some comments on FB mentioned that. I am fine with that, but I gotta admit, the vocals really worked well for me on their last album. But I love their instrumental pieces as well (Avoid the Light namely).

I'm not sure if I should be excited or worried. I know those guys can come up with some awesome music but I also know it can be super weird.
-
As of now I am super exited about The Sea Within... but then again I was about the unnamed prog metal supergroup with Portnoy and Sherinian too
-
Redemption - Long Night’s Journey into Day
Really excited to find out how they sound with Tom Englund

A Perfect Circle's fourth album will probably be released in the second quarter of 2018 as well. (https://www.spokesman.com/stories/2017/nov/24/panic-mode-inspires-a-perfect-circle-to-finish-upc/)

The idea is that we use this thread to suggest things like this to be added to the calendar. It's impossible for one person to keep track of so many things, so we as a community contribute to this.

I wouldn't hold out hope for Flying Colors 3 happening this year. Sounds like MP's main focus for this year is touring Sons of Apollo, and in a recent interview, he was kinda vague about FC.
-
Perfect Beings - Vier (Jan 19th)
-
yeah, I just moved Flying Colors to *speculation/hope*
@ MODS: I would think we can Unstickie the 2017 Calendar Thread, and Stickie this one now.
-
Muse is likely going to be dropping an album next year as well (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CCx8bK2t_e4). Bit surprised it hasn't been mentioned yet.
Side note: this is a really good interview. It feels more like a genuine conversation and dialogue instead of "lemme read you these standard questions from a script", and it flows really well. There's no super awkward pauses that pop-up all the time in other interviews. Wish more interviews were like this.

Machine Head - Catharsis (Jan 26th)
Oh shit! I didn't realise this was coming out so soon! Fingers crossed it'll be good, I liked the last one a fair bit and The Blackening is still my #1 album of the 00's.

Yea I know but I'm going in without any preconceptions. The Burning Red is my least favourite but (as I said in the Machine Head thread) I love Supercharger, and that album gets slammed as well. Bring it

This one can really be a big hit or big miss, thought I already mentioned it here but apparently didn't:
April 6th: Hypno5e "Alba, les ombres errantes". It's a movie directed by Emannuel Jessua from Hypno5e and will be released along with a 75 minute soundtrack of the band, first song was released on a combined Pelagic Records playlist, titled "Cuarto del Alba": https://pelagicrecords.bandcamp.com/track/cuarto-del-alba

Spock's Beard - Noise Floor (late Spring or early Summer)
Source, please? I've checked the official SB pages (FB, Twitter, website) and I've seen nothing confirming this.
Also, Clive Nolan tweeted yesterday that Arena would be starting recording their next album on January 15th, so that's a possible shoe-in for the autumn/winter.

Delving further into it, bassist Dave Meros remarks that the LP is tentatively called Noise Floor, will probably be come out in "late spring or early summer", and contains "no overriding theme... it's just a collection of different songs." Finally, he adds that as of now, there are 12 pieces planned for the track list, and while none are short, there aren't any "massively long multi-part songs", either. One can only wait patiently over the next few months for this third Leonard-era disc—and 13th studio album overall—to see the light of day. (In the meantime, you can check out some behind-the-scenes clips of them recording it.)

To be clear, Dave also posted on Facebook recently that that title is REALLY TENTATIVE, and until they hear back from the album artist, in case they have other ideas or suggestions for the title, it could change at any moment, but I kind of like it as it is. I'm sure it relates to the album some way.

Is anyone thinking of starting a 2018 album rankings thread? I've started ranking all the albums I'm listening to as they are released.
I've only ranked about 16 albums this year and I'll likely be changing it all over the year, as new albums grow and fade. Might be interesting. I'll start one later on tonight if I get the chance.

why is it 78 minutes long. omg claudio why
If it's as good as IKSSE3, or any of their first 4 albums for that matter, then who cares. I never got peoples aversion to long albums as long as they are good, with little to no filler. Granted that becomes harder and harder the longer the album is. Now if it's 78 minutes of material like The Color Before the Sun, then I will be pissed and questioning Claudio's sanity....
-
i can't think of a single album pushing the 75+ minute mark that needs to be as long as it is. even with albums i really love like awake or TPE1 they do have tracks I wouldn't miss if they were cut, honestly
mostly my attention span tends to run out for longer albums but we'll see

Hot damn! This year keeps getting better and better. So totally hyped for the following:
Stoned Jesus - Pilgrims
Crippled Black Phoenix - The Great Escape
Thrice - Palms
Vennart - To Cure A Blizzard Upon A Plastic Sea
Dir En Grey - The Insulated World
Riverside - Wasteland
Black Peaks - All That Divides
Coheed and Cambria - Vaxis - Act I: The Unheavenly Creatures
iamthemorning - Ocean Sounds
Haken - Vector
The Ocean - Phanerozoic
Once again, the majority of this music is in my life because of DTF. Pre-DTF I only knew Stoned Jesus, Thrice (who I didn't even really like as the albums a friend had lent me weren't really my cup of tea 10 years ago), Dir en Grey and Coheed and Cambria.
