Literally my favorite indie-folk musicians, Frightened Rabbit, have announced a new album out April 8th. It's called "Painting of a Panic Attack," and it is described as a more moody, dark affair than before, which is kind of hard to believe considering the heartbreaking lyrics of The Midnight Organ Fight.

The first single from the new album, "Death Dream," is out now, and it is haunting as can be. Check it out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YYLZrCuhu_0

I'll check the single later. And yes, I saw the announcement for the new album yesterday and got a bit excited. I assume you already listened to the Owl John record right? What did you think of it?

Another new song! https://www.npr.org/event/music/468713110/new-song-video-from-frightened-rabbit
Different direction, but I love it. Both songs so far are wonderful.

This sounds really good actually...
-
Hey I really like this song.
-
Ok, listened to the new songs and I liked them both a lot. Still classic FR but with some new sounds, I like where this is going.

New album is out, and it is amazing. The most poignant lyrics Scott has written since Midnight, and an influence from Aaron Dessner that definitely screams The National in some parts, while still feeling wholly Frightened Rabbit. So many good songs, definitely their second best album.

I listened to it a couple of time and I'm really digging it, mostly the first half. I don't know if it's a step up from Pedestrian Verse but it's cool that they are using new elements in their music, this album sure feels fresh.
Also, the title for the thread says thead :P

Bumping this thread with absolutely devastating news. Scott Hutchinson, lead singer and songwriter for Frightened Rabbit, among other bands, has been found dead, an apparent suicide. His lyrics were always wrought with depression, and their poignancy always hit home to me. Despite this, their music was still hopeful, and it got me among thousands and thousands of others through some very challenging times... I am utterly heartbroken, and I didn't even know him. My thoughts to him, his family, his friends, and all of the fans like me who are just completely shaken at this news. Depression is truly a tragic disease.

I read a post from them the other day on twitter where they said they were looking for him. This is so tragic :'(
-
Bump. This band deserves more praise. Still so sad about Scott

Favorite track off Midnight Organ Fight is Floating in The Forth. I find it sad to listen to nowadays since isn't that song pretty much exactly how he died?
-
Glad to see a couple people reviving the thread during my random periods of being incredibly busy / forgetting to browse the forum! Still one of my favorite bands.
There's actually a covers album coming out soon through their charity, Tiny Changes, that covers the entirety of The Midnight Organ Fright. Some featured artists include Manchester Orchestra, Julien Baker, Biffy Clyro, Wintersleep, and The Twilight Sad. A few of the songs are already available to listen to, check it out here:
