Title: North American Tour - 2016
Post by: Madman Shepherd on December 17, 2015, 05:58:01 PM
Kinda confused about the tour announcement.  Do we know anything about the presale tomorrow?  Is it through the venues?  Is there a password?

Bummed we get less than a day to plan for this.  Also kind of weird the general sale begins Tuesday.  What ever happened to Saturday?  My employer blocks just about every site on the internet and my cell service isn't the greatest so I may have to wait several hours to stake claim on my seats.  Not how I like to do it.   :'(

I recall that some of the VIP seats sold on the DT website for the DT12 tour were less than spectacular seats for some cities.  In fact, I scored better seats when tickets went on public sale and I ended up reselling my VIP package.

(I'm fine with moving this thread to the concerts page, or combining if a similar thread already exists)

I will miss the Boston show as we are away on vacation.  Working The Lovely Mrs TAC on Radio City. It's going to be a long shot!

If the presale is like in europe then it is a small sunset of the tickets spread out around the theater sold through dreamtheater.net.
The actual sale will be through CrowdSurge where you will need to create an account after you have found your tickets (if you don't have one already).

If you are not able to get to the normal sale intil after a few hours I would suggest presale.

Got tickets for the first announced Stockholm show through presale on a hard pressed work week. Ok tickets but quite a bit back after presale had been going for hours. Then I tried to get better tickets when general sale went up. Due to meetings at work this was also hours later and the tickets I found were worse than through presale.
For the second annonced show I tried as soon as the general sale went up and got 4th row...

I'd be down, definitely should do a dtf meet up.  I booked my hotel room already as well.  Not that I can't get home, but life is easier when you don't have to worry about that.

I just got my ticket. I'm not driving in. I'm definitely taking public transportation. I can't be worried about driving and having a few drinks. You could have driven to me and taken public transportation with me and just crashed at my place.

If anyone wants to use my place as a resting ground, feel free to ask.

I kept refreshing and eventually got pretty good seats:

   Orchestra 5, Row XX, Seat 501   $79.50   $8.00   $87.50
   Orchestra 5, Row XX, Seat 502   $79.50   $8.00   $87.50

Im pumped!

Thanks for the offer Prog, I have spend over 50 nights a year in hotels so I have status and staying at a hotel with my friend is the best option for me.  For mostly the same reason, I plan on drinking and don't take the risk of driving when doing so.  Since it's a Saturday though, I can get into the city early for some bar hopping or whatever.  Going to be a good time.

I just hit my Staples easy button!  Got box H (mezzanine) row A almost in the center for the Cincinnati show at Taft Theater. :metal  I was going to go for the floor, but love the seats I got since there will be no one in front of me.

Amazing to me that the two tickets I got were 135.00 with fees.  I paid much more for two tickets for Rush and Fleetwood Mac.

Now I have to call my wife and tell her how easy it was to get the tickets.  I tried to get her Adelle tickets yesterday with no luck even though I was on line at the stroke of 10:00am.

I was definitely caught a little off-guard this morning when I saw that this tour was happening.  But, I couldn't miss them for the 2nd straight tour.  A little selfish on my part.  But, as a result, my daughter will be indoctrinated into the world of Dream Theater at RCMH the night before her 9th birthday.  My wife, daughter and I will be 2nd Mezzanine, 2nd row, on the end.  Can't frickin' wait!  Hope she has fun, too.   ;D

4 tickets for Toronto! Right orchestra row A. I'm very pleased with what I pulled up!

Ditto on the prices. Only thing about the CT date is that my girlfriend will be in Ireland and we have pets at home. I'd either have to take a half day or leave the animals by themselves for a ridiculously long period of time. A DTF meetup in the city would be fun as hell. On the other hand, I want to buy a CT ticket so the band managers will view CT as a viable venue for future tours (not sure why they've bailed the last few).

This, its such an awesome venue and I only became a fan shortly after the filming of Score, plus add in Saturday night in NYC.... just amazing set up for a perfect evening.

Fuckkk. Idk. I just bought tickets to the CT show. I've seen DT at RCMH. I was in the 8th row for the SCORE filming. Great venue. As much as I'd love to do NYC for the day, I have to be conscious of my money. Three weeks prior to that, I'll be in Vegas for a few days. A day in NYC might be stretching my budget for April.

I hear you. Money is an issue and CT allows me to the do this show for a third of what an NYC show would cost. At least a third.

Yeah. Just getting to NYC and back would be about what a single ticket costs to see them in CT. I'm sure I'd ended up spending at least $75-$100 on food and booze as well if I were to attend the meetup. The Oakdale is top notch with really comfy seats. I got front row in section 205. With no one in front of me, I'm going to be the asshole that sits the entire show.

I'll be a few rows behind you, Row B, almost center over a little on Petrucci's side (although with this different presentation who knows if the normal sides will hold).  Just about perfect.  No M&G, that doesn't interest me.

That's gonna be a great seat because that area is super elevated, so you will be eye level with the stage and at the perfect listening location.  I'll be down in the pit looking way up.

No expert here, but judging from what I've figured out today, go with Live Nation, or the site that the venue's site directs you to. DT's presale doesn't seem to actually have the good tickets. You'll need to find the code for the presale somehow, though. I found the code for the Los Angeles show on the venue's Facebook page. It was "bells". See the thread I just created in the concerts section...

BAM!!  Wiltern general tickets first to be sold out on DT site.  Let's see if Live Nation's stash goes just as quick.  Could be the brewing of a second Los Angeles show.

Got row EE right in the center at the Chicago Theater!  Looks like that is fifth row, so this will be by far the best seats I've had for a DT show.

When did you get them?  I was on right at 10AM and could only manage row PP.  I opted to try for the general sale.  I wonder if it had to do with the fact that I wanted 3 tickets.

I was refreshing every few seconds right at the turn from 9:59 to 10:00.  I've always had really awful luck with tickets, but I was psyched to pull EE.  My dad is flying down from MN and these are by far the best tickets that we have ever had for a DT show.  I'm guessing the 3 tickets played into it for you, but I've never really understood how they partition ticket groups for all of these presales.

Anyone think they're going to get another NA tour in some time next year, playing a more normal setlist, with any shows closer to the south? Last time I saw them was in Richmond, but I'd be plenty happy to do DC as well.

I'd like to think they would, but their last tour in the States was somewhat similar and so as of right now I'm limited to a long trip to NY and back, for a show that will be almost entirely comprised of an album I've yet to hear or (by extension) enjoy. Unfortunately I simply can't bring myself to bite on that  :-\

Well the album will be out before the show so you'll have time to decide if it's worth the effort.

Yeah that's right. I'm just not sure I'll be able to get good seats, which is a big deal if I'm going to put in 15 hours of driving. Hopefully I'll be proven wrong. And hell, if I really do enjoy the album I'll make it work. I'd just really appreciate a more 'normal' NA leg as well, since I wasn't able to see them on their last run through.

Yea I hear ya, unfortunate. There is always stub hub to find the seat you want but thats likely to cost a bunch more or you can do the opposite and get the ticket now and put it up for resale if you don't make it.

I would like to see them do a normal tour after this, get a more well rounded set list like the past summer tour.

Congratulations on the kickass seats.  In retrospect, DT played the second leg of the ADTOE tour at a different theatre and I think I had similar seats as what you got but I only bought two so I guess having the extra person was the death knell.

Toronto... Orchestra Row B, far right.  I'll take it.

Didn't know any of the presale codes, so I winged it, and got in with "astonishing" (since I don't have an American Express card anymore).  That's the LiveNation presale code.

No show for Phoenix (at least for now), so I grabbed 2 VIP Gold tix for the Denver show (Row F) and then promptly booked a flight using miles for a whopping $11 (I knew they'd come in handy some day).  Hoping they make a second run at spots they skip the first go around, but happy I'll get to see them on the initial one.

Of course now that I booked Denver, they'll probably fill in the gap between Denver and LA with PHX, in which case it's going to be an expensive week.  :metal

I'll be at the Denver show as well (and flying with points too!! ). I'll decide if I get the VIP tix later but at least I got a ticket at the Orchestra Center (2nd to last row, I want to ABSORB THE WHOLE THING...background, lights, sound, the playing, etc..)

EDIT: Damn, 300 bucks....I'll have to really think about this since I've been trying to pull out from debt I have.

Well, that's a bummer for me.  I'd love to go to this show, but it's just a tad out of my price range, and I don't know anyone that wants to go with me, especially with this show being a show where the new double concept album, that has yet to be released, may be a tough thing to convince people to come with me.

Just picked up Gold VIP for Mesa, AZ cause seeing them two nights earlier apparently isn't enough for me.  :metal :censored   The Mesa, AZ Gold VIP is listed as a M&G too, which is interesting because the price was actually $0.50 less than the non-M&G Gold I got for Denver.

Next time consider Mexico City. The flight is about the same distance and it offers a lot of other benefits. You'll save a bundle and live much nicer while you're there. It's also likely that you'll find a much livelier crowd than you will in Denver. I suspect it's probably my default go-to destination for concerts that don't come to Texas. While Denver has traditionally been one of the concert options, that has more to do with camping and seeing shows at Red Rocks. Denver itself really has very little to offer.

Legal highs!  Just went to the Red Rocks last week, I would love to see a concert there, but otherwise agreed on Denver not being a city with much to offer, but is Mexico City safe?  I've never talked to anyone who has gone there before and that is my immediate concern with going there.

Looks like I will have to go to Denver, even though I live in Texas.  When the NA tour was announced back in December, it was with the tease "more dates to be announced".  Little did I know that quietly already happened and Texas was not one of them (just like Maiden's new tour).

Can't pass up the chance to see DT play a new CD in its' entirety.  Especially a concept LP!

Red Rocks suffers from a couple of failings as a concert venue. For one thing the surroundings distract you from the show. Worse, though, is that the wind wreaks havoc with the sound. Still, it's an amazing place to see a show.

The places where a tourist will go to in Mexico City are reasonably safe. Think of it this way: is there any reason why tourists would wind up wandering around Mott Haven some night? Do you worry about getting shot, stabbed, raped, poisoned and then raped again around Times Square?  DF is huge, and you're going to spend your time in a 2miČ area covering a couple of neighborhoods. You'll also see more cops than you've ever seen in your life. Basically, the same rules apply in DF as in NYC. Be mindful of your surroundings, know where you're going and don't look like an idiot.

Maybe because I live outside NYC, but NYC always feel pretty safe to me.  I know nothing of Mexico City other than Mexico in general can be dangerous which is why I asked.  Maybe one day I make it there.

As for a negative of the red rocks.. high altitude I would have thought would be one.

I wasn't necessarily recommending it for somebody up in your neck of the woods. For a guy ostensibly in Terrel, it's a great option. And I'd consider Mexico City and NYC very comparable in terms of crime. There are parts you don't want to go to, but the normal places a visitor are likely to spend time are pretty safe. Interestingly, insofar as murders go, DF is actually safer than Texas and many other US states. It's only when you get to the border towns that it becomes particularly shooty.

Altitude is only a problem at Red Rocks if the show is the first day you're there. Whole lotta steps to climb to get there. After a day or two you're more accustomed to the air and it's not really a problem. One of the times I saw Rush there, there were times where it sounded like Lifeson disappeared altogether. Middle of a solo he'd just go quiet for a few seconds and then reappear. That's how significant the wind can be.

Yea, I know your recommendation wasn't towards me, but I wanted to chime in because I thought it was interesting in case I ever wanted to travel below the border for a concert.  I always thought it would be cool to see a metal concert down there since the crowds are crazier.

I live in Mexico City, so better insight on how 'safe' it is you probably cannot get.  :D

There is crime as in most major cities in the world, but given it's the second largest city in the world (just behind Tokyo) you will find that if you stay away from the 'bad' zones you won't have any trouble. The northern cities of Mexico (those in the border with the US, mostly) have higher rates of crime because of the whole war against drug dealers that's been happening over there for years, so I guarantee you will have a nice time down here.

Also, metal crowds are far crazier here. I saw DT once in LA and went to another concert recently in London and the vibes are entirely different. You get a far more passionate crowd in these parts. If you ever come down here, feel free to send me a PM or something and we can meet up!

I didn't see a thread for the 4/29 Michigan show. JLB seemed to be on fire this night, I heard no pitch issues. My DT concert group felt the same.

Was anyone at the Portland show? I heard Labrie gave the audience the middle finger during the show. I'm hoping someone took a picture.

Rumor has it that MP was at the Portland show, in a totally unrelated issue.

Can't believe we only have one show left on our current NA tour.
Thank you to all you incredible fans for making it a great run and success.
We will make a point of coming back to Canada and in through the States. There were many areas left out and we need to correct that before moving onto another album and tour... not that that's going to be happening anytime soon.
See u all late fall or early 17'

Well, at least we can basically say that there will definitely be a second leg. It's not confirmed, but at least we know it's in the band's interests.

Per DT subreddit it was because the audience was lame and had low energy throughout the show. Although reddit is not the best source of information so I'm wondering if anyone here can confirm.

I find that hard to believe and likely a joke based on the audiences for the whole tour.  I can't see JLB who comes off as a nice guy, giving the crowd the finger because they weren't lively.

This is what another sleepless night does.

I kept re-reading the post of JLB's wondering what you found so funny about it. I must have read through it six times and still couldn't find what was so damn funny. Then I realized you were laughing at what I said in the post above yours.

True, might have to try and make that one if it is in the US.

JLB said "Hey Columbus, fuck you!!!" at the 2008 DT show in Columbus. It was totally a joke, as one of the openers said something similar (if I remember correctly, a mic picked it up and wasn't meant to be heard by the audience) and JLB was reminding everyone of it. It was hilarious. A short moment of relative silence, followed by mass laughter.

Was at the Portland show and I didn't see Labrie flip off the crowd...   He had a tough time during the first act, but knocked it out of the park in Act II.   On the MP rumor... Here's a pic... https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=1024819707606736&set=a.104998489588867.15751.100002361486743&type=3&theater (https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=1024819707606736&set=a.104998489588867.15751.100002361486743&type=3&theater)   Okay, it might only be Phony Portnoy and Phony Mangini, but what the hell.
