SRV :hefdaddy

SRV :hefdaddy
-
Never liked SRV myself .
-
Mark Knopfler for me. If I had to choose my favorite guitar player ever I would probably choose him.
Out of others, I like Ritchie Blackmore the best.
-
Has to be SRV from that list.
-
Perhaps we should state why :lol
SRV bores me to absolute tears. Mark Knopfler has amazing tone and feel - his strat sounds like nobody elses - he has his own style and you immediately know it's him.
-
SRV and man he was unreal live.
-
Blackmore, without him there would be no Yngwie and his endless clones.
But no David Gilmour?

But no David Gilmour?
- Other -
-
I rated this based on which Strat player I'd sooner choose to listen to. Went with SRV.
-
He would be at the bottom of my list.
-
But no David Gilmour?
- Other -
Really?
Thanks for pointing to the bleeding obvious ;D
-
I'm a huge Hendrix and SRV fan, so those two will be my choice.
I never got behind Malmsteem, but I admire his skills.
Robin Trower is also an excellent strat player
-
So Dave, you didn't outright say, I take it you'd vote for Mark Knopfler?
Also, other = Eric Johnson
-
Voted : Knopfler
Vetoed : SRV
-

But no David Gilmour?
Voted Yngwie, because he took the awesome Blackmore thing and take it further.
Love SRV and Blackmore too, but Yngwie was god. He's just an arse now.
-
Different styles, but my fav is Yngwie, but not your stereotypical strat player.
-
Kotow, I can't quite follow you, are you a fan of SRV? Not sure I can figure that out.
For me, I picked SRV because I just love the soul he puts into his playing. Seamlessly blends emotion and power with immense technical skill.
-
Other
The Maiden guys
-
So many greats missing from this list, had to go with other. David Gilmour, Eric Johnson, even Buddy Holly. Also the Maiden guys, Adrian Smith in particular.
-
Kotow, you don't have to say you don't like SRV in every post, I think we get it. :lol
I'm not super familiar with any of these guys, but I think I'd go with Knopfler as well, I've really enjoyed everything I've heard from him.
-
First thought: no Eric Johnson?
Second thought: no Adrian Belew (before he switched to Parker)?
So, other.
-
Knopfler. Reason being, he's my favourite musician of all time.
Eric Johnson would be a close 2nd.
-
Blackmore
-
of those listed, SRV
But Gilmour and EJ tho
does the Frankenstrat count as a strat? If so, definitely "Other"

Oh sh........ ould have gone with that, if it counts.
Of the ones listed, definitely Blackmore. Underrated these days because he hides away in his castle writing folk music, but he's the one on this list I'm far most likely to want to listen to.
-
I knew my answer even before I entered the thread. David Gilmour.
-
Knopfler
Which one of them does still play a strat and not some custom made strat lookalike?
-
Knopfler, he has such a unique tone, you can always tell when he is playing.
-
Well this is hard...
Everyone says either Hendrix or Gallagher... But as a big Yngwie fan who was inspired by Hendrix & Blackmore... its hard to choose.. Van Halen used the strat at the beginning (despite the customisations)
David Gilmour is another example of a classic Fender guy...
Then there is Hank Marvin...
Too many great players to pick just one...
-
Other because David Gilmour.
-
Too many great players being lumped into the "other" category to take this poll seriously. :P
-
Poll choices cannot be infinite.

You can have 30+. HTH.
-
strats are boring.
-
How The Edge - largely a Gibson player - gets a slot and David Gilmour - one of the five greatest guitar players of all time of any manufacturer - doesn't, is baffling.
In any event, Blackmore is my favorite musician of all time, so he gets the nod, but I will say this: I saw SRV on a cold, rainy day in May at the University of Connecticut playing to about 500 people on a flatbed truck parked in the corner of a shitty football stadium and yet he played like it was center stage at the Royal Albert Hall. I have seen hundreds of concerts, and seen all the greats that have toured into the 80's and 90's (so obviously not Hendrix) and I have NEVER seen someone "own" their instrument like him. It was like a part of his body, I can't describe it and do it justice.
-
But no David Gilmour?
My reason for choosing "other."
-
Gilmour.
-
Richie Sambora.
