I love Alestorm. A friend of mine was into them back when they were called Battleheart, so I've known about them for a while. Captain Morgan's Revenge (the song) is epic as hell.

Pretty crazy. I had never heard of them before but a friend was like: "Want to come see a pirate metal band with me and some friends?" and I was like: "Pirate metal?! I'm there!".

The crowd went crazy for Wenches and Mead.

They also played The Power of Ale :hat

Bands keep doing that thing on the first verse (0:44 to 0:52)
Same as on The Trooper by Iron Maiden (0:36 to 0:49)
and Hallowed by thy Name (1:38 to 1:57)
and Through the fire and flames (0:40 to 0:50) expect for the keyboard
can anyone think of any other examples of this?

WHEN I COME BACK FROM A MIGHTY QUEST, I HAVE NO NEED FOR SLEEP OR REST
I HEAD TO A TAVERN A DRINK AND GET SO DRUNK I CANNOT THINK
A WENCH BY MY SIDE A JUG OF MEAD, THESE ARE THE THINGS THAT I MOST NEED
SO I JUST SIT BACK AND SING THIS SONG AND DRINK AND PARTY ALL NIGHT LONG

Or something like that.

Either of them are good - most people got Captain Morgan's Revenge first simply because it came out first. There isn't a huge difference in style or quality between the two.

But if you get the chance to see them live, jump at it. Great live act. :D

I'm guessing it would be boring nerdy bedroom-guitarist style stuff/shoegaze. Just seems appropirate for some reason.

Pirates are the orginal rock 'n' roll party animals, and ninjas are the types who'd never get invited to parties. And that is what spawned the conflict.

Listening to "Death Throes of the Terrorsquid."  I'll be honest, Alestorm have written better songs.  I'm actually getting bored with it, though I do like his screams around the 5:00 mark, even if the music behind it wasn't all that interesting.  I'm gonna listen to "Captain Morgan's Revenge" to get a proper dose of epic Alestorm.  :metal

Hangover (well done pop cover) (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d5P5Tz3VH94)

and of course for the prog fans:
This song is amazing Sunset of the Golden Age (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EU0qR36K5ZE)

I think this has slowly become my most anticipated band to see at ProgPower., they are just going to bring the fun to the show

Alestorm is awesome! Their music is so much fun, rocking and catchy. Their last album, No grave but the sea is great! I already missed them in Mexico last year, but I was tight on money. I hope to catch them soon!

They are just so much fun. Sometimes that's all I need from a band. I have enough serious music and sometimes these guys are exactly what I crave.

Drink is just  :yarr :yarr :yarr

And apparently both are touring the US together.

Honestly, haven't been able to dig anything from Gloryhammer, but I'll see both bands at ProgPower

Exactly how I feel.  They are just flat out fun.  Even my gf digs some of their tunes because they are accessible and fun.  But what's interesting is they have a song on each album that's more progressive and shows they aren't just spitting out catchy songs, but can write some solid music as well and even keep it within character

I've seen Alestorm numerous times and was a fan when they were called Battleheart, but I've fucking hated them ever since album #3, and Gloryhammer since day 1, so NO  :lol :lol I even have a drunkenly signed copy of the third album by Chris...

:lol  nice alright alright i won't drag you to see them, but I still think their set may be the biggest party of the show.  Glen (PPUSA organizer) had thier album as his #1 in his top 50 last year.

Oh no doubt it'll be a wild time. One of the first times I saw them the stage had no less than 2 handles of Captain Morgan, weird sunglasses, a guest appearance from that other Philly-based pirate band and a giant human-sized chicken.  :lol

Alestorm released on youtube an entire professionally done concert from 2019 today

ALESTORM - Live in Tilburg 2019 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MSm_rikiDp0)

Just put it on and so far this is AWESOME, well done and cool vibe from the show.  Reminds me of seeing them twice in 2018.   :metal :metal Definitely making today a much better day

Hmm, odd, I recall commenting on No Grave But the Sea and how that album is excellent. Maybe in a non-Alestorm general thread.

That live concert looks great, will watch more of it. I have seen them live once (at 013 as well) and it was a lot of fun, though unfortunately the sound was just too loud at times.

I was watching it yesterday, it was great and being from Mexico, it is always fun to hear that song live. I still haven't had the chance to see them live, I hope I will soon.

I'm also in my first listens. I'm digging it! It's fun and really catchy metal. I'm also digging the rapping in "Tortuga" and it was nice to hear the spanish-spoken part in "Wooden Leg Part 2" (since that's my native language).

They did a sabaton song too a couple weeks ago, so funny both of these  :lol and I say that loving Alestorm and Sabaton more than DragonForce, Herman Li has been doing a lot of cool stuff on twitch lately

That one was great as well.

I laughed hard when the other guitarist said something like "it's funny, these are the same chords as a DragonForce song except way slower."
