Hey guys, it feels like just yesterday I was doing my first roulette, and now that so many people are putting theirs on hold, mine just shot up to the top of the list, and I'm looking forward to doing this a second time! I'm away from my computer now so I'm going to edit this post later with a list of banned artist and more in depth rules. This is going to be another simple roulette: 10 players, 10 rounds, and the scoring method is going to be a simple 1-10 this time, rather than previously ranking the songs (I wasn't happy with this way of scoring, and I don't think any of you were either)
So go ahead, sign up while you can, first come first serve!
Contestants:
1. Sacul
2. Parama
3. Shadow Ninja 2.0
4. Tom Bombadil
5. senecadawg2
6. Elite
7. Scorpion
8. Train of Naught
9. Splent
10. kingshmegland
Alright, I thought about just banning all the artists used in the previous roulette, but it wouldn't be that fair because some of those artists I've only heard maybe 2-3 songs from at most right now, so there's no point in banning an artist if I know that little. So basically, I know a good bit of songs from all the artists listed here. Just run your entries by me of course and I'll let you know if you need to change it, but for the most part this should run smoothly. Honestly, I'm not big into themes, so all 10 rounds are going to be open, and send whatever you like. My only requirement is that the song be under 15 minutes. If you have any questions, let me know! :tup You can go ahead and send now for Round 1

That was quick, thanks for signing up. This should be fun! I'm about to edit the OP with my list of banned artist. The list might be a little different this time, as there were some bands on my last list that probably shouldn't have been on there.
-
How do you want the songs sent? Spotify? MP3?
-
Spotify is preferred, but an MP3 works too, and YouTube.
-
ok nothing on your banned list is anything i was gonna send anyways so i'mma go ahead and send round one
-
Sent!
-
Not sure when it starts exactly, but I sent mine in advance anyway so I won't forget it later.

I don't really have a set date, so I'll just start as soon as I get all the entries.
So far I have about half the entries.

It's 4:44 pm, my time. I'll post by 11:59:59 pm, my time.

sitting here listening to that headspace album for the first time and i'm not really in despair because i have no intentions of winning this roulette, i already won bizkit's first one so this time i can safely just send random stuff i have no clue whether or not he'll like
-
2nd place attitude there. You should want to 2-peat!
-
less that and more "here's this cool stuff i want to show you, if i win that's basically just a side-effect"
granted, that's how i won his roulette the first time, so

Sometimes Iwonder whether Parama is serious when he says he is sending one of his favorite songs or if he is just invoking pity from the host.

i was absolutely serious with Idioglossia, best prog metal song of all time, that's never changing, ever :lol
for what it's worth if i wanted to win your points the easy way i'd probably have sent Iter Impius or Undertow but where's the fun in safe choices :hat

You're better off asking Shadow Ninja :lol

yeah i'm mostly interested in sending music i like or think is interesting and want to share with other people.

I'm going to apologize ahead of time and say my write ups aren't really the best things you've ever read. I absolutely hate writing, so I just write a few things that come to mind when listening. I've seen some of you guys' write ups and they're like freaking essays. I'm just gonna be blunt and to the point. :lol
Scorpion - "Vinushka" - Dir En Grey
If I had to pick a least favorite part of this song, it would be the vocals. I'm certainly fine with them, but there are certain parts, like the end, that just don't hit me the right way. Not bad by any means, but not particularly something I really enjoy. As far as the musical arrangements go, the intro is really badass. I really like the slower parts of this song like the beginning and somewhere in the middle around 6 minutes. There's a certain mood to this song that really works and this song definitely flows well. It just happens to be my least favorite of the round, but still a nice solid song.
7/10
Splent - "Stolas" - Scale the Summit
Instrumental progressive metal/rock is something that can be hit or miss with me. I either really enjoy it, or I can find it really boring. For example, Animals as Leaders, I am a fan of them, but some of their stuff is just so "by the numbers" and uninspired. Meanwhile, listening to Chon, they feel so fresh and fun, with a ton of energy. I'd say this song is about the half-way point for me. It's certainly good, but not great. Scale the Summit is surely a talented group, but something I can enjoy in small doses. One really good thing I like about this song is that considering how it's only 5 minutes, it does change up the pacing and melodies. Some very cool moments, like around 3:30. This is enjoyable, for sure, but not something I'd probably go back to a lot.
7.5/10
Train of Naught - "Figure It Out" - Royal Blood
What you sent me here is a simple, straight-forward rocker. Good thing is, it's kickin'. It may not feel like the most original thing, and for some reason I get a Black Keys/Jet fusion listening to this, which isn't a bad thing at all. I think the strength of this one is the chorus. The verses are pretty good, but I do get a lot more interested when the chorus comes around. Also, I do like the finale of the song, the quick buildup and climactic finish. It's a really tight song, with good energy, but like the previous songs, it's good, but not something I'm going to find myself going back to often.
7.5/10
Shadow Ninja 2.0 - "Leave a Trace" - CHVRCHES
Funny you sent this because a friend of mine just showed me a song of theirs just 2 weeks ago. The song was "Tether", and I think I actually prefer it to this one. Luckily, I like both a lot. The vocalist is really good and the songs are extremely catchy. I've always liked me some synth-pop, it's just fun to listen to and always has a good vibe going with it. Nothing really out of the ordinary here, but the strength is definitely the vocals. Her melodies are very creative, and not predictable, and that makes me want to come back to this.
8/10
Parama - "Naif/Linear Failure/My Favorite Society Guy" - East of the Wall
This one took the longest to click out of all entries, but maybe that's just because it's the longest of the bunch. This song (more like, 3 combined) really does take on a lot of different styles, at first, I really thought it was going to be this slow sludge metal track, and then it felt more like an alternative metal track when the vocals came in. Then, it got heavier, maybe hardcore? I usually don't listen to many artists with this vocal style, but I really like them, and I think it works well within the context of the music. The solo in the middle is quite relaxing and serves as a good breather in between the more chaotic moments of the song, I think my favorite part of it though is around the 6:20 mark and onward. The riffs are really great, and the song gets to its highest point IMO. One thing I can take from this that I really, really enjoy is the production. It has that loose, aggressive feel to it, and I've heard it done wrong plenty of times. In this case, it definitely hasn't. Awesome track!
8.5/10
Elite - "See Hell" - Agent Fresco
2nd times the charm, right? You sent me "Dark Water" in my first roulette, and I did actually enjoy it, regardless of it being ranked so low. However, I much prefer this one. The intro is awesome, the mix of guitars and keys really give it this epic feel to it. I said it then, and I'll say it again: This feels like Haken-pop music, which is most definitely a compliment. The vocalist is really great, and it couldn't fit the instrumentation any more perfectly. The drumming is super tight in this song, and I guess that's just something I notice, being a drummer. This is a truly great and catchy song, great choice, I guess you were saving the better Fresco song for this roulette.
8.5/10
senecadawg2 - "John My Beloved" - Sufjan Stevens
Probably the most emotional of the entries, along with Sacul's. I can definitely see what you like about this one, it's super relaxing, and the vocals can almost put you to sleep, in a good way of course. The piano melody later in the song is beautiful and the song only gets better as it goes. My favorite part of this is around 3:10. The almost-whispered vocals and the soft touch of the keys make this a comforting experience. This is a perfect song to listen to on a rainy day, which we've definitely had a lot of lately around this area. Also, I've seen this album get mentioned a lot, specifically on Sputnik, so thanks for sharing a track from it, I'm definitely going to check the rest of it out.
9/10
Tom Bombadil - "Jack of Speed" - Steely Dan
This song is the definition of "cool". Seriously. The tight, yet groovy foundation of the drums, the incorporation of jazz instruments, and breathing guitars really make this track a fine one, and the vocals on top of it are great. Out of all the songs, this might be the one I was most initially excited for. I've heard only a few Steely Dan tracks on the radio, and I always told myself I really liked them and that I need to seriously check them out. This jazz-rock piece is nearly perfect, and it's been stuck in my head for days now. Appreciate it :tup
9.5/10
kingshmegland - "Caterpillar and the Barbed Wire" - Riverside
Ahhh, Riverside. I've listened to like 3 songs from them, and never went back to them. Why? Not because I disliked them, but because I'm an extremely lazy music discoverer. If this is from their new album, then this really rocks. Actually, now that I remember, Seneca sent me a song a couple months ago from the same album. Riverside is probably at the top of my "Get Your Ass to Listening To" list, and Caterpillar and the Barbed Wire pretty much solidifies that. I can't decide what my favorite part of the song is. The vocals are really, REALLY good, and the music is even better. The atmosphere of this song is huge and resounding. Probably going to start listening to them this week!
9.5/10
Sacul - "EOS" - Ulver
Wow, you hit the spot man! It must be obvious now that I really like ambient and atmospheric music. I listened to Shadows of the Sun a while back, like over a year ago, maybe even 2, I can't remember. This song is pretty much perfect, and I realized that on first listen. Not the kind of song you should have playing your car, but rather when it's dark, quiet, and a period of reflection. The vocals are somber, in which case usually isn't something I'd enjoy, but it works wonderful in this track. My favorite time to listen to music is when I'm tired and half-asleep, and this is what I would want to listen to when doing that. I'm not saying I like everything that's ambient and atmospheric, because yes, some of it is boring, but definitely not in this case. I have to check out this album and I HAVE to love it. Great choice and good start Lucas!
10/10
Great round, everyone! As stated before, I'm not very picky and I generally enjoy everything. Honestly anything below like a 6.5 is something I don't enjoy, so most likely, you won't be seeing much of that in this roulette.
Standings after Round 1:
1. Sacul (10 Points)
2. kingshmegland (9.5 Points)
2. Tom Bombadil (9.5 Points)
4. senecadawg2 (9 Points)
5. Elite (8.5 Points)
5. Parama (8.5 Points)
7. Shadow Ninja 2.0 (8 Points)
8. Train of Naught (7.5 Points)
8. splent (7.5 Points)
10. Scorpion (7 Points)
-
And go ahead and send Round 2. Remember every round is open !
-
yeah that's easily the best song on Riverside's new album :lol
also wow I missed that they weren't on the banned list for two roulettes in a row? okay
Eos is great too, need to pick up that album soon
and the mixing and production on that EotW album is just amazing, you can pick out every element individually and follow it for as long as you please, nothing gets drowned out and nothing overpowers everything else but it never sounds cluttered and aaaggh i just listened to it again earlier today and i'm still blown away every time :lol
anyways i'm gonna be sorta modifying my submissions a little depending on your feedback because a lot of artists have two or three songs i could enter and figuring out which one's best for you is the goal :tup
i'll send round two soon. gotta go through a few songs from an artist real quick but i have an album on and I don't want to stop it :lol
-
Cool. Glad you liked it. I'll probably send tomorrow at some point.
-
Apparently I need to go back and read through your banned list, because I could've sworn that Riverside was banned.
yeah that's easily the best song on Riverside's new album :lol
It's up there, but I don't know about best.
Also, did no one send Ulver in the first roulette? That surprises me.
-
It's up there, but I don't know about best.
Also, did no one send Ulver in the first roulette? That surprises me.
Saturate Me is a close second, Toward The Blue Horizon would probably be #3. The rest of the songs are mostly on an even playing field, I wasn't blown away by the album or anything but it was solid enough. A few great tracks and a lot of good ones with no real weak tracks :lol
-
Yeah that's a respectable top three I think. But I'm also a big fan of #Addicted and Discard Your Fear, despite the hate their lyrics seem to've gotten.
Also, Scorpion, Vinushka should be at least in the top 3 of this round. You already know that of course, but it needs to be said anyways.
-
Also, did no one send Ulver in the first roulette? That surprises me.
Looks like they were "banned", but when I later asked the biscuit if he liked Ulver, he told me he was barely familiar with them >:(
Also, yay :D Shadows of the Sun is a bit of a dark album, but it's fantastic in every sense. One of my all-time favorites.
-
Yeah that's a respectable top three I think. But I'm also a big fan of #Addicted and Discard Your Fear, despite the hate their lyrics seem to've gotten.
Also, Scorpion, Vinushka should be at least in the top 3 of this round. You already know that of course, but it needs to be said anyways.
"Hashtag me and go" is one of the worst lyrics I've heard in my entire life and that song (along with Time Travellers) just has such a "old man yells at cloud" feel to it :lol
But the bass groove is cool. Discard Your Fear would probably be my #4 on the album despite sounding exactly like a SLS track.
-
I give them a bit more leeway just because they aren't native English speakers. #meandgo
-
Sacul - "EOS" - Ulver
I listened to Shadows of the Sun a while back, like over a year ago, maybe even 2, I can't remember.
10/10
Wait a second... I'm remembering now why I thought someone had sent Ulver in the last roulette. Not that anyone had, but...
-
Yeah I took a couple bands off that originally shouldn't have been on there to begin with. Sorry folks.
-
EOS ist basically cheating.
-
I'lltake a 7.5, the finale is basically the only thing that doesn't make it 'yet another basic rock song', I probably should've sent Loose Change instead.
-
Woot! I was surprised to see Riverside was not on the banned list!
-
Sent. (God I hope this hasn't been sent yet, seneca snatched this same artist away from me during Parama's roulette.)
-
Hmmmmmm ok....
This will be tough. Will send tonite.
-
What score would I have gotten had you accepted the first song I sent?
-
shadow ninja, you have sent a song.
-
What score would I have gotten had you accepted the first song I sent?
Honestly, probably an 8 so still a good score. I went back and listened to it last night so yeah that seems accurate.
-
Hope everyone had a good weekend!
I'm still waiting on round 2 entries from:
-splent
-Tom Bombadil
-Elite
-
Crap! Totally forgot  I'll send soon.
Feel free to remind me sooner next time lol

I thought I sent you mine! Oops... Hold on.

Sent finally

Still waiting on Elite. Send when you can, but don't go out of your busy ways to do it. Priorities.
And don't worry guys, I'm not gonna like take any points away for you taking longer to send.................
-
Alright, all the songs are in. I will begin listening today.
-
Damn, looking back on round one results, I still don't get the love for EOS, then again, not a big ambient fan.
-
Neither am I, yet I find that song and album fantastic.
-
Neither am I, but I find that song mediocre.
FTFM
-
that kind of ambient is exactly the kind of ambient i dig, personally :lol
-
So so! How's the listening going? You digging this round?
-
I've done two listens of everyone's songs, and for the most part it's another solid round. Some really good stuff in here, and a couple that are just, you know, okay, but not bad. :tup
Also, it's taking me a bit longer to get this round due to a ton of school work closing in on me, but I just started my Thanksgiving break so hopefully I can knock out a few rounds before finals week when I get back.
-
aww yeah okay but not bad :tup
-
Best song of the round? Awesome, I'll take it!
-
Results will be posted Sunday evening or Monday morning. Focus on the latter.

i'm just really hyped for my 4/10
-
The Biscuit will never rate a song at 4/10. Unless, maybe....
Nah, I don't see it.
-
i don't know his tastes in metal but i could see at least one of my potential entries just being outright hated by him :lol
this is my fault for basically not submitting any metal last roulette tho
and bizkit didn't really submit any metal in my roulette, either
-
Didn't he send Rage Against The Machine? Or is that rock
-
that's barely metal
and i didn't really like it much anyways :lol
-
I'm making up my own label. It's anti establishment rock, with rap undertones. :lol
I sent a pop to folks. It's an album cut so I wonder how the Bizkit will like it or not.
-
The Biscuit will never rate a song at 4/10. Unless, maybe....
Nah, I don't see it.
I consider this a personal challenge.
-
one of the songs i'm thinking of for round 3 could get a 4/10 if bizkit doesn't like it
'cause there's like no middle ground on it imo
-
Nah, the biscuit rarely "hates" a song, he ain't as harsh rating as you :P
-
my ratings scale ended up too generous in the end and i'm going to fix that next time
i wanted like 5.5 or 6.0 to be absolute "meh" with anything being higher being like the lowest song I found "decent" but it ended up being like 6.5 was where entries started to toe the line between "meh" and "decent"
i'll try to keep the scoring more consistent next time I guess
-
When I run mine, I'm going to have a rubric
-
We are all waiting like a teenage girl next to her phone right now.
-
i wanted like 5.5 or 6.0 to be absolute "meh" with anything being higher being like the lowest song I found "decent" but it ended up being like 6.5 was where entries started to toe the line between "meh" and "decent"

This is pretty much how I'm doing it. 5.5-6.5 is "meh" 7-7.5 is good, 8-9 is great. Luckily so far I haven't gotten anything worse than "meh".
-
oh, then i'm not trying hard enough
-
Me and Parama are taking an alternate approach to roulettes, where we try to get the worst scores possible. :lol
-
mostly i tend to generally ignore the tastes of whoever's roulette i'm in and just send whatever i want, though if there's a piece of their tastes plainly spelled out then usually i'll follow that rule for the most part
like i'm not sending instrumentals to anyone who says they don't like instrumentals :lol
-
I play these games to hear music I might not ever try or hear about.
-
i'm super bad at listening to other peoples' entries, mostly because i'm way too lazy to seek them out myself
this is exactly why i linked everyone's songs in my roulette when i posted results, but this is a trend that unfortunately did not catch on :P
-
I do because you can get a sense what styles the guy running the roulette likes.
-
Nah, the biscuit rarely "hates" a song, he ain't as harsh rating as you :P
This is correct.
Okay guys, been busy as fuck, but I'm going to post results in a few hours, just be patient. I'd like to have a good reputation of posting results early rather than late.

Late is whatever I say, bitch.

Round 2 Results:
Shadow Ninja 2.0 "Carnival of Rust" Poets of the Fall
Alright man, this song just doesnt do much for me. I hate to use this word, but it almost has that generic kind of feel to it. Sometimes, that isnt a bad thing, but it just doesnt rub me the right way this time. Im not a fan of the vocalist, and I honestly find this song a bit boring. I wish I could like it as much as you, because I feel like it is a well-made song, I just dont find it appealing to my ears. Though, really, its not a bad song, it just falls in the meh, category for me.
6/10
Parama A Gentleman Caller Cursive
The fuck? was my first thought when listening to this. Im still unsure how I really feel about it. Its got some cool parts, but some flat out weird parts. The beginning makes me want to slam my head on an ice sculpture, but maybe thats good? This is definitely the weirdest of all entries, and Im not really surprised to be honest. Theres some cool sections at the beginning of the song, the mini riffs are nice, and the vocals are decent in a certain loosey goosey garage band kind of way. The second half of the song is definitely better though, and it makes up for the okay first half. The vocals improve, and the strings give it a nice buildup moment. Its definitely a strange choice, but much more deserving than a four.
6.5/10
kingshmegland "Ladybird" Tears for Fears
Wait, this is the same band that did Everybody Wants to Rule the World? Interesting, this sounds completely different. The chorus of this one is absolutely fantastic, as theres just so much energy. Something about the atmosphere makes me want to just flap my wings and fly into the sky, like a bird, maybe Ill be Manbird. I dont really know how this band sounds considering the two Ive listened to sound completely different from one another. My favorite part is surely the chorus and just the vocals in general, cool tune.
8/10
Tom Bombadil The New Auld Lang Syne Less Than Jake
I know Ive heard of this band somewhere, and this song sounds strangely familiar, maybe from a Tony Hawk videogame or something. Punk is a hit or miss genre with me, but in this case, it works. Its a fun, quick song, like most punk, and I really like the vocals. Hes got the kind of aggressively unserious singing style, if that makes any sense. Its a pretty silly track, but they have a tight sound, and I like the inclusions of the brass instruments. My favorite part of it is probably the introduction, actually. Cool song for sure.
8/10
splent "Beginnings" Chicago
What Ive heard of Chicago I really love, especially 25 or 6 to 4. One thing I really appreciate about this band is their fusion of rock and jazz into one, its great stuff. The vocals on top make it even better. Everything in this song is just really, really good, and for some reason Im having a hard time putting it into words why I enjoy it so much, just that it has that good ol classic rock feel to it, with more cool vibes from the brass instruments and other percussion instruments. Cool song, and yet, another band I need to check into more.
8.5/10
Scorpion "Morpheus" Steve Rothery
I love me some good atmospheric, instrumental rock. This is not something I really listen to often honestly, but it does make for some really good study and driving music (both not at separate times of course). The guitar work is fantastic, and the addition of the good drumming and piano melodies make this a fantastic piece of music. From start to finish, this song is a fun, smooth ride, and it keeps me interested for the eight minute entirety.
9/10
Train of Naught Architect of Fortune Circus Maximus
Oh here we go, another praised band on this site that I have yet to check out. Ive heard them described as a watered down Dream Theater, or maybe some prog metal-by-the-numbers, but Im going to give it my own description. I can definitely hear some DT influence in this, but thats definitely not bad. The guitar solos are really clean and fresh sounding to me, and it has some very cool structure changes. If I had to choose a weaker link, it would be the vocals. They arent bad, but they dont necessarily stand out to me. However, the music is really awesome, so that kind of outweighs that. I will say the vocals are much better than many progressive metal bands Ive listened to. Really the only two in that genre I listen to regularly are Dream Theater and Haken, so its clearly not one of my favorite genres despite my love for those two bands. Maybe Ill add some Circus Maximus though, this song kicks ass for sure. I love the solo at 7:10, I keep coming back to that. Nice song.
9/10
Elite "Grace" Jeff Buckley
Ive been meaning to check out Buckley for a long time, and the only thing I ever heard from him was Hallelujah. Based on this song, I can already tell hes a great vocalist and guitarist. This song really has kind of a haunting atmosphere to it, and I didnt expect that. The guitar work is excellent and not excessive, and his singing is top notch, as his high notes are incredible. Hes definitely one hell of an influential musician, its a shame he had to die so young. This song is great, and one of the best of this round. Im definitely going to be listening to this album soon, Im very eager to hear it.
9.5/10
Sacul "Where We Start" David Gilmour
Gah, David Gilmour. Hes my favorite guitarist of all time, but strangely, Ive been procrastinating about listening to his solo work, and boy was I missing a lot. This is everything I love about Pink Floyd, but just Gilmour, and its perfect. Something about his playing just really gets to me, his tones, just the way he plays. Ive always been a huge fan of his soft and relaxing vocals as well. This song is amazing in every regard. Sometimes when listening to Gilmour, I can really hear where Steven Wilson gets some of his influences from. This stuff is just perfect. It takes me away into a world in which I dont want to leave.
10/10
Senecadawg2 "Bird of Sorrow" Glen Hansard
Wow, this is pretty much the definition of gorgeous. The soft piano melody, delicate vocals, and warming lyrics combined together make this one a gem. It only gets better as it goes on, and I really do find myself wondering what my favorite thing about it is, whether its the music, vocals, or lyrics. I guess thats what is so great about this song. The climax of it is perfection, with the string arrangements and the emotional vocals mixing together. This is a style of music Ive never really given much attention, but I feel like Im starting to really appreciate it, and Im very eager to check out more. Great! P.S. It's also my favorite song of the round.
10/10

I got to see him on the Grace tour.
Go ahead, hate me. :lol

-
I thought everybody heard Jeff Buckley!
Not me! Yet :P
Damn, this was definitely better than expected.
-
heck yeah
okay anyways the two songs i was deciding between for next round were "the dissonant one" and "the melodic one" and since you apparently hate dissonance i know where to go next, awesome :lol
and i don't really think a gentleman caller is that weird honestly but blah i guess it could be
sacul sent me that gilmour song after my roulette ended and i thought it was alright but maybe i should go listen to it again
bird of sorrow is fantastic and completely deserves the 10/10 tho, especially by your scoring scale :lol
i'm p. sure i've heard that jeff buckley song before but i can't recall it off the top of my head so i guess i'll look it up later
sending in a minute, then
-
I thought everybody heard Jeff Buckley!
I got to see him on the Grace tour.
Go ahead, hate me. :lol
Yeah, fuck you!
-
I may or may not be blocking someone's submission. ;)
-
well it's not my submission, i can guarantee that
-
That's what I did this round and you still got a higher score than me :(
-
i have too much music i found outside of my roulette to worry about sending artists someone else might send
-
I'll send tonight or tomorrow.
-
y'all are so slow omg i'd have kicked you out of my roulette if you took this long to send
-
Not too concerned about it tbh. Take your time. It's right around holidays, people are spending time with families. Id like to say I have a life out of DTF, so take your time.
-
I'll send tomorrow morning.
-
Tbh I totally forgot about thanksgiving, but don't you dare have a life outside of DTF.
-
:lol
-
:lol
DON'T GET MY BELLY UPSET TRAIN OF NAUGHT!

:neverusethis:
-
i mean it's been 6 days since results you could've sent before thanksgiving :P
-
Well isn't that too bad for you. Must be nice to hang out and send songs all day .
-
argue all you want but it's literally as easy as sending a youtube link
-
Well I'll care what you think when you run your own roulette. Otherwise, you don't matter.

Thank you captain obvious. I'm talking when he runs this one. He can set the rules, so his opinionson mean nothing.

i'm just really eager for bizkit to be disappointed by my entry sorry

I guess you weren't clear :P
But yeah, come on Parama :chill

i'm just really eager for bizkit to be disappointed by my entry sorry
I get ya. I love this game too. Such a busy week for me. I have other songs now ready to go for the next rounds.

Captain Obvious vs Captain Atrocious :corn
:lol
I misspell with a 2x4.
-
Well I had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday and got to spend time with family I haven't seen a while. Thanks to those who were patient.
I'm still waiting on Elite and Scorpion. I'll send them PM's just to make sure they haven't forgotten.
-
I thought that I had sent ages ago! Anyway, sent now.
-
Haven't heard from Elite yet, sent him a FB message but I'm still waiting for a response.
-
That's because I'm ignoring it :nevermind:
No sorry, I've been busy, I'm sending one right now!
-
Thanks! Alright, I have all songs, i'll probably start listening tomorrow or even Thursday. Several group presentations and a paper I have to prepare for so that comes first. After the semester is over, things will be much quicker. Just bear with me with the next week or so.
-
it's that time of year, i understand
-
Got a lot going on personally aswell, so I really wouldn't mind the slightest if the results were a little late, take your time bro!
-
i might send you round 4 in advance actually 'cause i'm gonna be gone from thursday to saturday
also with the latest batch of things i've got i think i'm finally happy with my set of "artists nobody else is going to send" for this roulette and i'm pretty happy with that
-
Yeah, that's actually good idea if y'all want to go ahead and send in advance, you're welcome to. Whatever works best for you all. Thanks for being patient. :tup
-
can i send all my rounds in advance
-
I wouldn't have a problem with that tbh except that it wouldn't be fair to others that have plans to send an artist that you might have in a later round. Of course I can't tell if you're being entirely serious
-
i'm not, really
and if they're in order then someone could just snub one of them in a round before the specifically marked round but yeah :lol
(and anyways there's only two or three artists i have lined up that have a fringe chance of being submitted by other people, the rest are rarely if never mentioned by anyone else on the forums but yeah)
-
Yeah, you do tend so submit a lot of things I've never even heard of. That's good :tup
-
i don't know why i'm biding my time with East of the Wall in the other two roulettes
i probably shouldn't even if nobody else is going to send them
-
I am.
I'm actually not. I do like what I've heard from the band, though.
-
Yeah, you do tend so submit a lot of things I've never even heard of. That's good :tup
For reals? In my roulette he's been sending some of the most famous DTF shit, can we switch roulettes?
-
reminder: this is my second time in flying's roulette, i burned through the popular stuff i wanted to send last time :lol
-
reminder: this is my second time in flying's roulette, i burned through the popular stuff i wanted to send last time :lol
I'm trying to go a different route myself as well. I'll slip some more mainstream in when I can.
-
i leave for three days and the thread completely dies rip
-
If you're going to be that impatient, get out of the damn roulette.
-
i'm not trying to be impatient, sorry
-
I just already said it's an extremely busy time of the year, I didn't want to postpone my roulette like others have a done, I wanted to go ahead and work on it despite the end of a very important semester coming up. I started listening to the songs this morning and can have results in tomorrow night. I'm trying my best.
-
i meant it more as a "wow i'm surprised nobody posted in three days" than a "wow i'm mad bizkit didn't post results yet" kind of way but i can see how it could come off as the latter
-
Well I apologize for receiving it that way. Haha. I know what you mean now.

Round 3 Results:
Scorpion - "A Tap Dancer's Dilemma" - Diablo Swing Orchestra
Alright, I've yet to really get into this band. I dig their style, as it's very unique, but it just never seems to rub me the right way. I've had another song sent to me from them,"Voodoo Mon Amour", and I didn't think much of that one either. This one, I definitely like better, but I just don't ever feel like I want to listen to them. I'm always down to give them more chances and if you have any other songs from them that you think I should hear, by all means, send them my way, I'm all ears!
7/10
Shadow Ninja 2.0 - "Vessel" - While Heaven Wept
Once again, not a bad song, but not something I want to really listen to. I hate to use the word cheesy, because I don't like calling music cheesy that other people like, but I'm not very fond of the vocals. The instrumentation is pretty good, but there's not much pleasure this song has to offer me. I do like the intro quite a bit, but I do think the song is a bit lengthy and overstays its welcome.
7/10
kingshmegland - "God Rocket (Into the Heart of Las Vegas)" - I Mother Earth
Interesting entry here, a bit different from what you've usually sent me. The intro was pretty cool and it took a different turn than expected. The vocals here are okay, nothing great to my ears, but certainly not bad. I think what I enjoy most about this song is the drumming, as they have a loud, powerful presence that doesn't go over the top and distract from everything else. The atmosphere of this song overall is cool, but it doesn't hit me in a big way. It's just, "a cool song", but not much more.
7.5/10
Train of Naught - "Unholy" - Slash, ft. Myles Kennedy & The Conspirators
Okay, well, I don't like Guns N' Roses, but you know why? Not because of Slash, but Axl, fuck him. I've always admired Slash as a guitar player, despite what anyone says. Now, the best part of the song, Myles Kennedy. I'm a big fan of this guy, he's got a piercing, powerful voice, and this song is a good display of that. I like Alter Bridge quite a bit, and this sounds like something they would release, so I'm certainly not complaining. I'll be honest though, I completely forgot Slash was even in this song when I first listened to it. I expected a bit more of him in this song, but considering the vocals make this song, that's not a bad thing. This is a good song, for sure.
8/10
Sacul - "Back When You Were Beautiful" - No-Man
One of the many Steven Wilson side projects, and one of the few that I have not checked out. I'm not quite sure how I feel about Tim Bowness. I do think he is a good vocalist, but I just don't think it fits in the context of this song, personally. His other song you sent me, "Sing to Me", I REALLY enjoyed his vocals, and that song was amazing. This song puts out a nice vibe, as it's certainly pretty. Though I probably would have liked it more if it had been instrumental. I'm not taking anything away from him, but the vocals in this one didn't really click with me like the other song did. I guess I'm just gonna have to keep checking this stuff out to see if I really like it. The music, on the other hand, is simply fantastic. Beautiful, and the last minute and a half or so is wonderful.
8/10
splent - "Star of Wonder" - Tori Amos
Okay, I actually wasn't really expecting to like this as much as I do. She's quite an amazing vocalist, and I really, really like the mood of this song. I understand why you've been in a mood for this, I completely understand. I've heard her name tossed around several times before, and this is the only thing I've ever heard. I do like what I'm hearing, even if this isn't really an original song. I'm definitely going to be looking into more of her work, nice surprise for sure.
8.5/10
Parama - "Cotard" - The Hirsch Effekt
This song took a bit to grow, as on first listen, I had no idea what was going on. Consider me sold on the vocals, as I think they are excellent. There are parts of this song I really love, but some not so much. Some of the really chaotic parts are interesting, but not appealing to my ears. Luckily, those sections aren't really lengthy, and most of this song has a good sense of melody to it. I really think this song would have been better if the middle had been cut :P The outro is very awesome, too. So yeah, all in all, the vocals, and melodic parts are the areas of this song I really enjoy. The chaotic parts, not so much, but that is outweighed by the good.
9/10
senecadawg2 - "Brothers in Arms" - Dire Straits
The only Dire Straits song I knew before this was "Walk of Life", and this is completely different. Unlike the former, this one is just a laid back, atmospheric story. I do very much enjoy the lyrics, they are beautiful. I love the simple guitar work, the soft conservative drumming, and the vocals. I can definitely see why you like this song so much. I hear fantastic things about this album as whole too, and clearly, there's gotta be a good deal of diversity based on what little I've heard. Cool, relaxing, gorgeous song.
9.5/10
Elite - "Taro" - Alt-J
What a different path you've taken this time, and yeah, it definitely worked. This song is just extremely gorgeous. I'm not even sure what the lyrics mean, at all. The delivery of the vocals is more significant, though. The chorus melody is so unique and memorable, I haven't heard something like this before. For some strange reason, it reminds me of like a more up-beat Sigur Ros, but I could be completely off because I don't know what their other stuff sounds like. Everything in this song works, and all put together, it's just a beautiful creation. Definitely not what I expected you to send me, but I am extremely pleased.
9.5/10
Tom Bombadil - "Dirt" - Phish
Wow, I love this! This one is my favorite of the round, and possibly the entire roulette thus far. Phish is one of those bands that I've listened to very, very little of. All I knew is that they were a very cool jam band from Vermont. Sometimes, I forget Vermont exists :P. But seriously, this song has it all. The beautiful melodies, the smooth and inspiring guitar work, paced, present drumming, a good vibe, and some amazing vocals and lyrics. There's not a better feeling than discovering a song, loving the song, and then getting that feeling of extreme excitement of listening to more of what they have to offer. I've been listening to a lot of them lately, and I thank you very much for that. Such a simple, straight-forward, gem.

okay yeah 100% sure you don't like crazy intense metal stuff now and really glad I didn't send the other song, haha :lol
and Brothers in Arms def. deserves the score.
I need to check out more Phish, I've heard like a song or two and they're really interesting so
also check out Lucy Fears the Morning Star by DSO, if you don't like that one then you can be pretty sure you don't like DSO in general
Tapdancer and Voodoo are pretty similar songs so that could be part of the problem there :lol
-
Well, we have a new leader, yet the top 4 looks to be an extremely tight race with others not far behind.
Standings after Round 3:
1. senecadawg2 (28.5 Points)
2. Sacul (28 Points)
3. Elite (27.5 Points)
3. Tom Bombadil (27.5 Points)
5. kingshmegland (25 Points)
6. Train of Naught (24.5 Points)
6. splent (24.5 Points)
8. Parama (24 Points)
9. Scorpion (23 Points)
10. Shadow Ninja 2.0 (21 Points)

I mean, I don't dislike it really, I just would rather have it out if possible. The craziest I can get metal wise is BTBAM, and even their self titled album is too chaotic for me.
-
with BTBAM i've never even heard their debut, couldn't finish Silent Circus, and Alaska's alright but doesn't get many listens from me
on the flipside they seem to be devolving further into proggy nonsense with each album and i can't get too into their most recent two albums either, soooo
but yeah i'm finding i'm not a big mathcore fan but The Hirsch Effekt do it pretty damn well without ever going overboard like i guess their closest comparison of The Dillinger Escape Plan
seneca has averaged a 9.5 across all three rounds thus far which is crazy, haha :lol

I hate doing this, but I'm pretty sure my total score doesn't add up to 26.
Firuge It Out: 7,5
Architect of Fortune: 9
The Unholy: 8
Yeah that's 24,5 points, I'm gonna hate myself for doing this.
Anyway I'm glad you liked the singer of a band you already liked
-
Rats! I thought you'd like the atmosphere and the lyrics more. OK. Back to the drawing board.
-
Tori's stuff is VERY different from album to album. The two or three albums released before her holiday album (which was released in 2009) were different than the two or three albums released before that. She's always experimenting and trying new stuff, while also maintaining the core of her music with that piano songwriter mentality.
My favorite albums of hers are her first two, but if you don't care for Tori after hearing one album, check out another one, because it will sound completely different.

Wow, my math is just off. Thanks for correcting it, maybe you'll get a couple honesty points when it is all said and done..
Also, sometime today, I'll add a list of the bands sent during the roulette just for easy reference when deciding on an artist.
In addition to that, at the very end, I might add a .5 value to songs that I think deserve a higher score when it's all said and done. I obviously won't take any points away so there will be no loss of points, only a gain. I fixed the standings too.
-
I'll never get the love for Brothers In Arms. Don't get me wrong I love Dire Straits, but it doesn't pop out like some of their other songs do IMO.
I might consider doing a +.5 for songs I've come to appreciate more too, seems like I already regret some of my choices, scoring is hard.
-
I'd have trouble sending anything by Tori Amos that wasn't from Little Earthquakes, but I've not heard that particular song.
As for Brothers in Arms, if you don't like it then I don't know what to tell you. You're not broken or anything- your opinion is just as good as mine- but we're never going to find any middle ground on this one. I think it's the best thing they've ever done and one of the best things anyone has ever done.
-
I'd have trouble sending anything by Tori Amos that wasn't from Little Earthquakes, but I've not heard that particular song.
It's off Midwinter Graces, her holiday album from a few years ago. It's solid. Lots of return to that sound from the 90s.
I'd send anything from Under the Pink, that album is great too.
-
Cool I'll make sure to check it out. She's one of those artists who I binged on a single album for a few months but felt too intimidated by the size of her discography at the time to delve deeper.

Like I said before, each disc is different. You might find something that you like even better, you might find something for you ask what was she thinking. But it's all Tori, it's all great.

Crazy people and their crazy talk, that's how.

the same way the titled track enters the picture of worst song on 6DOIT
except These Walls isn't even close to being the worst on 8VM yeah it's actually really good

Can we please stop the 8VM talk and start worrying about Parama dying in real life due to delayed results? (and he's still commenting, what a guy)

Well I did send a song in Parama's roulette that I didn't really care for but I thought would fit the theme better than any of my own music, and it ended up getting the highest score out of anything I've sent :lol

Parama Old Skin - Ólafur Arnalds
This is alright. Its got some nice melodies to it the vocals are very fitting with the music, but it just doesnt really grab me in anyway. I look at it as kind of boring, but maybe it works better in the context of the album? Definitely not a bad track, but I dont see myself coming back to this much at all.
7.5/10
Splent Sing a Song Earth, Wind & Fire
I like the R&B, soul, and jazz style of music, I just dont listen to it that much. The music here is nice and the vocals are fun too. My mother listens to a lot of music in this style, so I feel like Ive probably heard this before, but its very enjoyable and does a good job of putting you into a nice, uplifting mood.

Shadow Ninja 2.0 Kiss With a Spell Angels & Airwaves
Another band Ive heard a lot of good things about but never got around to giving them much of a listen. All I know is that Tom DeLonge from Blink182 is the vocalist here, and I love Blink182, so thats good. His vocals are of course, a lot more tame in this song compared to Blinks, but I dont know if the same could be said for the other A&A songs. This is good though.
8.5/10
Sacul Roads Portishead
Of course Ive heard Glory Box, which is nice, but not like a favorite or anything. This song is more enjoyable in my opinion. Her vocals are great, and the music is even better. Its very, very chill, relaxing music, and perfect for rainy days like it has been here the past few days.
8.5/10
Scorpion Nothijngrad Novembre
Im not sure why, but this song gives me a weird Agalloch/Anathema fusion vibe. Maybe just the beginning, idk. The atmosphere and mood of this song is really appealing to me, maybe its the guitar tones or the production, but something about it is just really nice. The vocals, both clean and harsh, are very nice. The outro is very cool, too.
8.5/10
Elite Sacrifice The Expendables
The Expendables was an okay movie, a bit of a run-of-the-mill action film with big named actors, but I have not seen the sequels. That being said, Ive never heard of the band The Expendables, and based on this song, its a lot different than most of the progressive metal you usually send, but youve actually been sending a big variety in this roulette. I guess this would classify as reggae rock? If so, thats cool. I definitely havent listened to much in this genre, so its cool hearing something new to my ears like this. The vocals oddly fit the music, at least thats how it is to me. I like this.
8.5/10
Train of Naught Misguided Distorted Harmony
You said Id probably like this because I like Dream Theater and Im on a Dream Theater forum where I was sent a Circus Maximus song by you, in which I liked, therefore, its kinda like Haken, and then theres this. So. Yeah. Its a good song, I guess you were right, but no bonus points for you. Great guitar tone on this song, and it really makes me wish DT would get their shit together and improve their instrument sounds, because DT12 had horrible guitar tones IMO. Anyway, back to this song. I love the soloing around 5:52, the bassline is pretty sick. The vocals are great, the drumming, the guitars, everything really. This band is tight, and packs a good lunch. I mean punch.
9/10
Tom Bombadil Hometown Twenty One Pilots
This is a good song. I only knew Heavydirtysoul until now, and this is a better song. I like them both though. Is the rest of this album good like this? Or is it filler with only a few gems? I need to check the rest of it out for sure. I like the vocals on this song and the electronic elements. Doesnt feel over the top or anything and its just really catchy and enjoyable.
9/10
Senecadawg2 Song to the Siren Tim Buckley
Cool that you sent this considering Elite sent me Jeff earlier in the roulette. This song is really, really good, and I actually have a hard time choosing what I like better between Jeff and Tim based on the songs Ive heard from each. I guess both are great for different moods. Theres nothing catchy about this song, and nothing flashy. There doesnt have to be, its just a guitar and his voice, and its great. I imagine Tim is one of those musicians where the studio versions of songs dont do him justice, so thanks for this live version. I like this a lot.
9.5/10
Kingshmegland Past Gravity Echolyn
The other Echolyn song you sent me last roulette was awesome, so I was looking forward to hearing this. And
this sounds nothing like their other song, but this is great! ! This isnt quite as upbeat as The End is Beautiful, and I like it better. Its a beautiful song and I love the vocals. I'm not really sure what it is about this song that I like so much, maybe it's just everything. The soft atmosphere this song executes is just great, and I really admire the outro, as there are gorgeous melodies throughout the song. I guess I should really just go ahead and check them out, right? The two songs you've sent me have been excellent. :tup

Double check your scores to make sure I added correctly. :)
And send Round 5 songs
-
my total score should be correct
and aahh i see oh well :lol
it's an album that's pretty alright but Old Skin is the best track and I love it, but i can understand it being a bit boring for you
-
Yes, my score is correct, awesome! I had very high hopes when sending this initially but they dropped after Tom 6,5'd that same song :lol glad you liked it though.
Sending when I feel like it.
-
Woot! I love the diversity with Echolyn. Alright, I'll send a song on the 26th!
-
You can't send a song now? Dude, it's the holidays, not like you have anything going on..?
-
Um, I'm at work! :lol
Wait. >:(
Get out of work and it's visiting family tonight and all day tomorrow. Saturday it will be!

:tup
-
I'd like to listen to a few songs while driving to narrow it down but I know the wife will cry and want Christmas music. :lol
-
Maybe send a Christmas song. Chances are I might rate it about 3
-
Cool. Yeah you should check out the rest of the album, it's all pretty good, although I prefer their previous work "Vessels"
-
I forget, have you mentioned anything about your opinion on electronic influences in music/elcetronic music before? I'm feeling CRAYZEY :hat
-
Maybe send a Christmas song. Chances are I might rate it about 3
Not that I'd send one but I bet I could get an 8 with a few songs. Jars Of Clay has a fantastic Christmas album that is so unique.
-
that Sacrifice song was in guitar hero at one point I think, haha
-
I forget, have you mentioned anything about your opinion on electronic influences in music/elcetronic music before? I'm feeling CRAYZEY :hat
I mean I don't listen to much of it but that doesn't mean I don't like it. I'm just not familiar with a lot of it.
Cool. Yeah you should check out the rest of the album, it's all pretty good, although I prefer their previous work "Vessels"
Noted.

It seems like some of y'all might be overthinking your submissions. As if you have a chance of winning this thing :lol
-
i've had my entire submission list pretty much planned from the getgo
and i already have a victory so i'm fine tyvm

that Sacrifice song was in guitar hero at one point I think, haha
I think you might be right. The album the song is on is actually really good and a lot of fun to listen to.
-
i remembered playing it so i looked it up, it was free DLC for one of the games :lol
-
Open round right? Feeling festive. Sending the same song across the board.
-
Just need 3 more entries. Hope the holidays went well for everyone.
Now. Back to business. :hat
And hopefully at a quicker pace, on my end.
-
Sweet. I'm dying to read your thoughts on my song sent.
-
don't worry man, I can confirm that my song was the best. Just apply ten points to my score, plz.
This is a pretty good strategy to fix the pace problems, worked in my sixth round pretty smoothly :neverusethis:
-
So, what's going on? The holiday season is over and it is my hope (and desire) that you can pick up the pace now. You were going a bit slow before December aswell so consider this a friendly kick in the butt to get it moving.
-
I just received my last entry last night so I was not able to do anything until then. Meh, I'll just end the roulette if it becomes a problem, which it already seems to be doing.

No you don't. Crack that whip

Scent in advance.
Double corn for double results anticipation :corn :corn
-
A few write-ups left, so expect results in a half hour. I received the last entry last night so hey, I can complete and post results for a round in just half a day, so why don't we just do that and finish quickly so I'm not holding up the others. And yes I'm giving the songs at least 4 listens.

Round 5 Results:
Scorpion – “Death of a King” – Amorphis
Well, the introduction to this song certainly kicks ass. I’m a bit iffy on the harsh vocals, but they aren’t bad. Luckily, this song is dominated more-so by the clean vocals, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The instrumentation of this song is excellent, and really creates a dark and evil mood.
8/10
splent – “Twelve Days of Christmas” - Béla Fleck and the Flecktones
Well, if my pacing hadn’t been so shitty, this could have been done by Christmas, and I would have been in more of a mood for this. However, I’m not basing it on that. This song is nice. I don’t generally listen to much Christmas music, but I find this much more enjoyable from a musician’s perspective. It’s got times of relaxation, and cool up-tempo passages. Just sayin’, if I’m gonna be listening to Christmas music, it’s going be the kind like this.
8/10
Tom Bombadil – “There Is” – Boxcar Racer
I thought this was Blink182 when it came on the playlist, then I realized it wasn’t. But that’s okay because Tom and Travis are included and I love Blink182. Tom’s vocals have always been a hit for me, and Travis’ drumming keeps all the songs really fresh. I was actually expecting this song to pick-up a bit as the the whole thing felt like a build up. Great stuff, though.
8.5/10
Shadow Ninja 2.0 – “Findlay” – Landon Tewers
Definitely an interesting entry, the whispered vocals, well, I wasn’t too fond of them at first, but they grew on me. This song is really filled with emotions of pain and agony and you don’t even have to know the lyrics to realize that, just the tone of his voice. The music is very nice too, has somewhat of a majestic feel to it.
8.5/10
Sacul – “Crowded Corridors” – Iamthemorning
This is unusual, with the electric guitar playing in the middle of peaceful (harp?) melodies and soft vocals. I like it though. Whoever this is has a really wonderful and calm voice, and while the music stays pretty busy, it just works. The piano work is certainly impressive and appealing, moments of brightness and darkness invade this song. It’s very dynamic and I enjoy it.
8.5/10
Train of Naught – “Witchcraft” – Pendulum
The only song I know from this album is “The Fountain” and that’s just because of Steven Wilson. I did very much like that song and I had intended to go back to this album and check it out. I’m not the biggest fan of electronic music, but I do enjoy this quite a bit. The vocals are nice and there are some really nice and memorable melodies here.
9/10
Senecadawg2 – “Society” – Eddie Vedder
I’ve always enjoyed Eddie as a vocalist for Pearl Jam, as they are one of my favorite ‘90s efforts, but I’ve never really heard his solo stuff. I know of this movie and his performance on the soundtrack, but I never got around to listening to it. This song is very relaxing and would work well as an instrumental but the inclusion of his vocals makes it even better.
9/10
Elite – “Marigold” – Caligula’s Horse
This song feels Opeth-esque to begin, especially with the guitar tone and atmosphere and all. I really like this one a lot, I’ve heard City Has No Empathy, and the vocalist is fantastic on both tracks. I guess I could describe this band as a fusion of Haken and Opeth. Obviously, that’s a compliment to the band and that’s a cool mix from my perspective.
9/10
Kingshmegland – “Star You Are” – Dada
You were right. This song has beauty and darkness in one. I assume it’s about someone stalking someone else, and that’s just downright creepy. It’s pretty funny though because the music would make it seem like a love song. This is the beauty of songwriting, musically and lyrically. They don’t always really have to go hand in hand and be parallel. Sometimes switching things up can really bring great results, like this. I don’t have any complaints with this song, it’s beautifully haunting.
9/10
Parama – “The Unlikely Event of a Water Landing” – Intronaut
I saw them live with Between the Buried and Me, but considering I knew nothing about this band and my ears were about to burst, I can’t say it was very enjoyable. That’s not their fault though, but rather the venue and my lack of knowledge of the band. Here’s my first official listen of them since that night in 2013. I really dig the music, the vocals are actually kind of up my alley. Harsh vocals tend to be a weird thing for me, they either really work, or they really don’t. There are only two bands with harsh vocals I listen to, and that’s Opeth and Between the Buried and Me. I can’t describe to you why I prefer those and not others, but I do really like Intronaut’s based on this song. The music is wonderful, I love the ending, as I really tend to love mellow moments in metal music. From what I’ve read though, this isn’t as heavy as previous outings, correct? Either way, I like this and it can probably be a good start for me getting into the band.
9.5/10
Standings after Round 5:
1. senecadawg2 (47 Points)
2. Sacul (45 Points)
2. Tom Bombadil (45 Points)
2. Elite (45 Points)
5. kingshmegland (43.5)
6. Train of Naught (42.5)
7. Parama (41 Points)
8. splent (40.5 Points)
9. Scorpion (39.5 Points)
10. Shadow Ninja 2.0 (38 Points)
Considering the low range of this round, there's not a lot of changes. Seneca extends his lead, Elite joins the battle with Tom and Sacul. Parama and splent switch spots. Good round, guys. Everyone should have received a P.M. saying that you can send songs as soon as you want. I'm doing my best to finish the remaining rounds in just a couple weeks at most. Thanks.
-
At this point I'm just happy you liked the Pendulum song, even though it doesn't really give me much of an advantage. Maybe you're ready for the song on this album with the In Flames guest vocals, it's pretty badass.
The song is called Self vs. Self
-
Very true on the Dada song. It's almost like a stalker's love song to the person. This band plays many styles. That's from their album El Subliminoso which is a top 5 album for me of all time. I think you may like the varying styles of that album.

Was it Elite? :neverusethis:

Surprisingly not this time :lol

In those cases, I'd start listening with, say, 80% or more of the songs. So whoever sends last will be affected more with its song having less spins :P

I like that idea. 'd give me an advantage.

OK i'll send Saturday tho I was gonna send you the same thing I just sent train so he can send it to you I really don't care about confidentiality anyways lol

I'd feel weird sending 'someone else's' music in a roulette. Maybe if that person is not participatong in tje roulette and I really really like that song, but I'll probably stick to the music I either own or have discovered myself.
-
Eddie Vedder does a happy FlyingBIZKIT make
I've sent my next round.
-
I mean I give you permission to send my entry for me bcuz it'll be 2 more days before I can send and you have the song link and i'my on my phone :lol
-
Now it just seems like you actually want me to send your songs, not gonna happen. I'll stick to my own weird style that seems to work fine for now.
EDIT: I might've cockblocked ya, though I've never seen you send this artist. I know you like them so maybe you wanted to send them at some point.
-
that is not what I mean at all
-
Maybe with this I should say that I've already sent BIZKIT his round 6 song yesterday, so this whole discussion was pointless. I may or may not have been too drunk to realize that.
-
I am trying to get you to send my entry in for me, not send in one of my songs as your entry :P
-
Tangentially: I love those moments when two people are communicating and there's a moment in which they're clearly misunderstanding each other but only you (the generic you) know it. It's kind of a weird sensation when it happens to me--inflates my ego or something along those lines.

It's 2 o'clock in the afternoon and I still don't have a single idea of what Parama is blabbering about.
-
What is a Parama?
-
I sent in this roulette and all others :tup
-
How can the song you sent in my roulette be sent in this roulette, that's not possible right?
-
it can be if you believe hard enough
-
I sent this one, right? Yes I think so...
-
Been listening to all the songs, liking what I'm hearing. Late afternoon classes this semester so most likely results tomorrow morning.
I'll send a PM but y'all can go ahead and send me songs for next round so the transition is quicker and smoother.

Round 6 Results:
Parama Dying in A-Minor The Angelic Process
Opposite of Comforting Sounds? Damn dude, you trying to depress me? :P This is dark, like darker than the darkest dark. Too dark for me, personally. I love dark stuff, but not like depressingly blackest black dark. Ya know? I feel like I cant breathe when listening to this, its MAKING ME ANXIOUS. 2 drk.
5/10
Kingshmegland Fall Lo-Fi Resistance
This song, from the start, already has a very nice melancholic atmosphere to it. Looking into this band, I see Colin and Gavin from PT play in this album? Thats pretty great. Its funny, because theres this little bass hit Gavin does on a lot of PT songs and I heard it in this and it reminded me of him. Little did I know it actually was him! Hah. I dont know the vocalist, of course I never know anything you send me, and thats always great. Hes good and this song as a whole is really, melodically great. Chorus is awesome.
8.5/10
Elite I Am The Highway Audioslave
If Im not mistaken, this is pretty much Rage Against the Machine, minus Zack as vocalist, plus Chris Cornell of Soundgarden? Rage Against the Soundgarden? I only know two of their songs.. Be Yourself and Like a Stone. I remember liking them, but I can honestly say Ive never really been THE biggest fan of Cornells vocals. I do admire Soundgarden from what I heard, but I dont listen to them often. I actually much prefer Zack de la Rocha (and Rage Against the Machine is one of my favorite bands), even if Chris is probably better at what he does. Anyway, this song is good. Im a big Tom Morello fan anyway, even though hes quite tame on this song. Which is completely cool, because it fits the tone of the song. Overall, its a good track, Cornell does a very good job, but hes still not one of my favorites.
8.5/10
Train of Naught Skies Protest The Hero
I listened to this band like 2 years ago, and I wasnt a big fan at the time. I kinda forgot about them honestly but I threw them in the mix of bands with the likes of Periphery and Tesseract (who knows if that even makes sense) that I just could not get into, as I either found them boring, or vocally uninteresting. This song, though, is good. Not sure if Ive just acquired a taste, or simply found the right song, but Im willing to give them another shot based on this. The album art is pretty badass too. This is definitely one of those bands Id have to be in a certain mood to listen to, with all the fast paced, well, everything. I like the vocals a lot in this song, and this band can really shred. They have a high level of technicality, but theyre doing a good job of making it sound really good, and not artificial and boring as hell.
8.5/10
senecadawg2 A Song for Molly Michaelson Thrice
I have to say, you sure have a soft spot for the soft, mellow, emotional tracks. This is no exception. This is actually really good, and Ive never really listened to Thrice, but my roommate kind of enjoys them, from what hes heard. This is good. Dont they have heavier stuff too? Im just making sure its the right band Im talking about. This is nice though, my favorite aspect of it is the vocals, he is really good, and this song has some quite gorgeous melodies.
9/10
splent Song For America Kansas
Ah.. Kansas. Of course, this is one of the classic progressive rock bands Ive always wanted to explore, but Ive been very lazy with music exploration, so that hasnt happened. I know a couple of their songs, and their biggest hit, obviously, which I love, but I know theres probably so much good stuff in their discography. All I can say is Im not sure who Kansas biggest influences are, but I can definitely hear where Transatlantic got some of theirs from. I love the overture, and once it all kicks in, it really, really gets good. This song is so uplifting and just awesome. Definitely going to be checking out more of them. Got any other recs?
9.5/10
Sacul Teardrop Massive Attack
I know this song, but its okay, because I didnt really recognize the title and I hadnt listened to it in ages. Of course, I first heard it from the show, House, M.D., and Ive listened to it a lot when Im driving around with my sister, because she likes Massive Attack. Im assuming this may be their most popular song? Well, its certainly great. I love the haunting piano melody, and the vocals are wonderful. This song is really dark, but makes me feel pretty good, honestly. I have no complaints here.
9.5/10
Shadow Ninja 2.0 Moonsetter Homestuck, Vol. 9
I have no idea what to call this song, but hopefully whats above ^^^^ is right. Isnt this a comic? I had no idea there was a score for it, but this is cool. Reminds me of some good old videogame music, peaceful, and ambitious. The strings are so happy and the piano reminds me of a nice puppy arriving to a new, warm cottage where there is a nice fire and hot chocolate being served to the guests. But why does it have to be so short? This is definitely the most odd entry Ive received in the roulette, but thats what I love about you Shadow, you just send whatever you want, whether or not it really is like other songs or not. Props to you sir, for being you.
10/10
Scorpion Snowfall God Is An Astronaut
Post-rock, something I can find extremely beautiful, or extremely formulaic and tedious. But which is it? Well, the former, of course. This song is great. It does a good job of starting out smooth and giving you the chance to breathe, then it builds and hits. Simplicity done right, basically. Some post-rock genuinely bores me, and it goes nowhere, but this one elevates itself into such a great, orgasmic climax. Ive got to listen to more of them.
10/10
Tom Bombadil In The Kitchen Umphreys McGee
Im not even sure what this band really is, King sent me a song from them last roulette, I think called Mantis, and it felt proggy, but melodic and having that jam kind of feel to it. This doesnt come off as very progressive to me, but kind of a tame jam style, which sounds great. On both songs, I loved the vocals, and this might actually be my favorite of the two. This song for some reason reminds me a bit of Phish, just less extreme on the instrumental side. Great song, I love it.
10/10
Standings after Round 6:
1. senecadawg2 (56 Points)
2. Tom Bombadil (55 Points)
3. Sacul (54.5 Points)
4. Elite (53.5 Points)
5. kingshmegland (52 Points)
6. Train of Naught (51 Points)
7. splent (50 Points)
8. Scorpion (49.5 Points)
9. Shadow Ninja 2.0 (48 Points)
10. Parama (46.5 Points)
Parama dropped dramatically while Tom jumped to 2nd, and Shadow and Scorpion much improved their scores and caught back up. Seneca remains 1. Will he be caught?

i didn't really expect better but yeah :lol
technically Moonsetter is by Toby Fox, also
and anyways i'll catch up a little with my round 7 song
maybe
i'm not playing to win this roulette anyways, so :lol
oh yeah and skies is the best PtH song
-
Spence great tune!!!
Umphreys McGee is all over the place musically. Live they are a jam band that is progressive but it don't stop them from doing a 4 minute catchy pop tune. Very much like Phish. Good catch!
-
oh yeah and skies is the best PtH song
NO, don't listen to him, you're doing the right thing at giving them another shot! Volition is the best album to start with, it's musically very very chaotic in the beginning but it will all make sense.
I hope you won't torture any more souls with Angelic Process in the future Parama.
Also, sent some juicy instrumental prog metal.
-
i'm not saying that as a means to dissuade him from checking out more PtH because he totally should, they're great
i'm just commenting
-
Teardrop is excellent :tup
-
You're right that Thrice is typically heavier. This song is definitely an oddball
-
i didn't comment on that did i, yeah
thrice's older stuff is pretty heavy. heck, fire is really heavy. their last few albums weren't so heavy though.
i prefer vhiessu and beggars to the alchemy index in general, regardless

I got the same song in my roulette, this song is physical proof that no matter how excited you are, this will be the second thing in life where you won't last the full 8 minutes.
-
it'd give it a solid 9.5 at least, myself, but not many people like doom/drone metal so
-
Dunno if checking it out of curiosity or waiting for Parama to send it in my roulette :P
-
it's one of the albums on your list, so you better not
-
ok send it on next round so i can score it 1/5 :P

will do, boss

Parama's song just depresses the hell out of me, I'm sorry :lol

Indeed. I'd highly recommend it, to all of y'all you haven't already checked it out

I have sent.
Also please recommend a good introductory album to Thrice, I've heard good things about them and I figured I might take the plunge.

The vocals are the best part of the song, so u fail :loser:
That's debatable. The "Screw you, fuck you" part kind of makes me cringe though.
-
Maybe, but it's not an album to be taken seriously in the end :P
On the other hand, if that makes you cringe and not Blackfield's Go to Hell, then your argument is invalid :lol
-
I don't listen to Go to Hell for the lyrics.
-
Nor Love Song I guess ;)

Round 7 Results:
Elite Recreation Day Evergrey
Okay, the music is awesome, especially the guitar, but the vocals just dont do it for me. Progressive metal vocals, in most cases, dont sit well with me. I try to figure out why, but I just dont really like them. Probably a big reason why I dont enjoy Pain of Salvation at all either. I prefer the instrumentation much more, as the solos are great, and the middle of the song is definitely my favorite moment. Just for this, Ill still give it a 7.5
7.5/10
Scorpion Wars End Grayceon
This is very relaxing, as I was expecting something to hit me in the face solely based off the album art. Kind of a haunting song, the melodies in my opinion arent really all too beautiful, but a bit unsettling. The vocals are the same way, but it somehow feels beautiful, if that makes any sense. I guess this is good to listen to on a sad, sad day. Which I have not been sad. Nonetheless its a nice and unique song.
8/10
splent Odyssey Scale the Summit
You sent me another song from them early in the roulette, Stolas, I believe. I like this one a lot better actually. It feels more melodic to me, and the solos are really nice. Still, this isnt a band I can see myself really listening to a lot. Its nice and has great musicianship, but other than that, I dont find it having a ton of replay value. However, it is a wonderfully crafted song.
8/10
Train of Naught Gift of Tongues/Maxims Pomegranate Tiger
I do believe I listened to this album once when it was released, I just dont remember anything except it was a lot more enjoyable than Animals as Leaders. Listening to this again, yes, I was correct. Its AAL with a lot MORE flavor. The musicianship is tight, and the intro is great for setting up Maxims, so good call on adding that. The bass section after 3 minutes is badass, and this song gets better and better as it goes. Good choice.
8.5/10
Sacul Vigilante Zardonic
This is definitely a cool track, and it sounds like something Id hear in a cool action movie or video game. Like Ive said once, I dont generally listen to much music of this style, but I definitely dont dislike it and its very fun and energizing to listen to, which is great for certain moods. The vocals are cool too, adding that extra flavor to the already pumping track. The breakdown in the middle of the song is quite awesome, really. Maybe if I listen to more stuff like this, Ill develop more of a taste. Still, nice.
8.5/10
kingshmegland Hydra (Live in Poland) Toto
Who the hell is Toto?! Just kidding, this is actually a group Ive heard of, but still never listened to. I know theyre famous for Africa, but I couldnt begin to tell you how that song goes. I just get the feeling Toto is a band thats probably a lot better live than in studio? I havent checked out the studio version of this song yet, but they sound really tight and bring a lot of energy in this live scenario. I like this, its rockin.
8.5/10
Shadow Ninja 2.0 The Riots Gone Santigold
Ive never heard of this, and this is quite great. The music is nice but her vocals are even better. Shes got a great voice, and there are some awesome moments here. The chorus is very memorable and has been stuck in my head for a while now. Thanks for this.
9.5/10
Parama Forget Not Ne Obliviscaris
What a cool song. The inclusion of the violin is definitely my favorite part. Ive always loved violins and have always reminded me of the old west, which is badass. This song gets better when it starts picking up and taking a faster pace. Its got such an epic feel to it, like Im about to have a duel with the most deadly outlaw in Texas. I prefer the first half of the song to the second, but the latter is still quite nice. The vocals are mostly enjoyable, but the cleans are the only weak spot of this track if I really had to choose.
9.5/10
Tom Bombadil Sound and Vision David Bowie
It is quite a shame that Bowie has left us, as he made such a big impact in the music world. His influence is undeniable, but still I can say I havent discovered much of his music. This song is just really good, and Im not just saying that because of his recent death. It really puts me in a good mood and if a lot of this music is in this vein, Im genuinely excited to discover more. Great stuff. Its too short :/
10/10
senecadawg2 Steep Hills of Vicodin Tears A Winged Victory for the Sullen
Jesus, dude, youre just hitting the mark every round. Hope I didnt jinx you for the future rounds, but youre just sending all the right stuff. This is just remarkably peaceful, theres so much space and breathing room when listening to this, and thats great. Its raining too, and that makes for an awesome experience. Everyone else roll your eyes again for another Seneca 10.

Standings after Round 7:
1. senecadawg2 (66 Points)
2. Tom Bombadil (65 Points)
3. Sacul (63 Points)
4. Elite (61 Points)
5. kingshmegland (60.5 Points)
6. Train of Naught (59.5 Points)
7. splent (58 Points)
8. Scorpion (57.5 Points)
8. Shadow Ninja 2.0 (57.5 Points)
10. Parama (56 Points)
The only change is Shadow Ninja moved up to 8th, tied with Scorpion. Keep it up Shadow.
Seneca remains on a roll but Thomas Bomber is right behind him. The others are still in the chase. 3 more rounds!
-
Yea I never liked AAL much either, I'm alright with an 8.5 for the best instrumental progressive band ever though. I definitely like the newest album more though, but sending just one song from that album wouldn't cut it.
I still have that Riot's Gone chorus stuck in my head from when Shadow sent me that song lol, but I didn't like it as much as you did.
Seneca slow it down?

Re-sending in a bit, I actually want to think more about this one, I feel like doing something else than prog metal for a change. The song was Spoonman btw Parama, I'll just send it to every roulette host until someone accepts it (that'll take ages).

Round 8 Results:
Scorpion – “The Heart Collector” – Nevermore
Yeah, I’m not fond of the vocals, and that’s honestly nothing new with progressive metal, as that’s what usually turns me off to it. I really enjoyed Bombadil’s track, probably because it was instrumental. I wish I could get into this song, but it’s just not sliding in the right brain grooves. Musically, it is pretty cool. Very nice solo, but that’s all I feel it has going for it. Sorry bro.
7.5/10
Parama – “Entrust” – Exivious
This song starts out great, and the drumming is super impressive, but I feel it doesn’t go anywhere, and it drags. It has a great sound to it, but I think it should be about 2 minutes shorter. Reminds me a bit of Animals as Leaders, which isn’t bad, but they’re not the most exciting band IMO. Cool song but I bet there’s better.
8/10
Splent – “6 Underground – Nellee Hooper Mix” – Sneaker Pimps
Not something I’d imagine you’d send, but hey, this is good. Vocalist is good and I love the industrial-electronic aspects. UH 1-2 UH 1-2. That guy, good stuff. Not much I can say here except that I think it’s a cool song with kind of a mysterious vibe to it. Good for a midnight drive.
8.5/10
senecadawg2 – “Retrograde” – James Blake
Every time I think of James Blake, I think of that old washed up tennis player. I’ve never listened to James Blake, the musician, though. He’s very talented vocally, extremely talented, actually. I think this is a good performance but I almost feel there’s something missing. Really good song, but I just get this feeling he’s got something better than this. Maybe it’s the melodies. While they are nice, they aren’t so memorable today. I do really like this though.
8.5/10
Tom Bombadil – “Triumph of Irreality” – Beyond the Bridge
Awesome stuff. Another album I’ve heard good things about. Progressive metal, definitely a genre I’m on the fence about. I only like a select few of what I’ve heard, but this falls into that category, so good job. I can hear some DT influence, but they do a good job of not blatantly ripping them off. In fact, I wish DT would write something nice like this, it’s been too long.
9/10
Train of Naught – “From The Ritz to the Rubble” – Arctic Monkeys
I’ve admittedly and shamefully never listened to Arctic Monkeys, but based on this song, I love their sound. The vocalist is awesome, and this is certainly a fun listen. Great production, loose playing, it’s what you should have for this alternative/indie style. Gonna check more of them out.
9/10
Shadow Ninja 2.0 – “Change In Time” – Sleep Party People
Nice tune, and you’re just hitting a good stride in this roulette since the past few rounds. This song is extremely relaxing and dreamy. I also really dig the album art. Gorgeous song, and it really has a positive mood to it, and I really appreciate the vocals. Keep up the good work Mr. Ninja.
9.5/10
Sacul – “april.#19” – KASHIWA Daisuke
Well from the start it’s a very gorgeous track, the soft, delicate piano, to the lovely atmospheric textures, this song has a lot going for it. It remains at a constant, but refreshing pace throughout, adding some cool electronic pieces later in the song. Not to mention, the music video is very cool too. Great stuff!
9.5/10
Elite – “Wake Up” – Arcade Fire
The beginning of this song sounds very familiar, maybe I’ve heard it before. I hear this band’s name being talked about, and I’ve been wanting to check them out, so good call sending them. This song is really good. I love the melodies, instrumentally and vocally. Come to think of it, I listened to a little of them, I think it was a song from “Her”. I like when it speeds up, this song is awesome. Very pretty.
9.5/10
Kingshmegland – “Trick of the Trade” – Magic Pie
While progressive metal isn’t something I’m big on, I’m much more open to progressive rock. This is no exception, very good stuff. Reminds me a little of Transatlantic, and you can’t go wrong there. The vocals really make this song. The guitar playing is excellent too, awesome riffs. There’s a lot of energy in this song and I can imagine they are very good live. The chorus is extremely catchy, I love it.
10/10
Standings After Round 8:
1. senecadawg2 (74.5 Points)
2. Tom Bombadil (74 Points)
3. Sacul (72.5 Points)
4. Elite (70.5 Points)
4. kingshmegland (70.5 Points)
6. Train of Naught (68.5 Points)
7. Shadow Ninja (67 Points)
8. splent (66.5 Points)
9. Scorpion (65 Points)
10. Parama (64 Points)
2 Rounds remain and the finish is still unclear. Tom closes in on Seneca, only now being half a point behind. Sacul still has a good shot as well, let's see what he can do. Elite and King are slugging it out, Train remains in the middle, and Shadow is moving up the standings just like that. Splent and Scorpion try to avoid being like the laughing stock, Parama. :tup
Parama, how do you go from 1st in my previous roulette to last? :lol
Oh and Seneca has had the lead since Round 3. Talk about dominance.
-
Hell yeah, that Daisuke song is absolutely gorgeous :heart

i don't have my roulette text file with me on this computer but i remember the last few things i wanted to send you regardless, so :lol

Is it bad that I have no idea what Wawa is?
Cheese-steaks are amazing though.
Wawa is like Sheetz or 7/11, but a million times better. It's not like the greatest food ever, but it's the most convenient of all convenient stores. And they have one like every 5 blocks up here.

Woot!!
I'll be seeing Magic Pie at RoSfest this year for the first time!

Glad you like my song. Little mad you didn't like it more, but my score wasn't that bad. Always seems like my score is good, but everybody else's scores are better :lol
I don't normally listen to music like that, but in the mid to late 90s this song was a minor hit hey I really enjoyed it. I noticed that you liked massive attack, and so I thought OK I'll send some trip hop.
I'll send my next submission there today. I honestly have no idea what I'm going to send yet
-
Baby Back Ribs.

You're missing out Seneca. :corn

I'd feel sorry for seneca if he loses by 1.5 point or less to Tom because Retrogade is worth 10 points
Seneca has won like the last 20 roulettes and you would feel sorry if he came in 2nd just this once?
-
Maybe what I'm trying to say is I'd feel sorry for the song, moreso than seneca himself. Yea for all I care the dude could stop playing in roulettes for a year, he'd still be #1
-
It's all rigged. He paid me to put him at #1.
-
Paid you more then me?!?! How dare him
-
So I should sent baby back ribs to move up in the standings. :lol
-
You're missing out Seneca. :corn
What even is a baby back?
-
Ribs. Though I was hoping this,
https://youtu.be/kY84MRnxVzo
-
That song is a 10/10, easy.
And I know that they're ribs. I just wasn't sure where the ribs're coming from and why it's called 'baby back'.
-
So do I get 6.6 bonus points for sending 'Baby Come Back'? Beautiful, beautiful song.
-
Sent!

Does Seneca's distaste for ribs override is bribe?
-
Does Seneca's distaste for ribs override is bribe?
I'm not sure. He doesn't like meat very much.. ::)
By the way if there were to be a tie, let's just say, HYPOTHETICALLY, then I would have to come up with a tie-breaker.
Also, I thought about in the future, like down the road, running a movie roulette. Like, have no more than 5 contestants, not a ton of rounds, and it's just based on movies rather than music. You think a song roulette takes me long enough? :lol
-
Yeah, it would be really hard to come up with the time to do that, but it would definitely be fun.
I finally sent, by the way.
-
Sweet. And yeah maybe that's good for a little summer project.
-
All songs are in, listening has begun. Results by Friday for sure.

It's not just your phone

I feel like I'm playing Space Invaders

maybe the first one represents confusion and the two 0'sides are because everyone got 0/10 and that's why we're confused

what is a parama

1 more writeup. Don't know if I told you this , Amarap, but I've been listening to a lot of the new Intronaut album and I love it.
-
awesome, I'd definitely say it's my favorite of theirs, they really refined their sound well
-
When listening to Fast Worms, I get this Mastodon meets Between the Buried and Me vibe.

Round 9 Results:
Train of Naught – “Manager’s Wish” – A.C.T.
Noooo. :/ Well, that’s what I thought when it started. I don’t like that, whatever he’s doing. But overall, this song has some cool moments. Cheesy, yes, but cheesy isn’t always bad. It’s just.. okay in this case. I don’t mind the quirkiness in this case, but it just doesn’t hit me in the right way unfortunately. The 2nd half gets better but it’s still not enough to really make me call it a great song. Not awful, but the serious song might have been a better choice?
6.5/10
Tom Bombadil – “The Wheel” – Jerry Garcia
This is a nice one. The only problem is, nothing really stands out to me. It’s a well-made song that gives off a nice vibe, but it doesn’t really stick out in any kind of awesome way. Perhaps a different song would work better. Not that I dislike this, but it’s a bit bland in a sense. I wish I liked it as much as you.
7.5/10
Kingshmegland – “Iconic” – Sieges Even
This one took me a few listens to really start appreciating it. There’s some really nice melodies that stuck with me, specifically the vocals. It’s a nice song, but I’m still feeling there’s more to be desired. I’ll keep listening to more of them and see what I find. A lot of the songs you send me have this similar sound to them. I guess that's just the prog rock nature. Sometimes it's either really awesome, or just really okay.
7.5/10
Shadow Ninja 2.0 – “Walk Away” – Sarah Fimm
Not the only female vocalist of the round, but I do prefer the other one, but that’s just because the other one is REALLY good. I still like this and it has a pretty atmosphere to it, and her voice is quite nice. Relaxing music, relaxing voice, relaxing time. It’s good but not the most memorable.
8/10
Parama – “The Line Between” – Baroness
I’ve seen this album art in a few places, can’t remember where though. I thought it was probably some weird extreme metal stuff but apparently I was wrong. It’s kind of weird, this doesn’t sound entirely original, but at the same time, I can’t really figure out who this would sound like. It’s a nice rocking song and the vocals aren’t bad. I really actually like the production, it’s got a nice sound to it. This actually caught me off guard too, I was expecting something completely different.
8/10
Splent – “Fooling Yourself (The Angry Young Man)” – Styx
I’ve never really listened to Styx, despite their immense popularity. Quite honestly, I couldn’t have even described to you what they sounded like. This is the only Styx song I know, by name at least. This chippy tune is a good listen, and I really like all the synth parts. They have a good sound and I’d definitely like to hear more. Vocals are nice too.
8.5/10
Elite – “South of the Border” – Beardfish
Ok, then. The lyrics are just silly, but a good silly. It’s quite funny actually. Luckily, the music is great too. Has some nice rocking riffs and some quirky ass shit going on. Overall it’s just a really funny song, with all the weird noises, lyrics, and whatnot. Definitely odd, but hey, it works!
9/10
Scorpion – “Seventh Wonder” – Angel Maker
I’m hoping this time the score won’t make you say “God Fucking Dammit”, but we’ll see. Okay, well, the vocals….are a hit! Couldn’t tell you why but they don’t make me cringe, so that’s good. I like a lot of what this song has to offer, the musicianship, the vocal melodies are sweet, and even though the song seems to be all over the place at times, I really think it works. I love the soloing in the second half of the song, great playing and drumming.
9/10
Sacul – “Survive” – Chelsea Wolfe
One word: Haunting. This is darkness at its finest. The music itself is already scary enough, but with the addition of her wonderfully delivered vocals, it somehow makes it beautiful. It’s actually kind of badass, too. The album title fits well with the song too, as it makes me feel like I’m swamped in some abyss. Surreal stuff, brah. The climax at the end is quite nice. Gotta hear more from her.
10/10
Senecadawg2 – “Re: Stacks:” – Bon Iver
Fuck, again? Shit. This is all rigged, or you just keep sending the right stuff. I absolutely adore this. The soothing acoustic rhythm along with his soft, high vocals just makes for an outstanding song. There’s nothing really dramatic about this song, just a guitar and his voice. Less is more? In this case, absolutely.. Hey bro, you got another one.
10/10
Standings After Round 9:
1. Senecadawg2 (84.5 Points)
2. Sacul (82.5 Points)
3. Tom Bombadil (81.5 Points)
4. Elite (79.5 Points)
5. kingshmegland (78 Points)
6. Shadow Ninja 2.0 (75 Points)
6. splent (75 Points)
6. Train of Naught (75 Points)
9. Scorpion (74 Points)
10. Parama (72 Points)
Well, Tom the Bomb takes a hit with an average round while Seneca rolls on. However, Sacul still has a good shot, only if Seneca decides to screw up one round. What's gonna happen?
A) Will Seneca choke and allow Sacul to steal a victory?
B) Will Seneca have at least a 9 and seal the deal?
C) Will Shadow score a 10 while everyone else scores a 0 and win in the most amazing comeback in the history of rouletting?
SEND IN THE FINAL SONG
-
I need to get more into that Chelsea Wolfe album, probably just buy it sometime
also South of the Border has only gotten worse in hindsight even though I haven't listened to it since my roulette ended :lol but I guess that's just me

FINAL ROUND RESULTS:
Elite – “Mammal Sauce” – Crochduster
Abysmal. 4 points for effort. But it was a pain to listen to, and that’s OK. I think that’s the point but I have to give it what it truly deserves.
4/10
Kingshmegland – “Earth Bound” – Rocket Scientists
I’m not really big on this one, honestly. I found myself kinda bored sitting through it, unfortunately. The vocals aren’t very enjoyable, to me. I like the synth sections, and the keys are what make the song, but everything else isn’t too interesting. I wish I liked this like you did.
6/10
Splent – “The Fifth Wheel” – Worlds
So your dad does the vocals? That’s pretty badass! This really isn’t my kind of music, but I like it for what it is. The vocals are pretty good, and the music is nice. It’s not something I can see myself listening to a lot of, but it was a fun listen. There’s sort of an epic feel to this.
7.5/10
Shadow Ninja 2.0 – “Shatter Me (Ft. Lzzy Hale) – Lindsey Stirling
Cool mix of strings and electronics. It’s a pretty cool tune. Catchy melodies and nice vocals, this song has a lot to offer. I’ve said before I’m not really huge on electronic stuff. It’s nothing I don’t care to hear, it’s just it’s not usually one of my usual choices. I like getting stuff like this in roulettes cause it’s usually out of my comfort zone.
8/10
Tom Bombadil – “Can-Utility and the Coastliners” – Genesis
Genesis is another classic band I’ve been wanting to check out, especially this album and a few others. I like what I hear, though. This is probably a grower, though. I can definitely see what you like about it, but it doesn’t hit me near the way you do. I definitely enjoy their sound though, and I can see myself really liking them when I check them out more.
8.5/10
Train of Naught – “Set Fire to the Hive” – Karnivool
I was sent another song from this album last roulette, and I like this one a lot better. I believe it was “The Caudal Lure”. Though this one is much more enjoyable for me. Great drumming and musicianship, and a truly rocking song. I’m a big fan of the vocals. First time listening to this band was just, meh, nothing special, but after hearing this, I’m really wanting to hear more, If it’s anything in this vein.
8.5/10
Scorpion – “The Garden of Fire” – Wilderun
This is kick-ass. The guitar playing is awesome, and the vocals are pretty good. The harsh ones are actually pretty nice as well, they kind of have that monotonous feel to them that I seem to enjoy so much (BTBAM). I don’t really know what else to say is that it’s really fun and the intro is really badass. Makes me feel like I’m riding a 3 legged horse into the winds of time. Fuckin’ ballin’.
9/10
Sacul – “The Octuple Personality and Eleven Crows 8 and a bunch of stuff I don’t know what it means” – World’s End Girlfriend
Like I said before, this song is extremely beautiful, but considering electronic based stuff isn’t really one of my big interests, it feels sort of like a distraction at times. I know that’s the intention to have this unsettling incorporation of these noises, but I just kinda wish they weren’t there, or at least a little lower. I like when they play more of a backseat role to the beautiful piano melodies and such. Very good song, but I think that’s what is keeping it from getting a ten.
9.5/10
Senecadawg2 – “She Remembers” – Max Richter
What is she remembering? Maybe I need to go ahead and watch this after I finish Six Feet Under. I know nothing about this show but the picture of the man smashing his hand in the wall with intense emotion in combination with this song really is beautiful. That’s quite something considering I know nothing at all. You really know the way to my heart with these beautiful scores. There are times when I think it’s my favorite kind of music: Scores for movies/tv, there’s some really beautiful stuff. Good job mate, finishing on top in a DOMINATING fashion.
9.5/10
Parama – “Take Your Time (Coming Home”) – fun.
Love this song, man. I’ve listened to this group before, like the big hits, but man, this is fucking good. I didn’t know they were capable of making something this great. The vocals are definitely interesting, but they really sit well with me. This song just makes me happy listening to it, and I’m hoping they have other stuff this good. Of course I bet this is an unnoticed song from them. His vocals really make the song, and I love the constant buildup throughout the song. You seem to manage to end roulettes extremely well, despite not finishing very high this time, you’ve sent some great stuff.
10/10
FINAL STANDINGS:
1st Place: senecadawg2 (94 Points)
2nd Place: Sacul (92 Points)
3rd Place: Tom Bombadil (90 Points)
4th: kingshmegland (84 Points)
5th: Elite (83.5 Points)
5th: Train of Naught (83.5 Points)
7th: Shadow Ninja 2.0 (83 Points)
7th: Scorpion (83 Points)
9th: splent (82.5 Points)
10th: Parama (82 Points)
I'm actually very surprised Parama finished so low, considering he sent 2 of the best roulette songs. Really the top 3 was in a league of their own, with Seneca winning comfortably. It was an anti-climactic finish, but this whole thing was a blast!
Just for fun, here's the Top 10 songs of the roulette (Ratings for these songs don't really apply, as you might see a 9.5 be higher than a 10 or something like that. This is how I currently feel as I would probably rate certain songs lower or higher than I did initially):
1. Bird of Sorrow - Glen Hansard (senecadawg2)
2. The Unlikely Event of a Water Landing - Intronaut (Parama)
3. Dirt - Phish (Tom Bombadil)
4. EOS - Ulver (Sacul)
5. Take Your Time (Coming Home) - fun. (Parama)
6. Re: Stacks - Bon Iver (senecadawg2)
7. Taro - alt-J (Elite)
8. Survive - Chelsea Wolfe (Sacul)
9. The Caterpillar and The Barbed Wire - Riverside (kingshmegland)
10. Where We Start - David Gilmour (Sacul)
-
:lol
-
That.fun song is really good yea, no 10 material for me but really good.
SFTTH is pretty different from the other stuff on the album so wouldnt count on it.
Awesome, managed to come in tied for top half, without any of the top 10 songs, consistency is the name of the game :hat
Annnnd thanks for posting results literally the second I log in to check :lol thanks for running the roulette, you've gotten a lot of good music!
Oh and obviously I will check out Rich's song.
-
The band's name is 'Crotchduster' if you were to look it up :lol
-
Congrats to seneca for another win, and for being the first person to achieve 10 roulette wins. :o
-
Of the songs of theirs I've heard, Dirt is one of the best "straight", ie non-jammed out Phish songs.
And re: Stacks is one of my favourite songs altogether.
-
At least I beat Parama :lol
-
Feels like this roulette started a long time ago!!
Glad you enjoyed my shit, Luke!
Hope the pizza rocked!
Love you all!!
-
Yay second place again :metal
-
BIZKIT, fear not, fun.'s entire first album is pretty great :tup
it's the second album that kinda sucks and is where all their hits are from
-
Gassed out in the end.
Thanks for letting me play again!!!!
-
BIZKIT, fear not, fun.'s entire first album is pretty great :tup
it's the second album that kinda sucks and is where all their hits are from
Great to hear this! I'm looking forward to checking it out.
And thanks to everyone for participating, it was a lot of fun. Sorry it took so long, but it's done now so that's all that matters. :lol
-
Yes. The only thing that matters is that it's finished now.
-
Yeah I definitely enjoyed this. Thanks for hosting!
-
Yay! You like something that I sent! :P
You should definitely check out the album, it's a late discovery of 2015 of mine, but it's definitely one of my favourites from last year. Top-notch all the way through.
-
i was curious about the song elite sent in the last wrong so i listened to it and omg why did you send this
-
Because there was no way I could win anyway, so I sent something to mess him up :lol
