Yes, all of it. There is no way I am not finding SOME WAY to see this, no matter where I have to go:
https://www.vai.com/passion-warfare-north-american-dates/
-
nowhere near me :'(
-
I'm just up the street from you, in Harrisburg, so I feel your pain. I feel pretty certain that once new dates are added, a Philly show will be added.
-
Yeah, I'm in the Pittsburgh area, so the OH show isn't too far, but hopefully a Pittsburgh date is added moving forward... I'd love to see this show.
-
This album is what made me realize that abusing six strings is the only way I wanted to live my life. I have to see this.
-
One of the greatest guitar albums ever, hands down.
-
There better be uk dates. I need to see Blue Powder live one last time.
-
Hopefully he films a DVD of this, would be awesome.
-
He probably won't, on account of him playing the guitar and all.
:vomitard:
-
While I would certainly be excited if he came anywhere near me and would probably go to see this, I would be even more excited if he would release new and inspiring music again.
-
Fantastic album. Would be cool to see!
-
I'm a fanboy, but not super big on P&W.
I'd be far more excited if he was playing Modern Primitive in its entirety. Besides, much P&W have been staples in his set for decades.
-
Somehow, I've yet to actually get to see Vai live. I've seen live videos and such, but I've never actually SEEN him live. So for me, there's no better time than when he's playing the whole album.

This was kind of my reaction as well. I mean, I liked the album a LOT when it came out, and I still enjoy it now. But since I've seen most of the songs live either in person or on his DVDs (or G3), it doesn't really excite me all that much that he is doing the whole thing.

I haven't managed to see him on his own. But then again, even though I love him as a musician and entertainer, I tend to start to lose interest in purely instrumental music through an entire set. When Satch co-headlined with DT, for example, I was bored to tears during his set. Vai is such an entertainer that he is definitely more fun to watch. But still, I probably wouldn't go out of my way to see him, especially to travel to do so, given that he has a few live DVDs. I did see him with WS on the Slip of the Tongue tour, however, and Vai got a solo spot in the middle of the set where he played The Audience Is Listening, For the Love of God, and another song from P&W (I don't remember which one), and it was really cool.

Don't you mean SEVEN strings?!? :metal
-
That's a good point, but I've often said that if I can't express what I want with 6 strings, then one more isn't going to make a difference.
-
I have absolutely no interest in 7 strings let along 8 or 9.
i tried an Ibanez RG9 slab body guitar and it sounded fucking dreadful.

I've seen him on the G3 tour with Petrucci and Satriani. JP is my favorite guitarist but Vai blew them all off the stage. It's completely mind-blowing just how good Vai is, and he does it so effortlessly. Also to his credit, he's exceedingly innovative. I hope I can see this P & W tour.

My '90 Ibanez RG 570 feels absolutely amazingly good. I replaced the pickups with aftermarket DiMarzios and it sounds great. Would probably sound better if the pickups that had been put in it were F-spaced for Floyd Rose bridges. Most of the pole pieces don't line up exactly. Drives me nuts.
-
I've seen Vai with Whitesnake on the Slip Of The Tongue tour, with Devin Townsend as singer on the Sex & Religion tour and with one of the G3 incarnations. Joe Satriani and we got Adrian Legg, an amazing acoustic guitar player.
Each time was great to see and hear Vai, he is a real entertainer with a great stage presence and, needless to say, an absolutely amazing musician. But his studio output since then was underwhelming for me. He can do so much more and he was ahead of his time back then. Now, as great as P&W was, it smells a bit of nostalgia and reliving the past.

Funny you should say that, because I had a similar thought. But I decided to keep it to myself because I recognize that I am sometimes fine with band's doing the nostalgia thing. I mean, sometimes, it makes perfect sense. If an album was truly a landmark album, and there is a landmark anniversary, it makes perfect sense. But outside of an anniversary, my reaction is a bit arbitrary. Upon further self-examination, I think what it comes down to is this: If it is an album I really, really like and am interested in hearing, my reaction is "It is a really good move on their part to bring it back and play it for the fans." If it isn't, my reaction is "Yeah, they're just playing the nostalgia card instead of being original." :lol

Did anyone pick up the new 25th anniversary edition with the bonus album thingy? I've grown out of listening to Vai albums and don't have that much interest but wondering if it's worth a listen.

It's worth a listen. Some good stuff, some too weird stuff, pretty much a Vai album. Some vocals in there too. I've only listened once so far though. Nowhere near enough with Vai.

I rented through netflix the G3 DVD with those three, mostly to see JP as I was am still am not familiar with Vai/Satriani. After watching, I totally agree, Vai blew them out of the water. HIs songs were AWESOME. JP's were really good too, I could not get into Satriani at all though. Really appreciate Vai's work after that.

surely its the romance talking, but right now Mod Prim feels like my favorite Steve album.
...but ya, it's at least worth checking out.

That's a damn big statement.

So I'm thinking "Maybe he'll release a date in Philly or something, sure it's an hour and a half drive, and I might get assaulted by meathead sportsball fans, but whatever, we'll do it."
Nope. No dice.
Instead, he schedules a show in HARRISBURG. MY TOWN. I could walk to the venue from my office.
On top of that? The ever awesome Mrs. C. decided that tickets would be my birthday present.
2nd.
Fucking.
Row.
I'm out of my mind, this is so damned cool.

That's pretty awesome, dude.
I hope he announces another leg that comes closer to me. I would love to see this show.

TONIGHT. I finally get to see Steve Vai live. I'm so fucking stoked.

How was it?
Sidebar: he is coming here next month, but I've never been a fan. Too bad, cause I know this album is highly regarded, and it will be great for fans of it.

This was easily one of the single greatest live experiences of my entire life. This album was monumental for me. Not only that, but the rest of the set was just as good as hearing the entire P&W album. Set list:
1. Bad Horsie
2. The Crying Machine
3. Gravity Storm
4. Whispering a Prayer (followed by band introductions)
Passion and Warfare
5. Liberty
6. Erotic Nightmares
7. The Animal
8. Answers
9. The Riddle
10. Ballerina 12/24
11. For the Love of God
Intermission
12. The Audience Is Listening
13. I Would Love To
14. Blue Powder
15. Greasy Kid's Stuff
16. Alien Water Kiss
17. Sisters
18. Love Secrets
19. Stevie's Spanking (Frank Zappa cover)
20. Racing the World
Encore:
21. Fire Garden Suite IV - Taurus Bulba
Saw a number of friends from the local music scene there, all of whom were completely blown away, just as I was. I took Jr. with me. His first real exposure to Steve Vai and my first time seeing him live. Vai is a very good showman/entertainer. He doesn't just stand in one place and play. He's moving around, he's doing all kinds of odd shit with his guitar, he's trying to make an experience out of it for the fans. Very cool.
The ONLY gripe I have is that we were on Dave Weiner's side of the stage and despite the fact that his amps sat way back on the stage, when he started playing, it was damn near all you could hear. WAY too loud on stage. There were times, I actually couldn't hear Vai's guitar (his amps were center stage in front of the drum riser). Being in the second row, Vai's amps didn't have the room to spread out to where we were sitting. Had we been further back, we probably could've heard him better. No matter, we heard most of it, and it was just absolutely out of this world.
-
Good stuff Coz - he puts on a great show.
I have seen him twice.
First time was on the Fire Garden tour - it's a while ago now but I recall a couple of things.............people passing out around me from heat exhaustion (small venue , standing only in around 40 degrees Celsius) and walking out thinking that it might be the best concert I had seen.
The second was on the G3 tour. By that time I was a bit over his new material (just too weird) and I considered myself a bigger fan of Satch and Petrucci at that time and expected to view the concert as such. Vai blew them both away.
-
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, virtual "guitar duels" with Joe Satriani on Answers and with JP on The Audience is Listening.
-
I've been to a few Vai concerts, but the best was his VAI Sex and Religion tour with Devin Townsend on vocals/guitar. Relatively small club (The Palace in Hollywood) front row right up at the barricade. Just amazing watching him that close where he had another band member that probably pushed his own showmanship up another notch. So close I could easily read the name of his guitars. The only way to describe it was his guitar was like a dancing partner. The fluidity between playing and his guitar moving all over the place was otherworldly. Can't recall which P&W songs he played that night, but it is safe to say For the Love of God was one of them.
If you haven't seen this dude live and love guitar heroes, don't hesitate to buy tickets. Vai isn't even my favorite guitarist, but he was that night.

Totally agree with you there. I also saw him on the S&R tour and he was mindblowing (but so was Devin Townsend). This guy has such a sexy way (for lack of a better term) to play the guitar.

Nice set.
Wish he included some Real Illusions songs though.
-
I would watch that, but he has to come a lot closer than upstate NY.
