What do the titles of Images and Words, Awake, the debut album and Scenes have in common? we all know it, they take the name from a line in the lyrics.
What if this was a strict rule inforced for every album? let's have some fun in trying to find out some alternative names to fit the pattern!
Albums that in this "game" should be renamed would be:

I think that, given the nature of the concept and a coherent story being told throughout the album, "The Astonishing" would feel silly named any other way, I won't include it, but feel free to do so.

Wait for Sleep is named Wait for Sleep, not Images and Words (which, for the record, was a good title as any for the song), had that been the way, the album would have been named after a song *title* and not a song *line*.

Man while thinking about Black Clouds lyrics for this, I got an urge to listen to the album, especially when I haven't been listening to anything DT since The Astonishing came out but The Astonishing. So many great moments on Black Clouds, I skipped Best of Times but the rest of it is a lot of fun.
I remember how much fun we had here making fun of Tuscany's lyrics when the album was new :lol
One thing I don't miss is MP's vocals, damn they were annoying at times!

"How did the album title for Falling Into Infinity come about?
MP: Having sat with "Stream of Consciousness" (the original title) for a whole year, it gave everyone a chance to second guess themselves. John Petrucci and myself still wanted to call it Stream of Consciousness, but the other guys were starting to think it was too pompous. So we had to rethink an album title, and we did the usual method of going through all the lyrics, but nothing really knocked us out. This was the first time that an album title didn't stem from any of the lyrics. We actually toyed with the idea of just calling it "Dream Theater" because of the many changes and different approach, but we figured that was a cop-out. Actually John P brought in the idea "Falling Into Infinity" and we all liked it."

I can only think A Perfect Sphere for Octavarium. The Dark Eternal Night has a line that could a great title for another album in The Echo of the Universe, but I don’t think it would fit Systematic Chaos.
Thing is - a lot of the albums are perfectly named. Maybe not the self-titled, but when has a self-titled album ever been the perfect name for a record?
