Rush - Time Stands Still
One of my fave Rush songs.
Also, half of Alan Parsons discography.
-
Winery Dogs - Regret
-
Bob Seger - Against The Wind
Kelly Keagy (the Night Ranger guy) - Time Passes (what a beautiful song)
Rush - Analog Kid
But the absolute best ever, and one of my favorite songs of all time:
Genesis - Evidence of Autumn
The girl from all those songs
Who made everything feel right
She came in like an angel, into your lonely life
And filling your world with light
Oh, and everybody told you "you're oh so lucky"
The night is clear but cool
Ooh maybe dawn is breaking as you turn to find her gone
Then you see the note
Ooh you cannot believe it
And you think you'll go insane...
But that was many years ago
And though the pain is dim
A something still remains
Though you hardly can recall
Her face or form
Her memory lingers on

Rush - Time Stands Still
Such shocking butchery of the title :lol
My partner and I consider this our song for various reasons. Beautiful song.
-
Yup. I ruined it. Don't use it then. :lol

Neal Morse - Emma
-
Thin Lizzy- It's Getting Dangerous

Lots of Harry Chapin songs.
Cats in the Cradle
Mr. Tanner
Shooting Star
Taxi
-
Not sure these exactly fit, but...
Zeppelin - That's The Way
Rush - The Garden
-
Pink Floyd - Time
Porcupine Tree - Time Flies
-
Pink Floyd - Time
Porcupine Tree - Time Flies
This... just this
-
Redemption - "Memory"
-
Queensryche - Promised Land

Genesis - Evidence of Autumn
I love that one, but I slightly prefer another "lost" Genesis tune which also fits the theme, Open Door. He's been gone so long that he can't even remember her face, and that makes his regret even worse. He just has that image of her standing by the open door as he's leaving. There are a few tunes that can bring me to tears, and this is one of them.
-
Pink Floyd's "High Hopes" is a personal favorite.
-
Supertramp.. The Logical song. Its about how life used to be simple and you could enjoy the little things, and this world forces you to conform to its ways and take things too seriously.
-
Skid Row - Wasted Time
-
Idk if these ones can qualify, but :
Nilsson, Without You
London Grammar, Wasting my Young Years?

Good call with Nilsson. That's a great tune.
-
This one always gets me nostalgic for some reason. Reminds of a time in my life I'm glad I don't have to deal with anymore, but the tune is so great that I don't mind revisiting the memories from time to time.
Sometime Around Midnight by The Airborne Toxic Event
-
Good call with Nilsson. That's a great tune.
I have always loved this song, even if it is just a cover. Yet, for me, without Nilsson, this song would not have been as amazing, even if the original, save the chorus as is sung, is good enough.

I wrote a pretty cool song called Regret.
Is it better than every song posted here? Yea, probably.
Am I humble? The most humble.
-
'In My Life' stands out. Others such as Strawberry Fields, Pennylane........
Queen: These Are The Days Of Our Lives, The Show Must Go On
Freddie (w/Dave Clark): 'Time', 'In My Defence'
Genesis: 'Afterglow'

Holy crap, I never realized that this was a cover! I always just thought it was a Nilsson song.

"Two writers of the song, Ham and Evans, later committed suicide..."
Tragic.

Röyksopp's "Sparks" make me long for people I barely get to see anymore. And the singer's voice sounds like an old recording, which just makes the nostalgic feeling stronger.
-
Fates Warning - A Pleasant Shade of Gray
-
A few of my favourites
Yes - Turn of the Century
Yes - Harold land
Rush - Afterimage
Rush - Losing it
This one just about brings a tear to my eye every time I hear it.
Roxy Music - A Song For Europe
Here as I sit
At this empty cafe
Thinking of you
I remember
All those moments
Lost in wonder
That we'll never
Find again
Though the world
Is my oyster
It's only a shell
Full of memories
And here by the Seine
Notre-Dame casts
A long lonely shadow
Now, only sorrow
No tomorrow
There's no today for us
Nothing is there
For us to share
But yesterday
These cities may change
But there always remains
My obsession
Through silken waters
My gondola glides
And the bridge, it sighs
I remember
All those moments
Lost in wonder
That we'll never
Find again
There's no more time for us
Nothing is there
For us to share
But yesterdays
Check out this live version. The last half, particularly Andy Mackay's solo is :hefdaddy

Yeah, the poor guys ended up being screwed as far as their contract was concerned and both committed suicide. Life can be a bitch sometimes.

Tom Waits, Nick Cave and...umm....Leonard Cohen have some powerful stuff in this area
