I have been a fan of his ever since I was a kid, with The Thing probably being my favorite of his.
I just watched Prince of darkness. Wow, what a cool and creepy film.
What are some of your favorite John Carpenter films?

Edit: Oh and his Masters of Horror episode titled Cigarette Burns is excellent. His other episode titled Pro-Life is not very good though.

Halloween will forever be my favorite scary movie. Shameful what it has been turned into since then.
The Fog was decent. John Houseman's opening scene was chilling.
Big Trouble in Little China is just plain fun.
The Thing is top notch as well.

Did Wes Craven do A Nightmare on Elm Street ? I've never seen one of those movies.
All I know of Wes is the Scream movies onwards - which are just ultra generic shiny hollywood jump scare bullshit.
Yes I know the Screams were kinda Brechtian. But They didn't deliver as scary films.
And it spawned a shit load of junk like Final Destination and I Know What You Did Last Summer.

Well, Wes Craven was much better before Scream. My favorite beside the original ANOES is The Serpent and the Rainbow. He made a few other good horror movies, but I think he's an overrated horror director and I agree that Scream wasn't a good thing for the horror genre. The late 90s were pretty terrible for the genre.

Big Trouble in Little China and John Carpenter's The Thing are both amazing and mind-boggling. They're the two of his that I have on Blu-ray.
I also like Vampires, Starman, and Escape from New York. I saw Christine a long time ago and don't really remember it, except one of my friends said they should just stop putting gas in her.

I love Halloween
I'm really excited about his involvement in the upcoming sequel and/or reboot. Although I'm surprised that he's taking another stab at it. Pun intended.

And somewhere along the line I've seen Starman and Prince Of Darkness but I can't really remember the films, so no rating from me.
John Carpenter also has written and performed some really cool film music. My favorite would be the synthesizer themes from Escape From New York.

One of my favorite directors. My two favorite are The Thing and Big Trouble in Little China, and Escape From NY and Assault on Precinct 13 also fantastic. I will also always have a soft spot in my heart for Prince of Darkness.
