10 minutes in, someone needs to tell John Myung to calm down.
-
Apologize in advance for the audio quality - it's the best we had...
-
My favorite:
"Oh crap, you remembered everything." John Petrucci to John Myung, who remembered during the rehearsal that they were supposed to have solo sections in the set.
-
Anyone else chuckle at JP's line about how you should avoid social media and the forums if you are think-skinned and cannot handle criticism well?
-
And then they laughed afterwards. :lol
-
You did a good job with the sound quality, Noxon, don't worry.
And it was a nice interview. :tup
-
The sound quality was fine, but listening with headphones, around the 20 minute mark, I thought my roof was falling in!
What's funny is how JM speaks for a minute or so, and then JP translates it for everyone else. :lol
-
JM is a bit of a pain to listen to. He makes a long pause, then gives a very straightforward answer. :lol
-
I lost track at how many times JP had that "C'mon, John, spit it out" look on his face. :lol :lol
-
Stupid question here... Noxon, are you the interviewer? Didn't we meet at the RCM Astonishing show (pre-show and after)?
-
I'm one of the interviewers - but not the one on camera. That's John. And the other two on camera are John and John. Surrounded by Johns.
-
The North American leg will come after the Asian leg. Interesting.

John's everywhere! I thought that was who it was. Great interview!

I'm around 13 minutes into it, and it sounds ok to me. There's a little bit of weird mic stuff here and there, but it doesn't detract from the interview. Great interview!!!
-
Nice interview but yeah I have sound issues - when it comes JM's turn to talk the sound seems to disappear.

:lol :lol Or it's very very low...

And JP looks right into the camera.

BLABBERMOUTH : DREAM THEATERS PETRUCCI IMPLIES FORMER DRUMMER MIKE PORTNOY IS THIN SKINNED
@MikePortnoy 2m
*I* am *NOT* thin skinned. If anyone is think skinned it's *THEM*. NOT *ME*.
My new DVD is out on Friday ! : ) : ) : )
-
I'll have to watch it during my lunch break, looks like a good interview.

It is but Myung speaks so damn quiet. I kinda wanna download the vid and turn up the audio when JM is speaking and re-upload it.
-

That's because JM speaks with his mind.
-
If they aren't going to make a new album until next year I hope they can at least release a live album to tide us over.
-
I&W & More Live DVD
So fans can argue which snare sounded worse.

I lol'd

So, that I guess explains the lack of US tour dates. They won't come around until the end of this year.

Yup, that was my thought as well. I didn't realize they were taking time off in the summer, then hitting Asia, all before the NA portion of the tour.
-
Wonderful interview. Thanks so much for doing and sharing. :tup

Not gonna happen. They don't make money on them anymore.
-
This reminds me... Noxon you should mention a crowdfunding campaign to JP, they might be surprised at how many of us will donate for live releases / extra goodies.
-
I'd be shocked if they don't release TA live.

That's actually not a bad idea. I'd totally pay $10 or $15 bucks up front for a digital only copy of TA or the I&W set.

The sound was fine. Myung's just a quiet dude. Good interview!

Then prepare to be shocked. It ain't happening unless they decide to do just a live audio release. No shows from 2016 were professionally filmed (or actually filmed at all, given the strict rules against use of phones/tablets during the shows) and the band has stated that they're done with doing TA in its entirety.

That's odd. It really seemed like something they would've released live. I'm not a big fan of the album but just out of curiosity, why didn't they want to release a live version?
-
It just never happened.

It just never happened.
Exactly. I know JP in particular wanted to see it happen, but I think after ticket sales for the second North American leg weren't what they were hoping for, they started to question to what degree it would be worth it to film the show and release it, since they've even said that live releases aren't the money makers they used to be. And when they opted to shift gears and do the IWaB shows, instead of doing another TA leg in Europe or do a TA leg in Asia/Oceania, that sealed the fate for there ever being a TA live video release.
-
I see.
-
Well if you believe what you read on this forum - it's " by far their worst album and nobody has two weeks to explain what's wrong with it. "
:)
The way some people hate The Astonishing - you'd think they'd just released Saint Anger.
inb4 they may as well have...
-
Does anyone know why they such a strict no filming policy? I mean you get yelled at for taking a single picture. I love DT but that has always been something that irritated me.
-
It was such an unusual concept and performance, made deliberately in sitting theaters, that they probably wanted people to concentrate on the actual presentation rather than going full "sea of LCDs screens" all the time.
-
If I remember correctly this is their policy at every show, not just for TA.
-

You do not remember correctly. It was a new thing for TA.
-
A JP + JM interview?
So a JP interview?
-
If we get a DVD release from this I&W and More Tour, I'm going to be livid.
-

I don't know, I swear I remember seeing them on the ADTOE tour and the venue staff were yelling people through out the show saying the artist requested no photos. Maybe it was just a venue thing.
-
Could have been. Some venues are stuck-up sticky beets.

You seem abnormally hung up on other people not liking the Astonishing.
-
Nah it's just when people describe it as "obviously" the worst album " of course ". . .
Or say it's the worst album. Full Stop. No Reasons.

I saw the band in Stockholm about a month ago and I took a bunch of pictures. Nobody tried to stop me or any the other concert-goers who were taking pictures and/or filming. As a matter of fact, you can clearly see that there are plenty of live videos from the 'Images, Words & Beyond' tour on YouTube (in stark contrast with what happened during "The Astonishing" tour).
-
I have a different question about the interview. JP said they played on song for the 1st time on the I & W tour. Which song is it?
I am a new fan (a little over a year) and have been to 3 concerts (TA) so am not as familiar about the concerts.

The first half of your last sentence might answer the second half of it.
