also some things you may wanna put up:
how many players?
how many rounds?
any themed rounds?
any length limit on songs?
Title: Re: Scar's Very First Roulette (Hopefully nothing goes wrong....)
Post by: Scar on August 15, 2016, 08:22:42 PM
Thanks Parama.

How many rounds are usually played? Also, what is a themed round?
Title: Re: Scar's Very First Roulette (Hopefully nothing goes wrong....)
Post by: Crow on August 15, 2016, 08:39:01 PM
Themed rounds are generally like, looking for a specific style or sound, or maybe song length. There's some rounds like "dark" rounds and "happy" rounds that are more for hitting a certain emotional mood, "opener" and "closer" rounds for songs providing those sorts of feelings, "gentle" rounds and "heavy" rounds for loudness, "short song" rounds and "epic" rounds for briefer or more extensive tracks, etc, you can basically just make up your own if you want too  :lol

also i will heavily advise against such a long song length limit, 'cause even at 8 people per round, if everyone sends a huge epic song you're gonna end up with 3-4+ hours of music  :lol
10-12 tends to be a good standard for the average round with something like 50 minutes being good for the aforementioned epic round but i'll leave it up to you to decide what you wanna do, just warning you ahead of time mostly  :corn

Determined to do win one of these things  :lol

Also gotta agree with Parama, the goal is to send you a pop song you will like. I generally dislike pop but there are always exceptions  :hat

Yeah sadly, but I still have a really good 41 minute song.

Scar, if you're curious about certain rules or how people handle certain kind of things in roulettes you can check out some of the past roulettes in the tracker thread, or some of the current ones. (mine's the best) That's what I did and I did fuck up a few things but overall I got a pretty good grasp on it.

For instance, some basic info on your musical background is something people do to make the participants familiarize them with your tastes and such, the only source we have now is the banned list which is fine, but sometimes bands on that list are just bands you know well but don't even like that much.

I think I got around 400 bands not on the banned list, I'll join. Depressing songs are a specialty of mine ;)

And like others said, you may want to re-think that song time limit.

Yep, if you really want to save time at any point during this roulette Scar you can always copy and paste write ups from previous roulettes of certain songs that will inevitably come up  :lol

I wanted to send The Mars Volta but somehow missed it on the banned list, could've sworn it wasn't on there. But nah I'm probably going with Dethklok this round.

Oh, don't you dare give me any pop songs. I hate them with a passion.

...

Banned stuff:

Coldplay
:neverusethis:

And what's the deal with The Winery Dogs being banned twice, are they super banned?
Title: Re: Scar's Very First Roulette (Hopefully nothing goes wrong....)
Post by: Elite on August 16, 2016, 05:26:14 AM
Yeah, their alter ego band 'The Booze Hounds' is banned as well.
Title: Re: Scar's Very First Roulette (Hopefully nothing goes wrong....)
Post by: TAC on August 16, 2016, 07:34:30 AM
Even though it's not deep, that's a pretty diverse banned list.

Also regarding themed rounds, for The TAC Roulette, I had a couple of rounds of bands I wanted to dig deeper on (well, sort of.. ;D).
So for example, I see that Iron Maiden is not banned. If you wanted to get a crash course in Iron Maiden, you could have a round dedicated to them. A great way to get a nice cross section of tracks.
Title: Re: Scar's Very First Roulette (Hopefully nothing goes wrong....)
Post by: Elite on August 16, 2016, 07:47:43 AM
Except that for those kind of rounds, everybody in the roulette must be familiar enough with Iron Maiden, but the idea in itself is great and the roulette format forces you to listen to that kind of stuff.

Yeah, I did it for two bands in my roulette, and not everyone was totally familiar with each, but as a way to dive into a band, I'd totally recommend it.

I'll send tomorrow after I finish work. So round one is an open round?

Or themed round: Song that has featured in over 5 roulettes already and got you a good score once so you milk that son bitch.

Ideas for other themed rounds:

Song that you like to have a bowel movement to
Song that you play to accompany cooking breakfast
Song that is depressing af but arouses you
Song that would be your entrance music if you were a wrestler
Song that motivates you to steal an animal from a zoo

I'll think of more tomorrow as I feel overtiredness is effecting my ability to filter my thoughts  :lol

I'm so tempted to send some obvious bands for a cheap score but am so far resisting. Don't want to be THAT guy!

I am going to win one of these without actively trying to win too hard. Guess I'll work out Scar's tastes the hard way.

Will send in the next hour, just choosing.

I did think about it but only because the other band I wanted to send was on the banned list first and I though TMV wasn't but apparently it was too and now neither of those bands is banned :lol this confuzzled me. It's definitely going into consideration for one of the future rounds though.

Yeah me too, and getting into a popular band might become a bit Ms. Leading if you don't get into them with the right song/album, so this way you can decide what they start off with.

I'm probably going to send a lot of popular stuff actually.

I'm just saying I don't want to become predictable in these things (not saying you are).

I'm going to take the reverse approach probably, send un-DTF stuff first, let you guys send all the big names, start with a low score then fill in what's left (of the regular DTF bands) in the last few rounds aaaaaand snatch the win  :hat

Just noticed Iron Maiden isn't banned either
someone should send These Colour Don't Run to piss 425 off

Lol I like These Colours Don't Run, I just think it's bonkers that it went to finals from that album. To me, it's like if a bunch of people got together and collectively rated The Answer Lies Within as the second best song on 8VM. Like, no?

Title: Re: Scar's Very First Roulette (Round 1: Open)

Sometimes, people guess who sent the songs, but that is often easier than guessing the songs. Mainly, the hangmanen is just a way to tide the time between you getting the songs and the results being posted, so it's just waiting for the results after that, mostly.

I've never won a single one :sadpanda: the only ones I even got close to winning were mikemangioy's and Sacul's. But knowing that my music is objectively superior to everyone else's is enough satisfaction :corn
Title: Re: Scar's Very First Roulette (Round 1: Open)
Post by: Evermind on August 19, 2016, 12:53:03 PM
To be honest, I feel I earned only one win out of four - the one in Bolsters' first roulette. My win in Sacul's was due to the awkward bonus points system (and because I had enough luck to beat Tyrias in the final round), I won Buddyhunter's because I was averaging each round with his ranking system and then I blew him away with that Avantasia song in the last round, and I have no idea how I've managed to win the recent mike's roulette. :lol

So yeah, I'm better at hangman than I'm at roulette-ing. Rouletting?

Not really, there's a handful of artists I like but only know a few albums of, Ihsahn is one of them (really only know Arktis and After). And I think if someone were to do this it'd be cool to include Emperor, a thread about anything Ihsahn-related. I would be interested in that since I've never listened to Emperor (that's the band Ihsahn used to be the frontman of IIRC)

Post by: Scar on August 20, 2016, 11:51:43 AM
Ok guys, here it is. I was super lenient here and everyone's song was awesome!
Now, for the results!

Train of Naught's: "Celestial Violence" by Ihsahn.
Score: 9/10
The growling was awesome, as was the clean vocals. The chorus where the singer growls: "Celestial Violence!" was the highlight of this song. Made me cosmically happy and helped me to reach beyond the stars.

Scoripon's: "Suicide" by The Devin Townsend Band.
Score: 9/10
I've never heard of this band before, but I have to thank you for introducing this band. The growls were awesome and the the song itself was super dark. It was almost all I asked for.  :metal :metal

Shadow Ninja's: "Landon Tewers" by Findlay
Score: 9.5/10
Ok, this song is so awesome. It's mood is awesome, the acoustic is awesome, the lyrics are awesome.....I can go on forever. This really struck a chord with me. Nice job!

Sacul's: "Routine" by Steven Wilson.
Score: 10/10
Perfect. This is the song I love. Another boost was that Steven Wilson worked with Opeth and I am currently in love with them right now. The length of the song is awesome and this song was perfect, filled with a lot of emotions. I was crying by the end of this song. Thank you. The girl's voice was also awesome. Really fits the whole atmosphere.

Lonestar's: "Frequency" by IQ.
Score: 8.5/10
In my opinion this is one of the best Neo-Progressive song ever written! Awesome introduction and transitioning to the riff was just awesome! Although there were some parts that irked me, it was still a very strong song nonetheless. Deserves all the praise it can get!

Elite's: "Pareidolia" by Haken.
Score: 10/10
Never has almost 11 minutes passed so fast! May I dare say that this song is the embodiment of prog metal? This reminds me of Dream Theater in many ways. Also, why does the song "Outcry" come to me, when I'm listening to this song? Real nice song and I'm wondering why I haven't heard about this band!

Tomi's: "The Thirst" by Enchant.
Score: 9/10
The acoustic introduction was what got me. I love anything that has an acoustic section in it. The drumming and the lyrics of the song was what stood out to me the most. Really enjoyable and would listen to it again anytime! Thanks Tomi.

Luke's: "Only for the Night" by RX Bandits.
Score: 9.5/10
Nice song! It was really catchy and that bass, man, the bass! At first I was skeptical that I might not enjoy ska, but after listening to this song, I didn't have to say anymore! Thanks so much Luke! Really enjoyed this song, even if there weren't people to share its awesomeness too.

Destiny of Chaos': "Epica" by Consign to Oblivion
Score: 10/10
The orchestra introduction hooked me immediately, and it stayed hooked until the end. This song is indeed "Epica." I've never heard of the band, but I'm glad you introduced this band to me. This song paved the way for many other songs. Ok, I just relistened to this song. It's really amazing! Love the whole orchestra thing. Reminds me a lot of Ayreon and Ayreon is awesome! Love the grunts and growls also!

Parama's: "Naif"/"Linear Failure"/"My Favorite Society Guy" by East of the Wall.
Score: 10/10
Bass in this album is kicking ass. Guitars are on fire, drums are to the point, vocals are amazing, and this album is a great find. I can now see why you call this the "Parama staple." And now I understand your Personal Text: "The Apologist." Had a blast listening to the 3 songs. Amazing, really.

Standing:
1) Elite - 10
2) Sacul - 10
3) Destiny of Chaos - 10
4) Parama - 10
5) Shadow Ninja - 9.5
6) Luke - 9.5
7) Train of Naught - 9
8) Scorpion - 9
9) Tomi - 9
10) Lonestar - 8.5

Round 2: Depressing Songs To Listen To While Cutting Yourself

Now, let's go on to round 2. This is a themed round. I love really sad songs. "Disappear" from Dream Theater is possibly my most favorite depressing song. Also, have you listened to Opeth's "In My Time of Need?"

Listen to both those songs. I want songs that are ballad and the criteria for the songs would be "Disappear" and "In My Time of Need." Any songs that come close to it or mirror it, will receive a perfect ten.

Lyrics that would fit well: Losing someone you love, this world has no more meaning, I've committed suicide and I am leaving this world all behind.

NO HARSH VOCALS WHATSOEVER

Received: Parama, Shadow Ninja, Tomi, Star, Sacul, Naught, DoC, Luke, Scorp

Songs still needed: Elite

Wow, high scores all round. I'm glad you liked RX Bandits, there was some serious competition in this round and I almost regretted sending it as I thought you might like everything else way more.

I know I said RX Bandits are like progressive ska punk but this song in itself is not actually really ska. As an overview of their sound across all their albums then ska is part of their sound.

If this continues this way it's clearly going to be a tight run thing.

Will send soon

I sent band that's pretty known here. But I just had to because I don't remember anyone else ever sending them (I did once) and I didn't wat OP to miss them.
I wanted to say maybe we've sent same band but then I realised which band you've sent :lol

I highly doubt it, no one has sent any popular DTF band so far whatsoever.

Listened to 3 songs. One was trash, one was meh and the last, I fell in love with hard core. Thank you so much for that.
Gotta wonder with all those insanely high scores which one was the trash song :lol

Sent bands don't have to automatically be banned. Up to the person running the game.

Adding to that, if you have a clear idea of what themes there will be in next rounds, can you list them in the OP as well? It makes it useful for deciding what songs to send in subsequent rounds and it allows for some planning ahead.

Nah Native Construct - Mute is 9.25/10 in my book tbh. I actually have a Native Construct song on my playlist for this roulette but it's not Mute. Will probably not send it anyway though because it's too poppy and Scar hates pop.

Can't wait for NC's follow-up album to blow Ruslans socks off.

Anyway, who is going to send Lorde this time? Scar would really like it I bet

Parama's: Brand New Limousine
9.5/10
Jesse's lyrics....is so haunting and so darn good. The song is dark and indeed depressing and it is gut wrenching to listen to. I broke down at the guitar solo and I felt like the poor girl's spirit was floating as the lyrics were being sung. The transition between perspective's was very flowing and it didn't disrupt the song at all.

Shadow Ninja's: Pete Yorn - "Lose you"
9/10
The introduction is the only reason why I docked a point off of this. The piano part onwards was awesome, but following before it, I didn't like it. RIP Lawrence Kutner. I didn't realize this song was for the show "House." Was a real pleasant surprise when I found out and I watched parts of it. I couldn't make it when Taub broke down. The song is really awesome...

Tomi's Katatonia - "The Racing Heart"
10/10
This song is a major yes. This song is really moving and the acoustic version of this is super beautiful also. My favorite lyrics was, "If I sow a wind now, I will reap a storm." This is basically a dark version of the Beatles. This is poetic, melodic, subtle, soulful..... It took me a few listens to get it, but once it did, it hit me like a lightning bolt. Really perfect.

Train of Naught's: Thrice - "Beggars"
10/10
One of the best outro's I've ever heard. It is simply stellar. This solo made my hair stand up. It blows me off my feet every time. What I've been going through, it physically hurts me every time I listen to this song, but the physical pain brings some pleasure. It is like what Petrucci wrote: "Bathing in beautiful agony....I am endlessly falling, lost in this wonderful misery...In peaceful sedation I lay half awake and all of the panic inside starts to fade....Hopelessly drifting, bathing in beautiful agony." Love that section to death, feel that section to death. I cry every time I listen, when I think about her....We are all beggars....

DoC's: Pain of Salvation - "Oblivion Ocean"
10/10
That voice is super awesome. This song is a magical song. "Oh god if you save them I swear I'll always hold them in my hand!" That is simply beautiful. This song is bitter sweet, but eventually, it is satisfying. It's like tak

Sacul's: David Bowie - "Lazarus"
10/10
I looked at the stars while listening to this song. The stars grew dimmer and dimmer as the song progressed. I. Can't. Stop. Crying. every time I listen to this song. It's emotionally painful, but I just love torturing myself emotionally. And the climax of this song.....it opens the floodgates and this song is one of the best ways to release my emotions in a flood. I end up crying hard or end up becoming filled with rage and I can't control myself. Thanks Sacul.

Lonestar's: Shattered Skies - "Aesthetics"
10/10
This song is awesome. At first I was skeptical because of the lack of views and such, but once I read over the lyrics and listened to it, I was instantly hooked. "Isolated, I am warped just like wood in choking heat." Definitely one of my favorite verse for this song. I really loved listening to this song and made some time to delve deeper into this band. Nice!

Luke's: Riverside - "The Depth Of Self" / "Delusion"
10/10
This song is so tranquil....The guitar theme that comes up at 4:15 is just intensely superb. I swear the singer sounds like Mikael Akerfeldt. This song is definitely a grower. I usually dislike growers, but they end up being my favorite. That happened to Opeth. Now they edge out Dream Theater. Nice!

Scorpion's: The Antlers - "Epilogue"
10/10
Another emotionally devastating song....I'm ok until he sings the first part of the chorus, then I break down and sob as memories hit hard. It's really brutal. Nice choice. Honestly, the acoustic guitar is spot on and his voice is awesome. Thanks a lot for this song.

Elite's: Anna Von Hausswolff - "Come Wander With Me" / "Deliverance"
9.5/10
This song helps me to detach from the world or sever my connection with it when I get frustrated with anything. Also, she's Swedish and my favorite band Opeth is Swedish. The voice is amazing, enchanting. This song is one fine piece of art, especially the heavy parts. Merci.

1) Sacul - 20
2) Destiny of Chaos - 20
3) Elite - 19.5
4) Parama - 19.5
5) Luke - 19.5
6) Train of Naught - 19
7) Scorpion - 19
8) Tomi - 19
9) Shadow Ninja - 18.5
10) Lonestar - 18.5

Round 3: All Harsh/ The No Mercy Round

I want this song to have absolutely NO MERCY at all. Everything must be harsh vocals (growls, screams, etc....). Songs that will make teenagers cry and run to their mommy or whatever. I want to hear the raw anger, the raw energy emanating from the songs. Good luck!

either you're too drunk to make sense or I'm too drunk to comprehend what you're on about

The theory that the are infinite parallel universes in which every possible eventuality is being played out. Like every decision you ever make, there is a parallel universe in which you made different decisions. So there is potentially a parallel universe in which the most underground shit you can think of is super popular.

As I said though, just a theory and not really relevant. What IS relevant is that I predicted my 10/10, just a shame everyone else did too  :lol

Parama's: Vektor - "Pillars of Sand"
10/10
It feels like all of the atoms in my body are shooting out at every direction possible into space. Blake with his blast beats, the intense shredding and the growls of this song. Oh my, the ecstasy :tup. This was my first time finding about this band, thanks to you and this band did not disappoint at all! Keep it coming Parama! I expect some pop songs that won't have me barfing all over the place!!

Tomi's: Death - "To Forgive Is To Suffer"
10/10
Great, intense music, but the drumming sometimes threw me off. Especially at 0:42. I found the song to be phenomenal. That growl is one of the best growls I have ever heard in my life. And God, the solo when the strings and drums link up, that was a nice move by Chuck. Really digging this band!

Lonestar: "Relentless" - Eviscerated
10/10
This is really, really impressive. I really am impressed by this song. This song speaks to me in many levels and I got a lot of weird looks thrown my way when I played this song on full blast. And that cover art man, so brutal! Definitely going to check this band out more. It was pure perfection.

Shadow's: The Dillinger Escape Plan - "Sunshine the Werewolf"
10/10
That is what I'm talking about baby! The part when the violin and cello comes on, gets me really excited. I love this singer's voice so much. This song has so much raw power coming from the introduction, it instantly got me hooked. This song is also well written and the drummer is flawless. Too bad, he left the band.

Luke's: At The Gates - "Slaughter Of The Soul"
10/10
GO!!! This music feeds my evil side and it makes it really restless. This was brutal enough Luke, thank you! I loved the riffs also! I love how it also has melody. Melodic death metal is awesome, not just 100% shredding the entire song. This is like melodic death metal in its purest form. It has finally emerged from the depths and had brought the heaviness and the melody it so desperately needed.

Sacul's: Converge - "Concubine/Fault and Fracture"
10/10
Wow, no kidding! It is really heavy. It sounds like a blender, an angry one at that. Even thought I couldn't understand the lyrics at first, when I looked at the lyrics, it all made sense to me. Same with Opeth. What turned me off was that I didn't understand what they were saying and I constantly needed the lyrics sheet, but not anymore. Thanks Sacul!

Scorpion's: Shining - "Manniska o' Avskyrda Manniska"
10/10
Jesus, that solo! OMG, that solo is awesome! The best solo ever! SOLO! SOLO! Tabs!
Those were the words that kept popping up in the comments section. I didn't care if it was in Swedish. I looked up the meaning and I loved it, but I now have something to say about this song too: DAT SOLO!!!

Elite's: Meshuggah - "Bleed"
10/10
Ooooh, so this was what Petrucci was referencing when he spoke about Meshuggah. And I'm wondering why I haven't discovered their band yet! Meshuggah is super heavy, just what I like about the band! The solo compliments this song well. This solo needs the song and the song needs the solo. I have been checking out Meshuggah's solo's and man, are they awesome.

DoC's - Dimmu Borgir - "Reptile"
10/10
When black :metal meets classical music. I loved 3:45, one of, if not the darkest piece of black metal I've heard in my life. And bastards in shape of angels XD
Wait, where have I heard of this lyric before? Listening to this song makes me want to sell my soul to the devil....and reclaim it back in in the end.

ToN's: Gojira - "The Gift of Guilt"
0/10
No, just no.
I'm kidding! 10/10. I was worried about your PM, but when I listened to it with some skepticism, I ended loving it~! I felt like I was entering a black hole and being ripped into billions of pieces....or whatever happens in a black hole. I loved the change at 2:25. Was sudden and unexpected, but was really satisfying. Thanks for sharing this song Mr. Naught. I greatly enjoyed it!

Standing:
1) Sacul - 30
2) Destiny of Chaos - 30
3) Elite - 29.5
4) Parama - 29.5
5) Luke - 29.5
6) Train of Naught - 19
6) Train of Naught - 29
7) Scorpion - 29
8) Tomi - 29
9) Shadow Ninja - 28.5
10) Lonestar - 28.5

I was being lenient for some songs. Bumped some 9.5's and I felt a bit pity for the next round, but overall, the songs deserve their scores.

Legit straight tens? Wow. I think I've given three perfect scores ever! :lol

Will be interested to see how dramatically that changes in the pop round. I trust Parama will send what I expect him to send.

Does next song need to really be pop or just poppy tune from any genre? Does indie pop or britpop count?

 :lol

You know, maybe when scoring, think of your alltime favorite songs, maybe your favorite Dream Theater song, or your favorite Opeth song. And then ask yourself: Are all these songs this good?

I mean, it's your roulette so it's all fine theoretically, but 10/10's start to lose their meaning when every single person gets them.

Anyway, for the poppy round, I'm wondering the same as tomislav.

Me 3. Should it just be a pop artist, or any artist that brushes up on a pop sound?

Parama's: fun. - Walking the Dog
3/10
Ok, I'm very sorry, but I absolutely LOATHE this song. The vocals in this song is annoying and I just couldn't bring myself to listen to this song. The music video was really creepy....
So yeah, sorry if I offended you, but this song isn't my cup of tea. Sorry. The comments were more enjoyable than this.

Naught's: Not Too Late - Lemaitre
7/10
The piano introduction was really soothing. The voice reminds me of Passenger. It was good. But, one of my pet peeves in music is whistling or snapping of fingers. Just like in "Danger Line" by Avenged, the whistling at the end annoys me to no end. This snapping did too, but it was still faint and the vocals were still louder, so it made it bearable.

Lonestar's: No More Words - Berlin
6/10
Not too shabby. The singer was really good, but I couldn't stand the retro. Retro aside, I loved that twinkling sound and the meaning of this song is really touching. The music video was also epic. And as you said, some extra points for hottie points!

Destiny's: Frozen - Madonna
7/10
Not bad! Really good singer. At first, looking at the title, I thought it had something to do with the movie Frozen. If that was the case, I would've have given the song a 0. I was scared it was Let it Go, but I realized that some others singer sings that. Really nice music video and has a very mysterious vibe to it, like I myself was being frozen. Solid effort.

Tomi's: Belle and Sebastian - Get Me Away from Here, I'm Dying
7.5/10
Really, really catchy song! I love Sebastian's voice and the guitar work is simply spectacular. I can't unhear this song and I usually hum this song randomly. I don't have much to say, but that it was a really catchy song. Loved the girl's back up and added more to the song.

Shadow Ninja's: Meiko - Leave The Lights On
6/10
Really good singer! This song also had that mysterious song vibe. At first, I was shocked that this song's remix had more views than this song itself. But this song must be that swell, in order if it to have a remix. Really good singer and enjoyed it.

Elite's: Dave Dee, Dozy, Beeky, Mick & Tich - The Legend of Xanadu
6.5/10
The singer's name made be burst out laughing at first. And wow, this song is really old! Normally, I don't like songs that are that old, but this song was pleasantly surprising. I really loved the guitar in this song and loved that really cool side effect with, what the heck was that?!! So yeah, really good song. I can't believe I'm saying this to a pop song.

Scorpion's: BEACH HOUSE - "MYTH"
9.5/10
This song is perfectly placed on a border between melancholy and sheer happiness. I loved the introduction of this song. I felt like I was in a dream. What is this, dream pop? I love melancholy lyrics and melancholy places like the beach, when it is really foggy and no one is there. Love mysterious places and this song made me feel like I was there. Brought back some nostalgia too. Perfect mix.

Luke's: Goodbye to Love by The Carpenters
8/10
You really struck a chord with the lyrics. I had to use all my willpower to not to break after her moving on. This brought back so much nostalgia and memory and descended upon me like a flood. Really nice song, the voice was comforting just like Scorp's song. Really beautiful song and greatly enjoyed it. Thanks Luke.

Sacul's: Susanne Sundfor - Accelerate
7.5/10
Wow, back to back to back songs that really bring the mood. I loved this song and the video. I understood what you meant by looking at the video to get it. The voice is really beautiful and mysterious, just what I like about vocals. And that is one of the reason's why I love Mikael Akerfeldt. Thanks Lucas.

Standing:
1) Scorpion - 38.5
2) Sacul - 37.5
3) Luke - 37.5
4) Destiny of Chaos - 37
5) Tomi - 36.5
6) Train of Naught - 36
7) Elite - 35.5
8) Shadow Ninja - 34.5
9) Lonestar - 34.5
10) Parama - 32.5

Post by: Scar on September 25, 2016, 11:50:56 AM
OK! So sorry for the long delay, here it is now. Jeez, that was long.

Sacul's - Kashiwa Daisuke - "City in the Lake"
10/10
Your song of the year is awesome! The piano introduction was amazing and I felt like I was in space, in a journey to find the greatest treasure. I fell asleep to this song once and thank you for this song. Now this song is on top of my playlist and I'm sure to listen to it, every single day! Really beautiful and brought me to tears. Everyone should cry when listening to this song. It's a crime not to.

Lonestar's - "Gaza" - Marillion
10/10
That was an amazing song! I really love long songs and you hit the nail in the head! At first, I was skeptical when I heard the introduction. Just something about it through me off, but that changed when I listened to the whole song! Really speaks miracles and wonders to me. Thank you very much for this song!

Shadow's - Wintersun - "Sons of Winter and Stars"
9.5/10
The introduction got me immediately hooked. It was like a barrage of missile's being fired at me. Absolutely love the vocals of this song. I felt the chills throughout the song and the keyboards and guitar do extremely well to bring the mood. Starting around 4:30, that melody had me closing my eyes and falling in love with it. Now, I have to listen to this song everyday. Nice choice!

Luke's - Mastodon - "The Last Baron"
9.5/10
Another extremely nice song! Again, this introduction is amazing! At first, when I listened to it, I didn't like it that much, but as I began listening to it again and again, my love for the song began rising and rising. Absolutely love the vocalist and I'm wondering why I haven't gotten into this band yet. And that riff around the 8 minute mark....that was amazing!

Scorpion's - Agalloch - "In the Shadow of Our Pale Companion"
9.0/10
Charming acoustic introduction. :tup I was really sad when I found out that Agalloch was no more, but it doesn't matter, as their legacy will live on. One thing I love are acoustic sections and this acoustic section was totally amazing! Just for that acoustic introduction, this song jumped up a lot. This song encapsulates almost all the emotions a person possessing an inquisitive mind and going through existential crises experiences. And it's pretty emotional to me too.

Train's - Native Construct - "Chromatic Aberration"
8.5/10
You were right Train. It was extremely hard to get to at the beginning and I had a hard time staying focused, but as time went on, it slowly began speaking to me. This reminded me of how I was introduced to Opeth. I couldn't bear myself to listen to it, but when I did, it slowly clicked. An amazing song really, don't know why people would call this song cheesy, but I thought it was pretty good!

Tomi's - "Sapphire" - Redemption
8.5/10
I fell in love with the vocalist immediately. This really was a good song and it was super emotional. It spoke to me in many, many levels. Wow, what a song! And it really sounded similar to Dream Theater and that is extremely good! Every 15 minutes was not a waste and was amazing!

DoC's - Iced Earth - "Dante's Inferno"
9/10
Thrash metal right? Is it normal if I heard traces of prog in there? Anyways, brutal song! The ending keys are absolutely beautiful, and definitely the best representation of the very last lines in the last canto of the Inferno. Even some hard ass black metal doesn't come close to this. Maybe it's the epicness in this song that makes it unbeatable. Kind of like Opeth, I guess, but this song can be dang heavier than Opeth!

Elite's - "I Am" - Theocracy
10/10
Amazingly beautiful cover, amazingly beautiful music, what isn't amazingly beautiful about this album? I've read the comments saying that this is a Christian song, but I can't really see that. You know, awesome just had a whole new meaning after I heard this song. It's super beautiful and man....So much wisdom in these lyrics, one can reflect upon it for hours.
Nice choice!

Train's - Native Construct - "Chromatic Aberration"

I couldn't bear myself to listen to it.

Yep.

Hahaha Chromatic Aberration is easily the worst song to start off with but I'm glad you at least partially liked it :lol this song makes more sense after you check out the album as there's a lot of recurring themes and stuff.

This round is easy as fuck. I won't play any games, sending the best Avenged Sevenfold song right now.

I don't think this round's theme is fair. I know like 2 songs by Avenged, and Train have sent one of them  at the same time there are bunch of songs by other bands that I (and others, I believe) would like to send instead.

yeah, don't do rounds like this  :lol

if i hadn't quit before the last round i'd 100% have quit here for sure

I know literally no Avenged songs, so...

I'd say, if you want to keep with this "get me into X band" thing, at least have 4 or 5 different, popular DTF artists we can choose from. Otherwise it's too restrictive.

Sacul, send "Hail to the King", that's one of their best songs

I have never listened to Avenged Sevenfold, so I'm giving you something else.

I'm still a bit confused as to why you're hosting this round after clearly making clear that you know all of their albums in the A7X thread?

Is there more than one person on that account or did you simply dislike the band so much that you have forgotten all of their songs apart from the 3 you mentioned + their worst album? If the latter is the case I don't see why you would host a round where you only get A7X songs.

tac hosted a winger round and gave everyone negative points in it, iirc

that was also really stupid though

Yeah but I feel like that was kinda in jest because everyone knows he hates Winger

Scar actually seems to like avenged sevenfold a lot already according to previous comments so that kind of ruins the entire goal of roulette's in general :lol

Okay, I'll send 'A Little Piece of Heaven' as well then. The link is in the PM Train just sent you.

a round where everyone gets 10/10 also kinda ruins the entire point to be fair  :P

Tbh, I copy and pasted the banned list and erased some artists I didn't know. Lets cancel this round and let me update the banned list. Once I do, it will be an open round.

I don't think you need to apologise dude. I know it kinda makes it a hard round for people to participate in if they don't know the band. I also agree that it could have been expanded a bit maybe to add a few other bands or something but all things considered this is your roulette. I know you don't want people to quit this thing but you definitely don't need to apologise.

I like themed rounds  this one may not have been the most all inclusive choice but at least you gave it a shot. I can send you my top 5 Avenged tunes along with my submission this round ok  :tup

Yeah, if it was the band everyone knew I wouldn't mind but A7X isn't really the most popular band here. It would be hard with any band really.

Luke, you can avenged if you want

And thanks. :tup
