicity") but that wail on "Roxanne" makes it one of my least favorite songs EVER, not just by the Police. One of the few I skip (on CD) or turn off (on radio).
-
Roxanne is easily my least favorite Police song. So annoying. I'll even take Mother and Born In The 50's over it.
Masoko Tanga is the most underrated Police song IMO.
-
I was intending to vote for some of the older songs, but when I got to the Synchronicity songs, the nostalgia hit me SO hard just reading those song titles. I went:
Message
Synchronicity II
Every Breath
King of Pain
Wrapped
-
Message in a Bottle, but my favorite isn't on here (When the World Is Running Down You Make The Best of What's Still Around)
-
I thought this would be easy but I forget how many good songs they have.
-
That was easy. The last five on the list.
-

I love Born In The 50's. That whole first album is killer... except for the cat on a hot tin roof caterwauling that is "Roxanne".

My son used to think it was partly in Spanish: Sendinatta SOS. Funny
-
I echo the hate sentiments for Roxanne. I really, really hate that song.
Everyone voting for it needs to show themselves so we can deride them. :P :lol
-
Wrapped
Spirits
Sync II
write-ins:
The Bed's Too Big Without You
Man in a Suitcase
-
Roxanne
Message
Every Little Thing (a song that was featured prominently in my wedding reception video)
Synch 1 (I think that's the one I like...the faster one?)
King of Pain
Spirits probably would've been #6
-
Cant Standing Losing You
Message in a Bottle
Driven to Tears
Spirits Material World
King of Pain
No real order. Always some really clever bass lines in these songs , Sting is almost " McCartney " level gifted with that.
-
Can't Stand Losing You
Driven to Tears
Spirits in the Material World
Invisible Sun
Wrapped Around Your Finger
It was hard enough to not vote for all of the Synchronicity tracks in the poll. However, my favorite Police deep cut wasn't on the list - Secret Journey. That song was and still is amazing. Ghost in the Machine is such a great album.
Also joining in on the dislike for Roxanne and sadly, Message in a Bottle - MiaB is awesome.. up until the 200 jillion repeats of "sending out an SOS" at the end.
write-ins:
The Bed's Too Big Without You
Man in a Suitcase
:heart :heart

Love Mother and Born In The 50's. Roxanne not so much.

Roxanne
Message in a Bottle
Synchronicity II
Every Breath You Take
Wrapped Around Your Finger
I would vote for "So Lonely" if it was one of the choices.
-
This was a lot harder than I thought it would be.
Went with:
King Of Pain
Message In A Bottle
Invisible Sun
Every Breath You Take
Wrapped Around Your Finger
-
Voted:
Every Little Thing…
Synchronicity II (is the first Synchronicity really a classic Police song?)
Every Breath You Take
King of Pain (my favorite Police song)
Wrapped Around Your Finger
Have never gotten into the Police or Sting beyond the radio hits. Have a best of CD of each plus Hounds of Winter which is pretty cool. But every time I think about picking up an album by Sting or the Police I think “will I really listen to this?” I don’t listen to the ones I have very often, even though I do enjoy them when I do.
-
In the words of N.W.A. - Fuck The Police.
Horrible band, led by two horrible people.
-
I just came in to say - again - how horrible "Roxanne" is.
That is all.
-
I wouldn't vote for Roxanne as top 5 in this group, but why all the hate?

Which TWO?

This was hard...I voted:
Message in a Bottle
Don't Stand So Close to Me
Every Little Thing She Does is Magic
Every Breath you Take
King of Pain
Very close to making top 5:
Spirits
Synchronicity II
Wrapped

Because it sucks pig shit. I have a handful of rock songs on my "I can't believe this song is that popular" list, and that is always first on the list.
-
My favorite Police song is Secret Journey.

My favorite Police song is Secret Journey.
I like that one a lot. Ghost in the Machine is a very good record, and it is hard to not pick the first three songs (the hits) as my favorites, but Secret Journey might be my favorite of the rest. :hat
-
Kev, you've heard the story of "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic?"
-
Which one?
-
I can see not liking Roxanne. It’s not one I particularly like either. Some major grating factor on that verse. But the chorus is really catchy and the “Roooxaanne” line is certainly one of the most memorable and recognize-able hooks in rock music. That episode of Community where they have a party at Troy’s and explore all the alternate timelines illustrates that vividly!
-
The record label didn't hear a hit and asked to have an "Uplifting" song added.
-

Shocking. Labels are idiots. Remember when INXS recorded Kick? Their label offered them 1 million dollars to chuck it and go write and record a whole new album. Geniuses. :lol :lol
-
I love stories like that.
-
My favorite Police song is Secret Journey.
That's a top song.
For me, the "Roxanne" is just about the vocal. I think Sting is a great singer; my friend - who idolizes him, basically - and I agree that he's a fantastic singer (and the world's best background vocalist). But that one song is just grating. I personally also have a problem with that time in '85, '86 when he was distancing himself from The Police, playing guitar instead of bass (he's an excellent bass player as well) and that was one of the few songs that seemed to get aired and it just epitomized for me all that was wrong with The Police and that short period after.
-
5?
Police is another one of those bands that there might be a handful of songs that don't thrill me but the rest of it is pure bliss.
