Title: Attention String players

We are in the process of registering my daughter for kindergarten, and being in a school choice district, we can be put into a lottery to have her attend a school with a specialized program. We have no problem with the school we would normally go to, but one school in the district offers orchestra beginning at kindergarten, and so we want to look into it. On the school site it says they use The Suzuki method. Now, my wife plays and teaches violin but doesn't know a whole lot about Suzuki as a method and is afraid that she will learn mainly by ear instead of learning how to read the actual music on the staff. Does anyone here play strings and if so can you enlighten me a little bit about the Suzuki method? Thanks.
