Title: Nekov's Roulette N°5 v. Round 6 Results! Send Round 7
Post by: Nekov on October 24, 2016, 07:11:57 AM
Hello everyone and welcome to my new roulette. I will keep this one simple, it will consist of 10 players and 8 rounds. Most of those will be open but I might throw a theme or 2 in there to spice things up. Scores will be given between 1 and 10. You should know I'm not afraid to give out low scores but please don't feel bad if you get one, it just means that my music taste is different than yours and that's not bad. I would prefer to have people that haven't participated in my previous roulettes but I may need some to fill in the 10 spots so we'll see.
You can look up my previous roulettes in the archive if you want to have a notion of how I run these things and what kind of music usually goes well with me.
Speaking of which, below you'll find the "small" banned list below. It contains the bands that I have listened to a lot and that I enjoy. It might not be complete so I might reject something you send if I missed it. There are also a number of bands that are not in this list that I have listened to extensively but can't say I like, i.e. Symphony X or Mogwai.
Regarding bands that are sent during the roulette, any band that scores a 6 or higher will be band for future rounds, if it got a lower score I'll give it a second chance. I'll update the list as this thing goes on.
Preferred method of submission is Spotify so I can make a playlist. If you don't have spotify you can send youtube, bandcamp or whatever suits you best. If you want to send me an audio file, ask for my email.

So, if you feel like it please join and let's have some fun

So I checked the v.4 Roulette, and was surprised to see I participated. I had zero recollection of doing so. Then I saw that I lost a first round match up. No wonder I don't remember! :lol
Hopefully, I'll make it out of the first round this time.

Scores! This time it's not a joke!!

Or is it....

twosuitsluke: Leprous - Third Law

I think people have sent me this band before with similar results. I like the intensity of this song and some of the melodies, particularly the chorus however as with much of the prog metal this days it seems to me like they're trying too hard which makes it sound forced. Aside from those little things I liked this song has nothing social to offer to me

Score: 4

Scar: Opeth - Harvest

I had listened to heritage and enjoyed it a bit but never gave a chance to their previous stuff because I was warned it was mostly growling. This song doesn't have those which is good but unfortunately it doesn't have much to offer either. The acoustic guitar melodies are nice and enjoyable but overall the song has this depressing atmosphere to it that just bums me.

Score: 3

TAC: Heart Of Cygnus - Sailing North

This is fun. At first I was worried that I would get tired of this song but after many listens it stays as fun as the first time. Even though it’s quite simple it keeps me entertained and wanting to sing the chorus each and every time, great song to rock live. It also has a nice instrumental section in the middle that is pretty good and fits the song perfectly. All that being said, this song should finish at the 4 minute mark, everything that comes after seems very out of place and really brings the song down. Given the name of the album and the song I gather this is a concept album so given more context it might work, but as a standalone song it doesn’t.

Score: 6

Big Hath: Thank You Scientist - Suspicious Waveforms

Now this song is fun in a way it had me dancing a bit while listening to it. It's not easy to find a modern band that can mix jazz with other styles in such a good way. The instrumentation is all over the place but in a good way, specially the trumpet and that's weird for me cause I usually don't enjoy wind instruments so much. A special mention to the guitar solo as well, while it diverts from the jazzy/funky vibe it still fits perfectly well. I'm not a fan of the ending of the song but it's not so bad as to ruining it for me.

Score: 8

Train of Naught: Ivar Bjørnson & Einar Selvik's Skuggsjá - Skuggsjá

There are a lot of elements in this song that I like, the main one being the intro, so smooth and peaceful however this is clearly one of those songs that I can only truly enjoy if I'm in the right mood. I listened to it yesterday night while going back home, it was dark and a bit cold, not many people on the streets and at that particular moment the song clicked with me on many levels. The other listens didn't have that impact. Still, the string melodies all over the song are quite good, the vocal melodies as well but not so much the recited words, that was a weird fit in the song.

Score: 5

Fluffy Lothario: Tangerine Dream - Movements of a Visionary

Strangest song of the round by far. I had heard of these guys but never got to listening to them. I feel like this is a great song to listen to while watching a live ISS feed because it's so dreamy at times and sci fy esque. The core of the song is pretty good with the synth melodies creating a soothing atmosphere but at the same time doing a great job at not being boring. The random sounds here and there sometimes work and sometimes don't but overall it was enjoyable on every listen.

Score: 6

Tomislav95: Alter Bridge - Blackbird

This song is not bad but it doesn't do anything for me. Good intensity and some nice melodies in the little instrumental break but overall quite forgettable.

Score: 4

Sacul: Gazpacho - Chequered Light Buildings

This is one of those songs that's all about the mood but when you pay attention to it there are lots of small details that are really good. The piano is the star of the song driving with a beautiful melancolic melody, the strings behind it providing an excellent support. Unfortunately for the song it goes down when the distorted guitar comes in because it breaks the great mood they created. I wish they had worked on that initial part a bit more, I really enjoyed it.

Score: 5

King: The Fringe - Flare

I never know what to expect out of supergroups, sometimes they are amazing but other times they disappoint so much. This is somewhere in the middle, it has a bunch of really good things like Nick’s drumming which is usually great, the melodies are quite nice and the vocals also stand out a lot. However this song suffers from trying to do too much which is reflected in the long instrumental in the middle, it kind of comes out of nowhere and bares no relation to what comes before or after. It has some good moments but overall it brings the song down.
Had you stayed with the single edit version you could have gotten another point.

Score: 6

Elite: Agent Fresco - See Hell

I had many change of hearts with this song. Every listen was quite different which speaks really good about it.  I'm not a fan of the singers voice but I am of the rest of the song. I have a hard time pointing out something specific about it, it just seems to me that the song overall is well crafted, time signatures being handled really good and the instruments fitting each other.

Score: 7

Don't really know Nekov or his tastes, and the Round 1 write ups didn't help.

I've been surprised, in my roulette, how my opinion was bang on after one listen to a high proportion of songs. That being said I couldn't see my score being fair after only three listens. I'm aiming for 8-10 listens generally, but my current round is difficult as the average song length this round is just under 7 minutes with 12 participants

That's the cool thing about running a roulette. You get to set your parameters different each time you run one.  So since this is Nekov's 5th, this gives him a fresh perspective running the game.

Round2 Results

Tomislav95: Caligula’s Horse - Marigold

This song reminded me a bit of Symphony X because of the “Egyptian” vibe. This is not really my type of prog metal, I’m more a fan of cleaner melodies, not so mixed with hammering. I did like the song, don’t get me wrong, it has a couple of nice melodies when they’re not doing full on metal and I find it to be very consistent and having a good flow overall but again, just not my type of prog metal.

Score: 5

twosuitsluke: John Frusciante - A Song to Sing When I'm Lonely

I’m not a fan of RHCP so I never thought about checking John Fusciante out and I had a little of a bad pre-judgement but this song took me by surprise. It’s just a beautiful song, it’s very well crafted and the vocal arrangements give it a nice edge and make it interesting even though it’s a simple song. Great choice

Score: 7

Scar: Sirenia - The Twilight in Your Eyes

What really stands out to me about this song is the singer’s voice, quite beautiful and put to a good use. I also like the keyboard and string arrangements quite a bit however it’s just bits and pieces, the song overall doesn’t really stand out much. I don’t dislike it but I don’t think it has anything special to offer.

Score: 4

TAC: Hangar - The Infallible Emperor

That intro sure is misleading. Obviously Achielles being the drummer this was going to be power metal but I had a glimpse of hope for a couple of seconds. His drumming is exactly what I expect from him, powerful with a couple of nice touches here and there and that’s as much as I can compliment that song. Another case of a song I didn’t dislike but that I don’t feel has anything special to offer.  It feels like it’s trying to be Angra but missing the really good stuff.

Score: 5

Fluffy Lothario: Machine Head - A Thousand Lies

Well, after just a few seconds I could see why you mentioned Pantera in your message when referring to this band because this sounds just like Pantera but not as good. What really makes Pantera special is Dimebag’s guitar playing and Vinnies drumming that feels like someone’s pounding on your chest. I didn’t get that from these guys. It’s good 90’s metal but I would rather listen to Pantera.

Score: 5

Train of Naught: Dreadnought - Minuet de Lune

All the first section of this song is wonderful, they manage to create a somber yet attractive atmosphere lead by that amazing and haunting voice. I feel like the transition to the next part of the song is a bit abrupt and breaks that great mood it managed to create but after adjusting it starts delivering some great music again. I love the flute solo, it’s hard to get one into a song that fits as well as this. Everything else in the song is also pretty good, the guitar melodies change a lot and give the song a lot of diversity and the rhythmic section is top notch. The abrupt ending leaves me hanging and wanting more every time.

Score: 8

King: Bent Knee - Leak Water

It took me a couple of listens to really get this song because it’s weird, that initial part with the repeating sound and the singer almost drives me crazy but fortunately the rest of the band comes in just in time to rescue the song. They create an amazing sonic experience, the rhythm is ever changing, great string arrangements, overall it’s so good. This is one of the few times I will say the song benefits from the abrupt changes and the broken flow, that’s a huge part of it.

Score: 8

Big Hath: Soul Secret - Aftermath

Someone’s been attending Jingle Boy’s school for cheaters! I could immediately recognize Arno Menses’ voice which got me engaged to the song. It’s hard to describe this song because it’s so long and has so many different sections but I will say a couple of things. First of all, I liked how even though the song goes through so many changes it manages to remain consistent and for the most part the transitions are pretty good. Sometimes the flow breaks a little bit but they pick it up pretty quickly. The instrumentation is excellent, whether they’re playing metal, prog, or the more smooth parts. My favorite part of the song is the Jazzy instrumental around the 5 minute mark, it kinda comes out of nowhere and then slips away into oblivion yet it feels like it should be there.

Score: 9

Sacul: Bent Knee - Being Human

Even though this one is very different from the one King sent there are similarities in how the song is structured and how the break in the flow is used as an advantage. Just read that review and you’ll get the gist of what I would say about this song. Though I’ll add something, I think what I like the most about this band is how well they manage contrast.

Score: 8

Elite: Thoughts Factory - No Way Out

:metal This is one of those songs I could see myself rocking out at a concert and having lots of fun. I don’t find it to be particularly special but as I said before, it’s pretty fun and has some good headbanging moments. I also like the use of the synths to create a nice background atmosphere.

Score: 6

Glad you liked it and fair assessment about the ending, though that problem is fixed when listening to the album, it's a great album honestly.

There's some screams on the album too, I'd even argue that they're more common than the cleans (though I'm not familiar enough with the album to tell for sure), kind of in the vein of Alcest but not as powerful.

Oh and I'll send today if I don't forget.

As promised, here are Round 3 results

Tomislav95: Okkervil River - For Real

This is a nice song. I like the overall feeling it generates, smooth and peaceful even though it has some sharper things in it. I’m not very fond of the singer here, in the smoother parts his voice is really nice but when he goes to the higher tones his voice breaks a bit and kills it a bit for me. I’m not a big fan of the guitar effect they use but again, nothing that messes the overall song too much.

Score: 6

Fluffy Lothario: Ben Howard - Promise

Now I’m really digging this one, the mix of smooth guitar, the water sounds and the mix of voices makes this for such a soothing and relaxing song. I also like that it doesn’t stay in that initial and simple melody but it builds up on that, changes the melody and the string arrangements come in to give it another edge. Really beautiful song.

Score: 8

King: Aisles - Sorrow

Another soothing and relaxing song with very nice guitar melodies and great vocal melodies as well. I specially like that the percussion is a bit busy but fits perfectly the song not breaking that nice relaxing mood. Even when it picks up and gets a little more intense it still manages not to break the mood. Everything falls in place here really, great song.

Score: 8

Train of Naught: Skyharbor - Patience

I think I got something from these guys before but I remember it being metal as fuck, maybe my memory is playing games with me. Anyways, another beautiful and peaceful song with great melodies and string arrangements. This one has a higher tempo than the previous ones and has a “heavier” guitar but still manages to calm me down and let me get into the flow easily. I really enjoy the chorus in this one, that’s my favorite part of the song because of how the vocal melodies and the guitars interact, plus those guitar melodies are quite beautiful.

Score: 8

TAC: Glass Mind - Haunting Regrets

Another metal song that I find to be OK, it has some nice keyboard melodies throughout the song and some parts of the instrumental in the middle are nice but I think in the end that instrumental suffers from trying to do too much, at some point it just feels like they’re trying to show off and that throws me off. Overall I wouldn’t say it’s a bad song, but I wouldn’t say it’s a good song either.

Score: 5

twosuitsluke: Danzig - Her Black Wings

Well, I can see the Elvis comparison here, this guy’s voice is fucking powerful and he knows very well how to use it and I think he chose the right kind of music to take advantage of it. However as great as that is, the music on the back is pretty boring to me. I’ve never been a fan of music where the vocals are the central part of the song and the rest of the band just sets the stage for the singer to shine. Not a bad song, but not my cup of tea

Score: 5

Big Hath: Speaking to Stones - Water

This song has a great buildup. It starts very calm and slowly picks up, never too abruptly and always maintaining a similar mood, that’s something I really appreciate. I really enjoyed the drumming and the chorus here, the first standing out because he manages to do lots of interesting things without being excessive, the second one because it’s really nice. I do find some of the guitar arrangements here and there to be a bit cringe worthy and breaking the flow of the song a little bit, the solo also seems a little excessive to me and messes up with the flow as well, but overall I like this song.

Score: 7

Sacul: Sufjan Stevens - John Wayne Gacy Jr

This song is so solid, I like everything about it. The melodies, the mood, the contrasts, even the lyrics which normally I don’t pay a lot of attention to. And of course I love how strong a feeling it generates. I just wish it was a little longer so I could enjoy it more. I think there are very few songs that deserve a 10 and this is not one of them, but it comes pretty close.

Score: 9

Scar: Chevelle - Shot from a Cannon

I’m really not a fan of slow tempo metal like this, specially that bass guitar which sounds pretty powerful but it’s not really my cup of tea. Sorry dude

Score: 2

Elite: Groove Therapist - Mr. Funker

I have very mixed feelings with this song. On one hand I enjoy the funky/groovy mood of the song and I like that they are able to mix it with prog structure, it actually had me dancing here and there. On the other hand, I get a bit thrown off by that same great instrumentation because the song loses it’s flow right after the chorus which is a shame because I really enjoy the chorus. I’m also thrown off by those laughs right before the chorus, they seem so out of place. So overall there’s a lot that I like about the song but there are some things that kill the song here and there, specially the ending, it seems so out of place.

Score: 5

That Ben Howard song is from his debut, which is all over the place stylistically. There's quieter stuff, louder stuff, happy stuff, sad stuff, quite poppy stuff, deep cuts. I guess he was tossing ideas around to find his style. It's all good, just don't expect an entire disc of that, is all I'm saying.

His second album is much better, more unified, and goes much deeper, but it takes more listens to sink in, hence why I didn't send something off of that.

Yeah most of their songs are djent and reasonably heavier instrumentally, but they still make some solid atmospheric progressive metal imo. As far as I'm concerned, Patience is their best song though.

Sending for the next round right now!

Sorry for making you wait guys, but finally here are the Results

Round 4 Results

TAC: Enshine - Echoes

As you said, this is some good music. I especially like the guitar melodies, they make a good contrast with the rest of the band that’s delivering a more powerful approach to the song. I would say the instrumental part of the song fits very well together, it’s entertaining and varied. Unfortunately for you I really can’t look the other way when it comes to the growls, at least here, it really kills the song for me which is a shame. There are very few instances in which I can look the other way and it’s usually when the growls are “lighter” so to speak (Devin Townsend, Alcest). Good try though.

Score: 5

Fluffy Lothario: Jeff Buckley - Mojo Pin

This song has a really nice intro, very soothing and slowly growing. I would say this is the exact opposite to that Danzig song I got earlier, I really enjoy the music but I find the singer’s voice to be a little annoying but strangely it’s not always like that, there are some passages of the song where I like how he’s singing and I feel like it fits perfectly buy for the most part I think I would enjoy the song a lot more if it was just an instrumental.

Score: 5

Train of Naught: Sean Ashe - Imagine

This is just a beautiful and relaxing song. I love the mix of acoustic and electric guitars, together they generate a contrast that makes them fit perfectly well. The piano section is also pretty good because again, the contrast in mood with the previous and upcoming sections is just fantastic and let’s face it, I’m a sucker for a good piano. The rhythm section does exactly what it’s supposed to, with some very nice details here and there that really help the song never to get boring. Luckily the guy displays his good technique but not overdoing it.

Score: 8

Tomislav95: Bon Iver - Skinny Love

So, this is Bon Iver. I’ve always seen it labeled as the band douchebag hipsters like so I never paid attention to it but I think I’ll need to change that. I like that this sounds raw, it gives the song a nice edge that goes perfectly well with the anguish the singer seems to be expressing. I like his voice, I like how simple the music is and how well it manages to transmit emotions. Overall a pretty good song.

Score: 7

King Umphrey’s McGee - Hourglass

Nice rocking tune. It’s pretty basic and doesn’t stray too far from a comfortable zone but it still gets the job done. There’s not much else I can say about it.

Score: 6

Big Hath: Tower of Power - Squib Cakes

Nice funky Jazz. I’m usually not a fan of wind instruments but I have to admit that they work very well within this song even when they are leading. Very nice instrumentation overall and a very nice vibe that kept me dancing even when I was sitting. The song loses my attention just a little bit when it slows down, that seems pretty out of place but they manage to pick it up quite nicely so no major harm done.

Score: 7

twosuitsluke NOFX - The Idiots are Taking Over

I usually don’t like punk but this was super fun, especially considering the latest political context. I would normally score something like this a 5 but I liked the little ska section and how suddenly it goes back to full punk.

Score: 6

Elite: Amplifier - Neon

The intro is very nice, I would have liked for them to explore that a little more or at least make the change a little more progressive (not as in more prog rock, but slowly growing). After that the song is pretty standard if you ask me, nothing really interesting or worth coming back for. Sorry.

Score: 4

Sacul: Kashiwa Daisuke - City in the Lake

Who would have thought Sacul would send pretentious music? :P All kidding aside, the first 2 minutes of the song are pretty forgettable, right until the strings come in, that’s when everything starts having true coherence and making sense. From that point on there’s a really slow buildup where the piano stands out above the rest. I normally like slow buildups but this one was a tad too slow, not timewise but given the mood it could be quicker. When it picks up it’s a nice Jazzy song but far from your regular Jazz because of the string melodies and assorted arrangements, those add a special touch to it. All that section before the song slows down is very, very good unfortunately I get really bored before and after it even though there’s great music all over this.

Score: 5

Scar: 7 Rejected songs

Dunno if this has been mentioned, but is there a max time on songs we submit?

And if so, will there be an epics round, perchance?

Guys, based on a comment Fluffy made in the PM he sent me with the new song I want to clarify something, I want songs that make me smile which is not the same as make me laugh. I'm not looking for comedy, I'm looking for something that puts me in a smiling mood. That being said, if any of the 2 people that already sent want to re-send please do so.

No max time but if you're thinking of sending a long song read my comments on Sacul's song from last round. And no, there will not be an epics round.

Care to give some examples of what makes you smile?

The Latest 2 or 3 albums by Anathema have several songs that put a smile on my face, like Everything, Sunlight, Lightning Song. Calamity Song by The Decemberists is a guaranteed smile. Surrounded, Solitary Shell by DT. Bound by Gravity by Haken. Most of Karmakanic.

Post by: Nekov on November 21, 2016, 06:30:01 PM
Ok guys, before posting the results I want to apologize with you because evidently I wasn't clear with what I was looking for this round. I thought the list of songs I put as an example would help guide you but going back through the thread I realize some of you might have missed that comment.

Round 4

Scar: Opeth - Faith in Others

I enjoyed this one a little bit better than the previous Opeth song, I think mostly due to the string arrangements and the nice guitar melodies. The somber mood in this one is very well crafted and explored. This is still not my cup of tea but I found it to be very interesting nonetheless.

Score: 5

Round 5

TAC: The Sweet - AC/DC

Pretty standard song, good ol rock and roll but nothing really special. I got a bit bored of it after a couple of listens because it’s repetitive and has nothing special to offer really.

Score: 3

Fluffy Lothario Movits! - Sammy Davis Jr.

Well, this is not something I would sit down and listen to, wouldn’t be bothered by it if it was being played in the background, but it’s not the kind of music I dig. As with the previous song, it’s a bit repetitive and doesn’t offer anything special to me.

Score: 3

Elite: Ben Folds Five - One Angry Dwarf and 200 Solemn Faces

I think people have sent me this band before for the smiling round in one of my previous roulettes, I think it was DTVT and unfortunately it achieved more or less the same result. I’m a sucker for a good piano, but here it’s just a bit meh, I feel like they’re not taking advantage of how awesome this instrument is. The rest of the band doesn’t do anything for me either.

Score: 3

Big Hath: Snarky Puppy - Amour t’es la

Another song that just really doesn’t do it for me. French music has always been one of those things that doesn’t bother me but doesn’t do anything for me either. I will say though the drum section in the middle is quite nice, but that’s as much as I could enjoy this song.

Score: 4

Train of Naught: Closure in Moscow - Seeds of Gold

This song started pretty good and for a moment I though it could go into and interesting place but then it turned out to be a pretty standard song. It has some nice guitar, I’ll give you that and it changes enough that it’s not boring however it doesn’t do anything interesting enough to catch my attention and make me want to listen to more.

Score: 4

twosuitsluke: Frank Turner - Photosynthesis

Another song that got me interested as soon as it started but before 30 seconds pass it’s a train wreck. The cadence of the song throws me off and I don’t like the guy’s voice. It does have some interesting string arrangements here and there.

Score: 3

Tomislav95: Arcade Fire - Rebellion(lies)

I really enjoyed this one from the get go. Even though the melodies are a bit repetitive they’re used to create a nice atmosphere, and when the rest of the band comes in just adds a nice new layer to everything. I enjoyed the violin quite a bit, it adds a nice touch whenever it comes in. Not exactly what I was looking for but it did the trick. Bonus point for you.

Score: 7

King: A.C.T - A Truly Gifted Man

This song has an interesting mix of things, at first I thought it was going to be the regular rock/reggae tune but I was pleasantly wrong. The song is very fun, it mixes both styles quite well and has some very good wind arrangements which as I said before I usually don’t enjoy, but they fall perfectly in line here. I especially love the instrumental in the middle, it’s very different from the rest of the song but it doesn’t feel out of place at all. Bonus point here for getting a smile out of me.

Score: 8

Scar: Jimmy Eat World - The Middle

Another song that just doesn’t do anything for me, it’s pretty standard by all means.

Score: 3

Sacul: Lord Huron - Ends of the Earth

This is a nice soothing song, it really made me relax. I’m having a hard time pinpointing exactly what I like about it, I think it’s the overall mood. It’s pretty enjoyable. This is more along the lines of what I was looking for but it fell a bit short.

Score: 5

Round 6 Results

Big Hath: Magic Pie - Slightly Mad

I think Elite had sent me something by these guys in a previous roulette which I really enjoyed, unfortunately it was not the case with this song. It’s too all over the place prog and though it reminds me of ELP, which I love, I get the feeling that they’re trying too hard to throw prog in there. There are some good melodies and musical section but overall it ends up boring me

Score: 4

Tomislav95 Klone - Nebulous

I like the slow pace the song starts with and the como of guitar melody with the guy’s voice, they mix together pretty well however when the heavier guitar comes in it brings the song a bit down for me because that’s when I stop enjoying the slow pace of the song. Other than that I find this song quite enjoyable.

Score: 5

Train of Naught: An Endless Sporadic - Through the Fog

This song has a nice and slow buildup, even though I didn’t enjoy it that much it serves pretty well to the piano that comes right after and creates a nice set up to the rest of the song. Talking about that rest of the song it has quite a few things that I like, some nice melodies and good interactions between the instruments but it also has what I like to call “Needles prog”. There are some things in there that seem to be there just to show musicianship and break the flow of the song but for the good of the song it’s just a few things. Overall this song is really good. I really like that it ends so unexpectedly but still leaving the feeling that it was supposed to end.

Score: 7

King: This Day & Age - More of a climb, less of a walk

This is hands down one of the best songs I’ve gotten so far. Every single listen was pure enjoyment and left me wanting more of these guys. The song is crafted very nicely, the management of the tempos and when to slow down or pick up the pace is excellent, the instrumentation all over the song is super nice and I quite like the singer’s voice. Special mention for the drummer, everything he does in the song is fantastic.

Score: 9

twosuitsluke: The Skints - Can’t take no more

Well, pure reggae has never been my thing, except for Bob Marley but it’s music that unless it sucks pretty bad I don’t have a problem with. This one in particular is quite enjoyable, not sure I would sit down and listen to it but I don’t mind it at all.

Score: 5

Fluffy Lothario: Van Morrison - Astral Weeks

I’ve seen this guy’s name around but never got down to see what he was about. This is one of those things that I’m not sure if I’d sit down and listen for myself but I do find pretty interesting, the song overall is really nice. I like the the vibe it carries which makes me calm down and I also really like the flute, it seems a bit out place but at the same time it works perfectly, it’s kind of weird. The guitar is simple but carries the song perfectly, the guy’s voice is OK but fits the song to perfection and the assorted arrangements here and there help the song to never get stale. Again, very nice song.

Score: 7

TAC: Flotsam & Jetsam - L.O.T.D

This metal is very 90s but it’s more or less what I like when it comes to kickass metal. Powerful guitars, powerful drums, powerful vocals but not overdoing anything. It also has some nice riffs and short and concise solos, also not overdoing it in that area. The break in the middle is a bit weird but they manage to pick it up very well after that. Solid song

Score: 6

Sacul: Janelle Monae - Cold War

This song is very Sacul :lol. That means it’s a hit or miss song, in this case it’s a hit. The singer’s voice is absolutely beautiful and I feel all the song is crafted around that so everything is in there to strengthen that aspect. I like how the electronic drums are used, sometimes those lack some feeling but here they serve their purpose. I also like that pseudo guitar solo almost at the end, it’s kinda weird but goes well with the song.

Score: 7

Elite: Talking Heads - The Great Curve

This song is kinda weird, but good weird. It has a funky vibe with a kinda latin percussion that had me dancing in my sofa. The singer’s voice is a bit hard to get into and I don’t think I managed to like it but it surely doesn’t bother me now as it did the first time. What I would stand out about the song is the backing vocals, whenever they come in they make the song much more interesting and of course that Crimsonian guitar, I recognized Adrian Belew immediately (I googled just to be sure :P).

Score: 8

Scar: Modest Mouse - Float On

Another funky song that had me almost dancing while listening to it. I really love the melodies in this song, they’re almost psychedelic yet they manage to not go over the top and keep the song “danceable”. I really enjoyed listening to this song, it puts me in a good mood.

Score: 7

Wow King is on a roll! Don't think I have a chance of winning anymore but I'm glad you're liking (most of) what I am sending, I'll send today.

One bad song and it's anyone's game.  I feel good about the next song I sent.  I know it's not TAC approved.  :lol

From what I've heard, Nekov was so shocked that Fluffy won the entire roulette, he ripped his own face off and now lives as a hermit in the hills beyond sundown.

I'm terribly sorry guys! I've been extremely busy lately and haven't had time to sit down and dedicate time to this. I really want to apologize to you all, I promise I'll try to get this done sometime soon.

So a win calling the game after 7 innings because of rain?

I'd rather just wait until you have the time to finish but if not I'll take a win.

Well for now I'll consider you on hiatus. If that ends up being indefinite then so be it, but the option to continue it will always be there. So if you have time in a few months or something and feel like doing that, just let me know.
