I wasn't exactly sure whether I should make a full thread about this, because I'm somewhat modest, but the excitement is taking over. I'm the guitarist in a progressive/alternative metal band and we're releasing our debut album 'Notes by an Unstable Muser' in Spring this year. The album is a huge stylistic and qualitative improvement over the demo EP 'Daybreak' (https://open.spotify.com/album/2Bsz5i5eaJkMNV3p9rczN5) we released in 2014 (which included a cover of DT's 'Overture 1928 / Strange Deja-Vu') and the live album (https://open.spotify.com/album/2zRZ9BZ22yc0YMW6ydHsnW) we released the following year.
To celebrate the upcoming release, we have shot a video-clip for the lead-single BLUE BOX, which we released today!! :D
You can watch the videoclip here: https://www.overhaul.band/BlueBox
Or listen to the song on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/album/79oAXdlco2flALbDpG02vi
And please, if you like what you hear, let me know and let your friends know as well!
We're posting regular updates on our Facebook page, so you can follow us there to know all about the album release.

I listened to Blue Box twice, it's not bad man! I feel like I hear a lot of Leprous/Pain of Salvation influence
Singer has improved greatly IMO, I wasn't a big fan of him on the live in amsterdam stuff but I like him here
-
I haven't heard the live, but this new song is great! I listened the demo a year ago or more and I will revisit it when I have time, but to me it seems almost a different band from what I remember.
-
Thanks very much for the replies! I too believe we really took a huge step towards professionalisation in sound and song-writing. The new album (all 10 tracks) are far more mature than the material on the demo EP. The single 'Blue Box' is an example of that, but I'd like to say that the rest of the album will feature quite some different things altogether! :D
-
Is the lyric line with the title a Doctor Who referense?
-
I really enjoyed the song. The groove was pretty cool, and I really liked the main keyboard patch. It felt pretty Leprous-y in parts, and just like The Congregation, it'd probably be rather stale if the entire album sounds like that, but you've said that it's a quite varied affair, so I'm definitely looking forward to listening to it. :tup
Man, you've definitely come a way since Daybreak (which was cool, but a lot less mature than Blue Box). Keep it up.
Also great video.
-
Wow, this was pretty good. I agree about PoS/Leprous influences, and it also reminded me of Initiate by Haken because of that steady progressive beat or rhythm or whatever it's called throughout the song.
If you're going to release the physical copies of the album, I think I will buy one. I don't think I'm ready to pay shipping costs though (those always suck), so if there are physical copies, save one for me. I hope we'll meet before Ayreon Universe show, so I will be able to get it directly from you. :P Anyway, I'm looking forward to hear the whole thing now!

Thanks! And I can definitely assure you that the rest of the album is indeed quite varied in style. We were definitely going for a 'modern' prog approach, so that's what you'll hear. Laprous has definitely been an influence on us, but we're really not only copying The Congregation ;)

And thank you as well! We're definitely going to meet up before the Ayreon show, even if you don't know it yet. There's only going to be one chance in the near feature that many DTF buddies are going to be together this close to where I live, so absolutely!

finally got around to listening to this, pretty solid stuff. will prob check out the full album when you guys release it. honestly production-wise everything sounds great, dug the guitar tone especially

Neat. Fun detail.
Anyways, have listened to the song a few times and enjoy it. I'll echo the above statement in saying that I'll check out the album once it drops.

So, we have a releasedate!! 23rd of September the album will be available.
More immediate: we released our second single today. You can listen to 'Aeons & Life' through any of the links below:

Not going to lie, this was pretty good! I played it like four times in a row. Some vocal melodies in the verses felt a bit weird for me, but otherwise I enjoyed it. The chorus especially stood out as very well done.
I just have to ask, any chance I will be able to somehow get a physical copy of the album at our meetup before the Ayreon show? ;)
-
Yeah, the chorus was cool, the singer really impresses there. I also really like your bass tone. It all sounds good but being a bass player myself I really liked that.
Overall, cool track, although I think I like Blue Box more.

Wicked! And stop being so modest, brag about that other thing too!
-
Holy shit, this other thing sounds amazing. Hopefully you guys will kick ass and get some new audience from that.

Blame the other Rich! Nice to see you :)

Thank you all for the nice responses and sorry for not replying any sooner here! ;D
So, we opened for Anneke van Giersbergen's nieuw band 'VUUR' last Friday and it was absolutely awesome. I don't think we were exactly the best we've been stage-performance wise, but the sold-out venue really scared us :lol (and we only got the gig like literally 3 days before). Anneke's new band completely killed it though and overall it was a great evening!

THIRD SINGLE :panicattack:
People who follow me or my band on Facebook might already have seen this, but there's no such thing as promoting your own stuff too much
A song I wrote, really proud of the final result. I am sure you can hear some influences in this particular track. We made a video for the song as well. In only two weeks time we're releasing the album to the rest of the world. For all who want to be there, our release-party will take place in PopEi, Eindhoven (the Netherlands) on the 23rd of September.

Oh and if you want to get the album, it will be released through Freya Records (worldwide) and we have pre-orders open until our release-party through https://overhul.band/order
Thanks for listening! :heart
-
I received the album yesterday. I've only listened to it twice so far but it's really good! I thoroughly enjoyed it! The production's really good as well!
-
Stone Intact and Storm were especially cool.
-
Whoaa, thanks!
I completely forgot to update this thread, because I've been very busy both with work and with the band. We released our debut album 'Notes by an Unstable Muser' about a week ago now and it's such a weird feeling to have our music which we worked on for so long finally be released to the public.
Thanks to anyone listening. It should be available through all (major) digital streaming websites (including services I have never even heard of). It's been a long ride getting this one out there, but it's there now :)
