We wanted to do a huge production at Uni, and what could be bigger than this?

Hope you like it!

Bravo! Seriously, this is absolutely incredible! Well done to all involved.
Not many covers give me goosebumps the way the original songs do, but this one certainly did. Even when Intervals started I did not expect the power that came out of the singer's voice when "Trapped inside this Octavarium" came in. As many DT fans as possible need to hear this.

Guys, this is HUGE!!!! And I had forgotten what a monster that track was. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Wow!!!

Wow, brilliant performance of an epic song! Always loved this track, but it's been among the more unfortunate victims of my "if I don't like the entire album I don't listen to it" policy. I rediscovered it within the last year or so and it's become one of my all-time favorites.
-
One of the best covers out there of Octavarium! Awesome!
-
Very awesome.
On a side note it always amazes me when something like this has better video/audio than a professional release from a major band (and that is not meant to compare directly to DT). I particularly like how this video was shot, the lighting, cuts, and all.
-
Holy shit, that was awesome. Whaddyaknow, I like that song again!! :)
-
Me too. What everybody else has said :)
-
Thanks for the positive feedback guys! Glad you like it ;D
What do you think is the best way to get the band to see it?
-
Just great. Often, DT covers suffer vocally, but not here. You guys and gals all deserve a standing ovation for putting this together so well. I hope the band sees this and gives you some feedback.

Crazy how much work you all put into this and how well it came out. Well done!
I'm not sure how best to get the band to see it. Maybe one of the mods/etc. who are close to the band will mention it to them. This video should be opening their concerts, imo.
-
Amazing. And don't worry, I would be surprised if guys from DT eventually don't see something this brilliant.

We'll see what we can do.

Call me shallow for singling out one particular thing to watch for before even seeing the video, but I have to admit: I went into it with the thought of, "there had better be a prominent focus on French horns at the end of the song," and then sat there through the entire thing just waiting for that one moment. :lol Thank you for rewarding me. I literally jumped out of my seat and fist pumped at 23:00.
-
Realllllllllly good. Wish the drums were louder, but that's probably because I'm a drummer, but yea fantastic job.
-
Damn. :o
Holy shit. I almost cried while watching this. That was so brilliant and well done that I have never seen that kind of cover before this. Goosebumps everywhere. Thank you.
I really enjoyed the overall flow which was a bit faster in silent parts, I enjoyed the sound of singer's voice in Intervals, I loved the orchestration, the french horn at the end, loved the sounds and filming overall.

Incredible cover, cheers!
-
Wow! What blows me away maybe even more than the performance itself is all the work that went behind it. Getting all the personnel, the scores, the rehearsals. I would jump at an opportunity to participate, but can't even imagine organizing something like this "just to do it".
-
Great stuff! Perhaps the most ambitious Dream Theater song to tackle with the addition of an orchestra, but that was all around great.
-
Goosebumps. Three times: goosebumps. Amazing!
Although the singer was not as effortlessly powerful as James, I loved watching him sing it.
Maybe the best cover I have ever seen. Tool "No Quarter" is hard to beat, though.
BRAVO.
I felt bad that there was no crowd THERE to actually show appreciation for this large achievement!

Really, it's almost a shame. I mean I understand why it's best recorded "studio" and not live, but you almost expect applause at the end, but there's no audience.
-
Truly astonishing, the best Octavarium cover I've ever seen. A lot of effort was put on it, judging from the end result. I could comment on the craft of each part, so interesting the whole video is.
-
Really wonderful. Amazing. :hefdaddy
-
Awesome! I was only slightly bothered by how they said "First" instead of "Root" in intervals (nitpicky, I know) but an amazing DT cover it is!
-
I hate people on youtube that are comparing the kid that sings with JLB. It's a bloody cover, and he did an amazing job.

And there is only one JLB and only one of any singer so even on a cover, it's never going to be comparable to the original singer. Everyone has their own voice and style. If you don't like it, fine, its music, but to see people be so harsh on anonymous comments on a cover song is ridiculous.
-
Phenomenal! :D Kudos to everyone involved, I love watching talented musicians cover DT - especially when it's one of my all time favourite songs. Very well put together video too.
Didn't see it mentioned in the thread, but the band posted a link to the vid a few days ago on their Facebook page! :tup

It's so great I started to argue with my wife when I asked her to leave me alone listening for the next 20 minutes :D
No thank you ! haha
-
One of the best DT covers I've ever seen. Congratulations.
-
Saved for future watching, I'm neck deep in new Marillion right now...
Did see it was Ruddess approved on YT though......
OK- This is fantastic. Absolutely impressed. Beautiful job by all. Thank you for keeping this piece that is close to our hearts alive with such style!!
